Sushi restaurant "Sushimaru" in Shinjuku Sanchome. It's located across from Otsuka Furniture. You can enjoy cost-effective sushi here. The lunch is available until 4 pm and very convenient. Despite the reasonable prices, they serve sushi in a counter-style where it is made in front of you. They have a selection of carefully selected fresh fish such as Kanaji and Kansaba. The atmosphere is also nice (popular among foreign tourists). It is part of the same group as "Onyasai" and "Hakarime" in Ginza. The "Tengo Nigiri" costs 1,430 yen (includes soup). You can choose between hot or cold tea, which is a nice touch. Tengo means 1.5 servings, and you can also request changes in the toppings or rice amount. The set includes salmon, tamagoyaki, shrimp, squid, octopus, white fish (flounder), 2 pieces of tuna, daily specials (anago, crab battleship), seared bonito, tekka maki, and kappa maki. It's a generous portion with great freshness. The rice is soft and fluffy, with a good amount of vinegar. The tuna has a nice melt-in-your-mouth texture, while the anago is pleasantly tender. The squid has a good balance of tenderness and chewiness. At this price, it's definitely worth it! Foreign visitors will also be pleased. Overall, it's a great lunch sushi option. Thank you for the meal!

I visited a restaurant on Shinjuku Meiji Street while walking and the lunch was highly rated, so I decided to try it. I ordered the special lunch menu, Botan Nigiri. I thought there would be more affordable lunch options available, but I couldn't find them. It was around 1:30 pm and there was almost no waiting in line. The sushi chef was friendly and the sushi was delicious. It's a great restaurant.

I stopped by this restaurant on my way back from Isetan because I wanted to have lunch. It was past 2pm so it wasn't full, with two groups of foreign tourists already there. There was a staff member who was fluent in English and provided a detailed explanation. I sat at the counter and ordered the Tekka-don, which was quite satisfying. I noticed a sign on the wall saying "Takesaki Kohada," which I later found out was from Takesaki Port in Saga. Since Saga's Kohada is often praised by sushi chefs, I decided to order it and it was delicious. There was also a menu item for Kohada and shiso roll, so I ended up ordering that too. My stomach was full but I was satisfied with the meal.

I visited during lunchtime on Saturday. There were 3 people in line ahead of me, and I had to wait for 2-3 more people even after entering. However, I was seated in about 15 minutes. There were many foreign customers, and the waiters were speaking in English. The chair I sat on was wet, and the soy sauce dispenser was dirty, which was a bit disappointing. Nevertheless, the sushi was delicious as the chef crafted each piece with care. My companion had a cost-effective rice bowl, and the miso soup had a rich fish flavor that I enjoyed.

This area tends to be expensive, but getting a lunch portion for under 1500 yen with soup included is very reasonable and satisfying! The prices tend to go up at night, but lunch might be a good deal. The recommended dish at this restaurant is the squid bowl. It is described as being marinated in liver, so if you like squid, it might be worth trying.

I used it for a friend's birthday. The sushi and other a la carte dishes were all delicious. There were also many dishes like salt-grilled fish from the pot that went well with alcohol, so the drinks went down smoothly. We went with four people and were satisfied with the amount of food and drink, and it was less than 25,000 yen, so it was a good cost performance at a proper sushi restaurant. I would like to repeat it again.

Located in the middle between Shinjuku Station and Sanchome, Sushimaru has been a long-standing sushi restaurant. Although I have known about its existence since my student days, this was my first visit. I arrived at noon on a weekday and found some empty seats inside the restaurant. I had to wait for about 10 minutes at the hot entrance before being seated. The place seemed to attract many foreign visitors, as various languages could be heard inside. I ordered the Tengo (1.5 servings of nigiri) for 1,430 yen, which also came with 11 pieces of sushi rolls. The surprisingly low prices for this location reflect the efforts of the restaurant. The chefs seemed to be enjoying themselves, creating a light and fun atmosphere. Aside from the taste, the experience of eating sushi at the counter is something worth trying, especially for foreign and younger visitors. Overall, it was a great experience. Thank you for the meal.

A sushi restaurant in Shinjuku that always has a long line. Their lunch is super cheap and available until 4 pm. The service is very polite and they also have English menus, so it's very popular among foreign tourists ✨ Half of the counter was filled with foreigners. Today, I had the chirashi bowl which had shining fresh ingredients like mushrooms, kanpyo, and denbu. The miso soup served as a service was delicious. I enjoyed the melt-in-your-mouth sushi and finished it quickly. Thank you for the meal. Next time, I'll come for nigiri sushi ✨

In front of the Otsuka Furniture showroom in Shinjuku Sanchome, there is a reasonably priced counter sushi restaurant. It gets crowded during lunchtime. I ordered the "Tengo nigiri" (1430 yen). It came with 11 pieces of sushi and 2 rolls. The fish was fresh and delicious. The rice was on the smaller side and the sushi was a bit loosely packed. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

