This Sichuan cuisine restaurant is a favorite of Takafumi Horie, also known as HorieMon. Recently, he has been active in rocket business and as a YouTuber. The restaurant has a counter on the first floor, and if you have a party of two or more, you will be seated on the second or third floor. I ordered the boiled beef set with beer. The boiled beef dish is a popular dish in Sichuan cuisine, similar to mapo tofu and shredded pork with green peppers. The dish was spicy and numbing, but delicious. The beef was tender and flavorful, with vegetables such as cabbage, onions, and bean sprouts. It was a satisfying meal, and I plan to come back to try the mapo tofu and fried rice set next time.

The reason is that the opening of the stores scheduled to open this month seems to be delayed. So, I couldn't do any new exploration, so today I went to "Kawanaikan" that I passed by the other day. It was lunchtime and people were coming in one after another, but the capacity of the store allowed them to flow in smoothly. I sat at the counter on the first floor, and ordered the "water-boiled fish set" for 1,100 yen (tax included). I chose the large rice portion as it was free of charge. There was a lot of white fish in the dish, but I wonder what kind of fish it is. In the original dish, they use bass, but I wish I had asked. I continued eating while feeling the spicy and delicious taste. It was already spicy, but apparently the beef is even spicier. The chopsticks were about 1.5 times longer than usual, but surprisingly, I didn't feel uncomfortable using them (laughs). City Chinese food is good, but sometimes it's nice to taste authentic flavors like this.

Daily sweet and sour pork set meal for 1,000 yen! Comes with salad and soup! They usually only have canned beef set meals here, but it's nice to have something different once in a while. The sweet and sour pork isn't too sweet or too sour, just the right flavor! Even on days when you don't have much of an appetite (it's too hot!), you can still enjoy it. Grateful...

The inside of the restaurant was spacious vertically, and it had an atmosphere filled with the energy of local Chinese people. The dishes, seasoning, and alcohol all seemed to be made with a focus on local ingredients, giving it a special feel. The Mapo Eggplant was exquisite, and we ordered so much that we couldn't finish it all, so we'll have to come back for a rematch.

Hello, this is SapiO. Today I would like to introduce "Sensai Kan", a restaurant located near Shin-Ochanomizu Station. This restaurant is popular for serving authentic Sichuan cuisine at a reasonable price. Although not well-known on review sites like Tabelog, it has a decent rating of 3.55 stars. When I visited on a Saturday afternoon, there was only one other customer. The menu offers dishes such as authentic Dan Dan noodles set for 1000 yen, Mapo tofu noodles set for 1000 yen, and Sichuan-style beef noodles set for 1100 yen. They also have enticing sets like Mapo tofu fried rice. The soup has a strong soy sauce flavor with a thick and spicy Mapo sauce that packs a punch with its chili oil and Sichuan peppercorns. The noodles are chewy and go well with the rich soup. Despite the inevitable spiciness, the aroma and taste are delightful. The portion size is generous, and the set comes with salad and soup, making it a satisfying meal. I would love to try their authentic Dan Dan noodles next time. Thank you for the meal.

I entered the restaurant around 12:30 on a weekday, but it was full so I had to wait for a while. After a few minutes, I was seated at a shared table on the second floor. I ordered the usual mapo tofu set (1,000 yen), which was as delicious as always. Many people around me ordered the beef in chili oil, which seems to be a popular choice. I have never tried it myself as it seems to be a very spicy dish.

Located behind the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance headquarters building, this Chinese restaurant opens for lunch at 11:30 am, attracting a steady stream of office workers. The first floor has a counter for solo diners, while the second floor has tables for groups of two or more. The lunch menu includes about five rice dishes and noodle options each day, along with a daily special and non-spicy choices. The Mapo Tofu is prepared fresh and served in about a minute. It is not overwhelmingly spicy, but rather focuses on creating a numbing sensation. The minced beef adds a delicious flavor to the dish. The restaurant is known for its quick service, consistent taste, and relatively wide menu selection, making it a convenient choice for solo diners. It is undoubtedly a welcome option for office workers in the area.

