I was searching the internet for cheesecake and ended up with a reason to go to Akihabara, so I visited Catel for the first time. I got a Basque cheesecake (580 yen) to go. It was very delicious. It's a rich and heavy type of cheesecake, which I really enjoyed. It's one of the top 3 best tastes I've had recently. The most popular item was a chestnut Mont Blanc. Although it's not a cheesecake specialty store, they have a variety of cakes, and the cheesecake here is of a very high standard. It was worth the visit.

I went to a shop on the first floor of the station building in front of Akihabara Station for the first time. This floor was quite crowded on weekday evenings. On that day, I bought a Financier for 230 yen. It was a delicious classic Financier with a hint of sweetness and a nutty accent.

I saw a few people lined up and couldn't help but join them. I bought a chestnut Mont Blanc for ¥700 and a Shine Muscat shortcake for ¥600. Both were very sweet. The Mont Blanc had meringue on the bottom. My father, who loves sweet things, said it was delicious, but personally, I prefer cakes with a little less sweetness. I guess all I remember is the sweetness.

Cute puddings in eggshell cups. Bought a set of 6 for 1420 yen. Comes in four flavors: strawberry, plain, chocolate, and pumpkin. Not just cute, but also just the right amount of sweetness. Would make a great souvenir. Also bought a cake end for 440 yen, which is probably leftover from making cakes, but it's enough for a satisfying snack at home.

Visit on July 3, 2021: Located on the 1st floor of Atre Akihabara, which is the station building of JR Akihabara Station. It is right in front of the Denki-gai exit ticket gate, just a 1-2 minute walk away. This time, I purchased Melon Shortcake, Mille-feuille, Mango Pudding, and Ufu Pudding Mix (4 pieces). Mille-feuille is said to be the most popular. It consists of chocolate-flavored pie with layers of strawberry, custard cream, and whipped cream. The top is decorated with whipped cream, strawberries, and sugar, making it look very fancy. However, I'm not sure how to eat it properly. The chocolate pie was surprisingly hard, making it difficult to cut into bite-sized pieces. The custard cream in the center gets squished under pressure... The Melon Shortcake and Mango Pudding are delicious with plenty of seasonal fruits. The Ufu Pudding is a product I had seen before and always wanted to try. It comes in an eggshell used as a container for the pudding. Not only does it have a unique appearance, but it also tastes delicious.

I used egg, so is it egg pudding? I was walking around Akihabara Atre to buy some home sweets. I didn't feel like having a lot of cake, so I bought pudding instead. This set of four is a bit cheaper than buying four individually. My husband didn't want the pumpkin flavor, so we split the pumpkin ones and the rest about one third each. After all, I liked the normal pudding the best. The balance with the caramel at the bottom is good. I don't remember exactly, but I don't think the other flavors had caramel. Quatre is a French pastry shop located on the 1st floor of Atre Akihabara 1, just in front of the Electric Town exit of Akihabara Station. The name "QUATRE" in French means "four", symbolizing the importance of creating sweets according to each season. Quatre is originally from Kakinokizaka in Meguro and has branches in Kawaski, Hiyoshi Tokyu, Shibuya Tokyu Food Show, Tokyo Station, Shinagawa, Ueno, and Naruse-dai. Their most popular item is the "Ufu Pudding", which comes in a mix of four flavors: strawberry, plain, pumpkin, and chocolate. Each pudding is made with carefully nurtured eggs from Oku-Kuji. The pudding is rich and delicious, with caramel at the bottom. The cute and small size of the puddings makes it easy to enjoy each flavor one after another.

Visit on December 25: Located on the 1st floor of the JR Akihabara Station building, Akihabara. It is right in front of the Electric Town exit gate, so you can reach the shop within 1-2 minutes after exiting the gate. On December 25... Christmas Day, it was extremely crowded. There was a constant line with about 15 people waiting. The popular cakes seemed to have sold out by the evening. This time, I purchased two types of Christmas cakes. They looked fancy, cute, and tasted delicious. It's no wonder there is always a line...

If my memory serves me right, I heard wonderful rumors about the Kakinokizaka store of this main branch about 30 years ago when I was just starting out as a working adult. I always admired it but never had the chance to visit due to it being outside my living area. However, by chance, I finally had the opportunity to visit the Akihabara store. I tried the Mont Blanc, shortcake, Basque cheesecake, and egg pudding. The cakes were all elegantly light and not too rich in flavor. Especially, the refined taste of the shortcake's whipped cream was enchanting. The egg pudding had a unique caramel flavor that was a bit different from my preference, but I appreciated how it expanded my culinary horizons. The use of eggshells as containers enhanced the natural feel of the dessert. Many of the people lining up at the store were young men and women in their 20s. It warmed my heart to see the continuation of the traditional taste and culture of this long-established shop.

Chestnut Mont Blanc priced at 560 yen. Despite using domestic chestnuts, I didn't really feel the chestnut flavor. The aroma and taste of chestnuts were faint, and the pureness was lacking. The half chestnut on top also had a preserved taste, ruining the chestnut experience. It's not bad, but I would recommend the Mont Blanc from a certain confectionery store instead! The only delicious part was the crispy meringue at the bottom of the Mont Blanc. For a 560 yen chestnut Mont Blanc cake, it's okay. However, on the way home, they use tape and stiff paper to secure the cake so it doesn't fall apart, but it makes it hard to remove the cake because the tape is firmly attached.

Located in Akihabara, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, this pastry shop is attached to JR Akihabara Station in Atre Akihabara 1. They offer a variety of Western-style sweets, from fresh to baked goods. One of their specialties is Gateau Noix, a type of baked confectionery. It consists of walnuts and raisins mixed with caramel, wrapped in a dense cake dough. You can enjoy the crunchy texture of the walnuts, the juicy and tangy flavor of the raisins, the bittersweetness of the caramel, and the moistness of the dough. It is substantial, heavy, and satisfying to eat.

Slightly sour for 500 yen! The bottom half, which lacks any cherry blossom flavor, is sponge-like and tries to balance out the acidity, but the overall balance is off. Not recommended as a cherry blossom dessert or a cheesecake.

The pudding flavors were custard, strawberry, chocolate, and pumpkin. The pudding was elegantly decorated inside an eggshell, which was very cute. It was very delicious.

Ubu pudding with 4 eggs for 960 yen. The pudding is served in a real egg shell, which may raise concerns about hygiene, but it looks cute. I tried the pumpkin and chocolate flavors, both rich and delicious. I believe they use good quality eggs.
