The toppings at "Shippo Mala Tang" are priced based on weight, with the Ebisu branch using a system where 1g costs 3.1 yen. I enjoyed a delicious soup at a restaurant that serves healthy medicinal soups! I had my favorite "chikpa-o". It was my first time at the Ebisu store, and since they sell by weight, I ended up trying various types. I want to eat lots of mushrooms and vegetables, so next time I might try it without glass noodles. Thank you for the meal!

I chose my toppings first, then asked the staff for the level of spiciness and any additional toppings. They made it for me. The noodles were chewy and delicious! The soup was also good. I'm not great with spicy food, but I like it, so I chose level 1 spiciness. It was just about the right amount of spiciness for me (lol), so next time I think I'll choose level 0 or 1!

Located near the east exit of Ebisu Station, this place is always crowded even after 8 pm on weekends. The line moves quickly, so you can get in after waiting for about 10-20 minutes. Once inside, you can choose your favorite ingredients in a buffet style. It is a pay-by-weight system. My recommendation is young corn, shiitake mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, and the additional futama at the register. I ordered the soup at level 1 spiciness and upgraded to the extreme herbal soup for an extra 150 yen. You can also change the noodles. They use glass noodles, which is great for those on a diet. The interior has a counter and small tables for two, so it's best to go alone or with one other person. The space is not very large. At the counter, you can find Sichuan pepper, black vinegar, garlic, and ginger for unlimited use. I personally like to add a lot of ginger. Many people around me seem to add a lot of garlic. The soup and ingredients are always delicious no matter when you go. It's a fantastic place that will make you feel energized!

Since it's sold by weight, you can add a little at a time while consulting your wallet. Today, I changed the soup to a highly medicinal one. It has a deep and nourishing flavor. Basic form of Ma La Tang 564 yen. Sold by weight 554 yen: spinach, komatsuna, cabbage, broccoli, wood ear mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, chicken cartilage meatballs. Topping (pork) 136 yen. Soup arrangement 136 yen (highly medicinal soup) (excluding tax). The glass noodles here are thick and chewy, giving a satisfying texture that I like. I also added pork for fatigue recovery and vitamin B1 intake. It's great that you can consume a variety of ingredients in small amounts. When you're busy and lacking in vegetables, it's nice to be able to easily enjoy a healthy and nourishing soup that goes down smoothly.

Recommended by a friend, I visited this place for the first time and have become a regular customer since then. I think about their tea egg soup at least once a week now, haha. On this day, there were about 5 groups waiting but I got seated in about 15 minutes. Since many customers come alone, the turnover is quick. I ordered the spring roll soup level 1 spicy. This time, I asked for extra vegetables as toppings, but the soup ended up a bit thin and watery. However, it was still delicious. For more detailed reviews, please refer to my previous post.

It was delicious!! It was my first visit, so I randomly chose the toppings, but next time I want to try changing the soup too. I ended up buying some souvenirs without thinking. Recommended by a friend, I visited this place for the first time. I had to wait for about two groups before entering. Now I am completely hooked on Chi-Pao and want to eat it regularly. When you enter, you first take your favorite ingredients in a bowl (sold by weight), hand it to the staff, and then order the toppings (priced separately) and spiciness of the meat. ⚫︎ Normal Soup with glass noodles (1 spiciness level) costs around ¥1,100. The spiciness is about average for most people, but even the mildest level is quite spicy. Towards the end, you start to feel sweat and runny nose... The taste of the soup is like a mix between soup curry and hot pot. It has a light umami flavor that is addictive. 【Recommended Toppings】 ・Mushrooms Especially delicious are the wood ear mushrooms. ・Pork The pork belly adds a nice flavor...! ・Cartilage meatballs Meatballs with cartilage and lotus root (?). The texture is good and the taste is delicious, my personal No.1 recommendation!

I used it for lunch on a regular day. I have used it several times and I like it. I am on a diet, so I topped it with lots of mushrooms. While everyone around me chose level 1 spiciness, I went for the maximum level of 5. I like the chewy texture of the glass noodles this spring. It was delicious, and I finished it all in no time.

I often go to a restaurant in Ebisu. When I go for lunch, it can be quite busy or empty. I think it's a good place to go when you want to eat a lot of your favorite vegetables or when you want to take care of your body. The amount of vegetables is surprisingly large, so I make sure not to overeat.

This is my go-to place. It can get crowded during lunchtime, but if you go after 2pm, you can get in without waiting. You pick your own ingredients and have them cooked for you. They have a variety of mushrooms like shiitake and enoki, as well as meatballs, sausages, quail eggs, spinach, and Chinese broccoli, among others. Healthy and delicious!

On the weekend, I had some errands to run in Ebisu. So, I visited the "Nanaho Mala Tang Ebisu" restaurant. When you enter the restaurant, you first get vegetables and other ingredients by yourself! You weigh them and pay at the counter. After a short wait, the long-awaited spicy hot pot is ready! I dove right in and it was truly a treasure. Next time, if I have the chance, I would definitely like to try that treasure again.

The spicy hot pot here has less oil. In September 2022, there are more types of vegetables than in the summer, which is nice. Recommended are vegetables such as mustard greens, spinach, Chinese broccoli, Napa cabbage, cabbage, okra, broccoli, etc. The recommended items are those vegetables along with wood ear mushrooms, lotus root, cartilage meatballs, and water dumplings. I like to pour plenty of Hoajiao sauce on top.