I came to eat the mapo tofu set for 1000 yen today because the fried rice I had last time lacked punch. The mapo tofu in the fried rice set I had last time was not spicy, so I decided to order it again. This time it was spicy. I ended up getting a second serving of rice with the mapo tofu, making it a mapo tofu bowl. I was sweating, but it was a good lunch. When you want to eat something spicy, I recommend this mapo tofu set.

I visited this restaurant during the day, and since I had a good impression last time, I decided to try it again. I ordered the "drooling chicken", Shanghai fried noodles, and a lemon sour. The drooling chicken was delicious with a good amount of oil. It has a strong spiciness and numbness, so it might be tough for those who don't like spicy food, but it was exactly to my taste. The Shanghai fried noodles also had eggs in it, making it different from others I've tried, but it was still delicious. When I visited, all the customers except for me seemed to be Chinese, but the seasoning was really good.

Today's lunch was a set menu of mapo tofu and fried rice for 1100 yen, with salad and soup included. You can also get a free upgrade to a large portion of fried rice. The fried rice was quite simple. I felt like the mapo tofu didn't have the same punch as last time. Maybe I should have just ordered the mapo tofu on its own.

I felt like eating something spicy, so I decided to try Sichuan cuisine. The menu was surprisingly limited, but I ordered the authentic mapo tofu and mini tantanmen. You can choose to have the tantanmen with or without soup, and I chose without. The mapo tofu arrived first, and it was quite spicy. Then the tantanmen arrived, and it was milder compared to the mapo tofu. The mapo tofu was too spicy to eat on its own, so I added a rice bowl for 250 yen. The mapo tofu bowl was delicious. I will definitely come back when I crave for that spiciness and numbing sensation again. The lunch menu also looks promising.

[First Visit on March 18, 2023] From the B3b exit of the new Ochanomizu Station, turn right and walk along Surugadai Kando towards Jinbocho. At the first crossroads, turn left onto Ochanomizu Nakadori and continue until you see the shop on your left. It was a Saturday, and the shop was my destination for lunch on this rainy day. I arrived a few minutes before 1 pm, and there were only two customers inside the restaurant. However, I later found out that larger groups were seated on the second floor, while the counter seats were on the first floor. I decided to order the daily special, Mapo Eggplant, which caught my eye on the whiteboard outside. The soup arrived promptly, followed by rice and the Mapo Eggplant in about 5 minutes. The Mapo Eggplant was oily and had a good level of spiciness and numbing sensation typical of Sichuan cuisine. Compared to another Sichuan restaurant I frequent, the spiciness was slightly milder here. The quality of the sauce and the way the Sichuan peppercorns were incorporated were excellent, though. I found it irresistible how the spiciness and numbing sensation built up as I ate. I didn't want to waste any of the sauce, so I even topped the remaining rice on the Mapo Eggplant plate and finished it all. The portion of eggplant was generous and satisfying. The soup was a bit salty, and the rice wasn't as well-cooked as the other Sichuan restaurant I mentioned. Overall, I prefer the other restaurant, but the fact that this place is cheaper for lunch is a plus. Although it's probably best to evaluate this place for dinner, I can also recommend it for lunch. Thank you for the meal.

Visited Ochanomizu Kaitaku for lunch around 1:00 PM. Was able to sit at the counter without waiting. The use of Sichuan pepper was a bit too strong for my liking, but here it was just right. The spiciness was at the perfect level where it was still delicious. It falls within the category of deliciously spicy. (But it is quite spicy)

This kind of local-style Sichuan restaurant is quite common in Shinbashi, with famous ones like Shikibobou, but this place has become a popular spot, so I made a reservation and visited. It's expected that the spicy Sichuan dishes are delicious, but surprisingly, dishes like stir-fried greens with edamame, dried tofu, and shredded potatoes stir-fry are also strangely delicious even though they're not spicy. Plus, the bill is extremely reasonable. Can't complain. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

