First Visit 202309 (No.4795) 1. Purpose of Visit ・On the day, I was in the Ebisu area to gather material for my blog, focusing on pairing dishes. 2. Shop Information ・Genre on Tabelog: Cafe ・Opened on April 29, 2023 ・A quiet space to enjoy the differences and interesting aspects of various teas and tea liquors from Asian countries, with a focus on Japanese tea, at the "Tea Bar" ・Located on B1F of the Hillside Terrace Building F, next to "The Conran Shop Daikanyama Store" ・Supervised by Sakura Masaya of the Japanese tea specialty store "Sakurai Tea Roasting Research Institute" in Aoyama, Tokyo, but managed separately ・Staff members are regularly instructed by Mr. Sakurai? ・"Sakurai Tea Roasting Research Institute" is a popular store with a Tabelog rating of 3.59 and 138 reviews ⤴ ・Business hours: Weekdays & Saturdays 12:00-23:00, Sundays & holidays 12:00-19:00 ・Irregular holidays (check on Instagram!) ・Seating capacity: 8 seats ・"The Conran Shop Daikanyama Store" is a concept shop focusing on creators and designs from Asia 3. Crowdedness and Atmosphere on the Day ・Visited around 12:10 on a weekday, with 3 customers already present and 1 customer arriving after me ・The slightly dim interior is sophisticated and has a calm atmosphere 4. Customer Service ・Followed the manual but showed very detailed consideration (^_-)-☆ 5. Ordered Items ■ Black Tea and Spice with Sweets (Date Butter) 1,870 yen I was also interested in tea liquors made by soaking tea leaves in whiskey or gin, but I ended up ordering the above item as I wasn't enticed by the selection of side dishes. The black tea is from Okinawa and when I asked the staff about it, they mentioned that it is of a high level that can rival tea leaves harvested from the "Big Three Black Tea" regions of Darjeeling, Uva, and Keemun. Malaysia's milk tea "Teh Tarik" is served here with spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and anise instead of milk, providing a rich and spicy exotic taste! It is brewed using a siphon brewer in a Turkish-style pot-warming method, which is a wonderful performance to watch. You can choose one sweet to accompany the set, and the "Date Butter" I selected was delicious with the natural sweetness of dates, fermented butter, and fragrant roasted walnuts. ■ Additional Sweet (Coconut Yokan) 440 yen As one sweet felt visually lonely, I added the above item. It is a delicious treat with a texture of blended coconut. When I asked the staff, they mentioned that these two items are sourced from "HIGASHIYA," so I was convinced that they must be delicious (bitter smile) 6. Summary Being attached to a concept shop, it is undoubtedly a hidden gem of a place that is not very noticeable (*^^)v With the supervision of Mr. Sakura Masaya, you can enjoy items that you won't find elsewhere, so if you love tea, be sure to visit this place<(_ _)> Thank you for the meal.

Located along the old Yamate-dori street, on the B1F of the building across from Matsunosuke NY, is a Tea Bar supervised by the director of the Japanese tea specialty store "Sakurai Roasting Tea Research Institute," Mr. Sakurai Shinya. This small modern tea room with only 8 seats offers various types of tea: Cha: Green tea, black tea, oolong tea brewed in a teapot Te: Black tea and spiced chai, tea blends Upon arrival, a wooden box with 12 types of tea leaves is presented for you to choose from. It can be quite difficult to decide as they all look tempting. Additionally, the tea sweets are served in a dish for you to select from, adding to the dilemma. On this particular day, I enjoyed Gyokuro with castella cake, as well as black tea and spiced sweets. Watching the process of boiling water, warming the utensils, and brewing the tea is quite soothing. I was surprised by the rich flavor of the first steep of Gyokuro brewed with a small amount of 40-degree water; it tasted like a broth, which I had never experienced before. I learned that a similar taste can be achieved at home with proper brewing techniques. The black tea and spices are boiled in a Turkish coffee pot, a method I had never seen before. The tea sweets were also delicious! The black tea came with pickles, which was a surprising addition that enhanced the flavor of the tea. For the Gyokuro, I was able to enjoy it with ponzu vinegar poured over it, resembling pickles. It was a truly luxurious experience. It is important to spend time leisurely and appreciate the flow of time.

Daikanyama Hillside Terrace is not a place where one would normally visit alone. I discovered this place next to the Conran Gallery after being informed about it when visiting the Conran Shop with a companion. Upon entering the Tea Bar Chokeikyo, I was immediately struck by the elegant atmosphere created by the well-lit interior and the impressive stone counter. The menu offered a unique selection of teas, showcasing a variety of teas and brewing methods that aimed to convey the charm of tea beyond the usual offerings. I opted for the tea and sweets set, choosing a white tea from Mie Prefecture paired with an original hydrangea-themed sweet, and a black tea from Ehime Prefecture with a coconut fruit sheepskin sweet. The teas were served with great care, with each steeping poured into a kyusu from a large ceramic kettle using a wooden ladle. The white tea had a sweet aroma and a refreshing aftertaste, while the black tea surprised me with its unique flavor reminiscent of pickled radish. The owner of this establishment is also the owner of the popular tea shop Sakurai Sencha Kenkyusho in Aoyama, known for his innovative ideas in the world of tea. The shop is still in its early days, with limited operating hours, but they are planning to focus on their bar service in the evenings, offering intriguing concoctions such as gyokuro tea gin and hojicha rum.
