I knew what I wanted, so I ordered the hotcake and tea set. The news was playing on the TV in the background, and time seemed to pass slowly. I thought to myself, "This is Nakano for you." As I was feeling nostalgic, sugar, maple syrup, and cutlery arrived at my table. Soon after, the hotcakes and tea were brought to me. I was surprised by the size of the tea cup, which was like a soup bowl, filled with warm tea, along with two hotcakes. The hotcakes were a bit cold but still delicious. I plan to go back again sometime.

It's about a 10-minute walk from Nakano Station, located on the farthest side of Broadway's 2nd floor. When you enter Broadway with the station behind you, there is an escalator right away. Be careful not to go up to the 3rd floor by mistake. When we visited on a Sunday before 1 pm, there was only one group of customers. It's a small shop with about 4 tables. We ordered the following for 2 people: Dry curry (730 yen), Napolitan (700 yen), Lemon squash (480 yen), Cafe latte (450 yen). The atmosphere of the shop and the taste are nostalgic. The dry curry was delicious with raisins and plenty of ingredients, highly recommended for both volume and taste. The Napolitan was also delicious as expected, but the portion was a bit small. I ordered an American coffee for 400 yen, which seemed to be the standard price for drinks. The retro interior of the shop really gave off a Showa era vibe. Just after I placed my order, unexpectedly, a rush of customers came in. Within 10 minutes, the shop was full. I was lucky to have arrived just in time on a Sunday afternoon. First, a small dish of coffee creamer was brought to me by the shop owner without saying a word. Then, after waiting for about 7-8 minutes, my American coffee arrived. The shop owner brought it to me directly without using a tray, and her hands were shaking a bit, making it a bit precarious (laughs). The coffee was served in a large cup with a wide opening, filled to the brim. It had that diluted taste from the early days of American coffee, which was quite nostalgic. I added some sugar from the sugar pot on the table. Surprisingly, the sugar wasn't clumped together (laughs). I noticed that other customers were enjoying the famous Napolitan or hotcakes since it was lunchtime. The smell of oil from the kitchen filled the shop when they used the frying pan, creating a Showa-era atmosphere. The ambiance, decor, cushions, and even the smell all contributed to the retro feel of the shop. I savored my Showa-style American coffee during my Sunday coffee break and left the shop. They also serve beer, so it's not exactly a traditional Japanese coffee shop. I'll definitely come back again.

I had visited a different Showa-style coffee shop in Broadway before, but it seems that shop has closed down and transformed into a different one. Looking at the menu, the prices were all very reasonable, starting from 400 yen for coffee and most drinks were in the 400 yen range. The food items were also all under 1000 yen. I ordered a cream soda for 480 yen. The couple who ran the shop seemed to be quite elderly. The lady serving in the hall seemed to be struggling a bit. Soon, the cream soda arrived, but there was a pink pickled vegetable in the cup. I did not order any pickles, just the cream soda. I never expected them to serve pink pickled vegetables as a service with the cream soda. The taste was okay considering the price, but the ice portion was small. The interior of the shop was very Showa-era, but the seating comfort was not good. Located inside Nakano Broadway, the shop was constantly crowded with people, but the staff's attitude was not very good, perhaps due to years of fatigue. Honestly, they should probably retire. I don't think I will visit again. It felt like the negative aspects of the Showa era were showing through.

The small shop felt like a back-alley snack bar, with lots of customers inside (｡･о･｡) Thankfully, there was one seat available, so I sat down and ordered an iced coffee for 400 yen. It's been a while since I've seen a shop selling iced coffee for 400 yen♡ This seems like a reasonable price indeed (´∀｀*). This shop also seemed to have a food menu offering old-fashioned cafe meals. After a relaxing break of about an hour, I left the shop. The café was almost full, so I waited about 10 minutes to be seated at a table near the entrance. The clientele seemed to be in their late 20s, with a mix of single men and young couples. The café was filled with purple smoke, and there were posters of Iwasaki Chihiro Museum of Art, a TV playing a rerun of a detective drama starring Nakamura Umehachi, and a copy of Big Comic Original at the entrance. I ordered the Hotcake Set for 650 yen, American style. The hotcakes that arrived were small in size with a dollop of butter on top. I poured maple syrup generously and enjoyed the pancakes with a knife and fork. After eating spicy yakisoba and Sichuan mapo earlier, my mucous membranes were a bit damaged, so this meal was quite comforting. The American coffee came in a cup like a bowl, living up to its name.