On this day, I was in the mood for Chinese food, so I visited this restaurant from the 2021 Top 100 list. It was 2:00 pm, and there were 4 customers already seated on the 1st floor. I chose to sit at the empty counter seats. I decided to order the authentic Dan Dan noodles set (1,000 yen) with soup. After placing my order, I was served salad and soup right away. The salad with sesame dressing was delicious. I waited for my noodles to arrive while enjoying the salad. My noodles were served just 5 minutes after ordering. I tried the soup first, and it had a nice flavor with a mild spiciness. The noodles were cooked perfectly to my liking, with a great texture. The soup coated the noodles well. The egg topping had a subtle flavor. The egg drop soup was gentle in taste and balanced out the spiciness of the Dan Dan noodles. The portion size was moderate, and I realized later that I could have gotten a free large serving of noodles, which I missed out on. After finishing the mildly spicy Dan Dan noodles, I took a sip of lukewarm tea to relax. The customer next to me was struggling while eating the Mapo Tofu, which must have been quite spicy. I paid the bill using PayPay. The food was tasty, but considering it was from the Top 100 list, my expectations were high, and it didn't quite meet them. Also, it would have been nice if they provided paper aprons or something like that. I didn't see any, and no one asked me about it either.

I visited this place for the first time for a quick lunch. The counter was almost full, so I didn't have much time to decide. I wanted to try the beef noodles or the boiled beef, but I didn't have time and didn't feel like eating something spicy. I was also curious about the fried rice, but I decided to go with the dan dan noodles. It was the top menu item, although it mentioned "dan dan noodles (without soup)" on the lunch menu for 2023 (laughs). I prefer it without soup, so I went with that. The salad, soup, and delicious dan dan noodles arrived quickly! There were nuts scattered throughout the dish. The spiciness was not too strong, and the noodles were of medium thickness. It may not have been as fancy as the trendy dan dan noodle specialty shops, but it was simple and delicious. I still wish I had tried the beef noodles. I'm also curious about coming back for dinner sometime.

When it comes to Sichuan cuisine, Ikebukuro is a staple in my book, but while browsing through Tabelog, I came across this restaurant featured in 'Tokyo's Top 100 Chinese Restaurants'. The location of the restaurant is close to Shin-Ochanomizu Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line, with other Metro stations and JR lines nearby, making it very convenient for transportation. When I arrived around noon on a weekend, the restaurant was about half full.
- Egg Soup: The egg soup seemed like it was made in bulk and was just average.
- Mapo Tofu: Quite spicy but lacking in the fragrant spices, the flavor was relatively flat.
- Fried Rice: I ordered the large serving which was free, and it was full of volume and deliciously fragrant.
- Salad: The portion was not very big, but it was perfect as a palate cleanser with sesame dressing.
The restaurant seems to be a long-established place frequented by regulars, so I believe it is loved by the locals.

I had Ma Po noodles for lunch at this shop before, and I remember struggling because it was extremely spicy. Today, I visited at 12:30 on Friday with the aim of having slightly less spicy Tantan noodles. The restaurant was about 70% full, and I sat at the counter. I ordered the soup Tantan noodles for 900 yen, and soon after, a salad and soup set was served, followed by the Tantan noodles about 5 minutes later. The Tantan noodles were delicious and had a tolerable level of spiciness, unlike the Ma Po noodles. I think it's a good deal for 900 yen. Next time, I'll try the soup-less version.

A Chinese restaurant near Shin-Ochanomizu, known as one of the top 100 Chinese restaurants. Visited during lunchtime, slightly crowded but got seated quickly. I was tempted by the lunch set of Mapo Tofu and Fried Rice, even though my favorite dish, Water-Boiled Beef, was also on the menu. I ordered the Mapo Tofu + Fried Rice set for 1000 yen. It came with a sesame dressing salad and Chinese soup. The Mapo Tofu had a strong flavor of doubanjiang (chili bean paste), slightly salty but not overwhelmingly so, with no numbing sensation or intense spiciness. The Fried Rice had a simple yet delicious combination of carrots, eggs, and rice, with a slightly salty taste and a nice crispy texture from the coated rice grains. The set was quite filling, and I didn't feel hungry even by nighttime.

I ordered the famous tantanmen lunch at the popular Chinese restaurant "Kawasai-kan" in Ochanomizu. The soup lacked richness and flavor, and personally, I found it to be mediocre. The tantanmen was quite light in flavor. Since the restaurant has a good reputation, I plan to try a different menu next time.