Shinjuku is a popular spot for foreign visitors, so there were many of them at this restaurant. The turnover rate is fast, so even if there's a line, you can usually get in pretty quickly on weekdays. There are several lunch sets available, and I chose the one in the photo. The shrimp was sweet and delicious! The counter seats are close together, so some may find it a bit cramped. The sushi was really tasty, so I would love to go back again if I have the chance! ✴︎

Lunch on June 28, 2023 (Wednesday). I was in Murayama in the morning, and in Shinjuku in the afternoon for work. I had lunch in Shinjuku. I went into this restaurant across from Otsuka Furniture on Shinjuku Central Street. I don't know why, but I felt like trying this place. Even though I had sushi for the past two meals. I arrived at 12:15 and sat at the counter seat at the back of the first floor. Right after I sat down, the first floor became full. I ordered the Lunch Hokkai Don (1100 yen) which was the first item on the lunch menu. It was supposed to have salmon, soy sauce marinated salmon roe, and shredded omelette. It arrived at 12:33, and it looked different from the menu photo. Especially the amount of salmon roe was way less. When I tried it, the salmon was okay, but the quality of the salmon roe was not great. On the other hand, I didn't need this much shredded omelette. I realized right after ordering that I should have ordered nigiri. Many customers were ordering the Tengo Nigiri (1.5 servings) (1430 yen). Nigiri should be more similar to the photo, so I'll order that next time if there is one.

I visited for lunch around 1:30 pm on a weekday. There were two groups of customers at the counter on the first floor. I ordered bara-chirashi from the special menu. The atmosphere was calm and nice. The staff seemed to get along well, and there was conversation between them. Thank you for the meal.

I visited around 2 pm on a regular day. I was torn between getting sushi or a Hokkai don, but ended up deciding that I wanted to eat salmon and ikura. The portion of rice was larger than I expected, while the amount of salmon and ikura was a bit less, so I had some rice left over. However, considering it only cost 1,100 yen, I think it was a good deal! Thank you for the meal!

This restaurant is child-friendly, allows a la carte orders, and is conveniently located. The pricing for alcohol is very reasonable, with a bottle of pure rice sake Daiginjo costing around 1100 yen. It would be perfect if they had counter seating available for customers with children, but unfortunately, that's not the case.

Flyer 1100 yen - great cost performance! At lunch, you can enjoy a reasonably priced seafood bowl! Although the sushi seems to have more effort put into it during lunch, those who want to eat something delicious may be better off ordering sushi rather than a bowl? However, the bowl was also delicious! It's nice that soup comes with it.

The 1100 yen sushi lunch is a good deal in front of Shinjuku Station. The sushi is delicious and priced around 1000 yen. However, dining alone may be awkward as the seating is cramped and some customers drink while eating, causing slow turnover. It may not be the best place to dine alone during lunchtime.

The atmosphere at the counter was very nice. It was convenient that lunch was served until 4pm. The sushi rice was large and the taste was average, but I thought it was good value for 1100 yen considering the portion size. The cucumber roll wrapped in rice was a bit awkward.

I visited a proper sushi restaurant in Shinjuku. I went there on a Saturday afternoon and was relieved that I could get in without waiting in line. The entrance was small, but the whole building seemed to belong to this sushi restaurant, so it looked spacious. I ordered the Botan nigiri set for 2,750 yen. It came with 7 pieces of sushi and 3 rolls. It included Toro, white fish, sea urchin, salmon roe, sweet shrimp, and egg omelette. The daily special was bonito, maybe katsuo. The colors and presentation of the sushi were beautiful, and the thick Toro was delicious. The rolls had the rice on the outside, which is called "uramaki." The miso soup had seaweed in it. The warm tea we had together was surprisingly good. The large teacup had a nice feel to it, which might have enhanced the taste of the tea. The restaurant is located near the south exit of Shinjuku, an area with a lot of activity and foreign visitors. It's a good quality sushi restaurant that both locals and tourists can enjoy. It's convenient to have a sushi restaurant in a bustling area with reasonable prices. They also offer various seafood bowls on their lunch menu, which would be great for when you're craving fish.

Thick slices of salmon with ikura in the middle were delicious. Before entering the restaurant, there was disinfection. The counter was clean and the chef was friendly. Even if you usually go to conveyor belt sushi restaurants, it's worth visiting this kind of sushi restaurant. I would like to come back for lunch.

I made a same-day reservation by phone and visited the restaurant. It seemed popular among foreign tourists. It is conveniently located near the station and offers delicious sushi, dishes, and drinks at reasonable prices. It was my first visit this time, but I would like to go again. Next time, I want to sit at the counter.

I was seated at the counter with the chef right in front of me. I ordered the Tengo nigiri, which the chef skillfully prepared in front of me. It was a great deal at under 1500 yen for 1.5 servings. While it may not be mind-blowingly delicious, the quality and quantity for the price was surprising. Thank you for the meal.