I visited the Ebisu location for the first time after using the Akasaka store last time. It is located next to Hiiragi, the taiyaki shop. The store is small and cozy, and it was quite crowded with people, so I had to wait a bit. Ordering toppings is the same as before, but in Akasaka, you could choose up to 3 toppings without extra charge before paying, while in Ebisu, toppings are calculated by weight and added to the bill later, so you end up not knowing the total price before eating... I chose toppings like wood ear mushrooms, spinach, cherry tomatoes, wonton, tofu hamburger, quail egg, enoki mushrooms, etc., and ordered the soup with level 2 spiciness, fluffy egg topping, and changed the glass noodles to oboro tofu. With the mildness of the fluffy egg and the change to oboro tofu, the spiciness was hardly noticeable, making it taste like a mild sundubu, and it was delicious. The total price was 1,339 yen, which is quite expensive (lol), but you can customize it to your liking, and it's healthy and delicious, so I would like to visit again. This soup is addictive.

I love vegetables, so I measured a lot of them in grams. The soup was spicy and addictive. This time I went to the Ebisu branch (last time was at the Gakugeidaigaku branch). The interior of the restaurant is small and the turnover is quick. Today I had beef with mozzarella cheese topping, komatsuna, spinach, lotus root, quail eggs, and kikurage mushrooms. There was also an option for miso-flavored miso broth. The variety of ingredients was more abundant at the Gakugeidaigaku branch, with white kikurage mushrooms, baby corn, and more. Even though it was not very spicy, it was still quite hot, but delicious. The total cost was around 1600 yen. This restaurant does not have self-service, so you have to pay at the regular register. I would like to go back again.

At Ebisu, I had spicy hot pot for dinner on a weekday. When I entered the restaurant, there was a refrigerator with vegetables right at the entrance, and the staff asked if it was my first time there. I said I had been to other branches before, but this was my first time at the Ebisu store, so I listened to the explanation. The toppings are sold by weight. ★Spicy Hot Pot 527 yen ★Toppings by weight 472 yen (spinach, Chinese cabbage, wood ear mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, shrimp balls, chicken balls, crab balls, etc.) I took quite a lot of toppings, but it was surprisingly cheap. Total 1,052 yen. The spiciness level was 3. The spicy hot pot was delicious. Vegetables go well with anything. I added garlic and ginger from the condiments on the table, which complemented the dish well. Be careful not to add too much Sichuan pepper oil, as it can make your mouth numb. I like to change the flavor with black vinegar. When I left, there were about three people waiting in line. There were many solo diners, and there were also quite a few men.

I visited the restaurant after seeing a long line in front of it before. The spring rolls and soup cost 550 yen. You can then choose your favorite ingredients at 2.25 yen per gram. You can purchase around 100-150g of ingredients for a total of under 1,000 yen. You can also choose the level of spiciness you prefer. I was satisfied with the moderately spicy soup and ingredients. It seemed like there were many solo female diners, possibly because I avoided the lunch rush. Payment is only accepted through cashless methods.

When I was studying in China, I used to eat hot and spicy soup (麻辣湯) at the school cafeteria almost every day. I knew there were restaurants in Japan where I could eat it, but I never had the chance until now. I happened to have some business in Ebisu, so I decided to have a quick solo lunch there. It seemed quite popular, as it was full when I arrived around 12 o'clock and I had to wait outside for about 30 minutes. You can add toppings as much as you like, and since it was my first time, I didn't really know what to choose and ended up putting a lot in my bowl, which ended up being around 270g in no time... I thought it was too much, but I decided to order it anyway. In the end, I regretted the amount being too much, but the taste was perfect! This is true Chinese medicinal cuisine, I thought as I slurped the soup. It really warms up your body. To think that you can get such an authentic soup with just glass noodles for only 550 yen without any toppings is incredibly reasonable. This is a dish I definitely want to eat in the cold season. I must visit this place again.

I visited Harusawa-ya, a restaurant in Tokyo known for its spicy soups. I tried the Bak Kut Teh (around 1000 yen) and the Spicy Cola (around 350 yen). The Bak Kut Teh was delicious but lacked a bit of spice. The meat was a mix of dry and tender, which was interesting. I only had a few sips of my friend's Ma La Tang soup, but I think I would have liked it. They also serve Tom Yum soup, so I want to go back to try that. The Spicy Cola was a nice surprise, but it was too powdery! It had a unique flavor with cumin, but the powder was overwhelming. I was told to mix it often, but it just kept sinking to the bottom. If you drink it without stirring to avoid the powder, the taste is a bit weak, but still enjoyable. I was surprised by how affordable everything was!

This is a late lunch. I often come to this restaurant at off-peak hours because it's always crowded. I entered, sanitized my hands, and put on gloves before selecting my ingredients. I picked up sausages, zucchini, lotus root, cherry tomatoes, taro, Chinese cabbage, kikurage mushrooms, okra, and onions. I asked the staff for pork and cilantro. I chose a spice level of 3. It was delicious as always, with plenty of vegetables and meat. The hot and spicy soup is something I crave regularly, and it was especially tasty that day.

I have been to Shippo Mala Tang countless times, I can't even remember how many times. The Ebisu branch charges by the gram, so you can choose your favorite ingredients in small portions. You can adjust the spiciness level from 3 to 4 toppings, and the usual toppings include zucchini, shiitake mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, shimeji mushrooms, mountain vegetables, hanabiratake mushrooms, natto, and chrysanthemum leaves. Recently, I have also been adding lamb as a topping. Generally, the food is delicious every time, but occasionally, the flavor may be a bit weak (like when it's supposed to be level 3 but not spicy at all). I wish they could be more consistent in that aspect.
