I was recommended to try "tougarashi ojako" by someone living in Kyoto, and now I'm completely hooked. So this time, I took a taxi from Kyoto Station to a place called "Kamura" where they sell tougarashi ojako. It's located near Higashiyama Gojo, just off the Umamachi intersection. While making my purchase, there were cute cats in the store playing around, so I had fun playing with them. I bought two types of ojako this time. One is the regular tougarashi ojako, and the other one is... unbelievably spicy tougarashi ojako! I can't stop eating it. In Kyoto, you often find yuzukosho ojako, but how about trying the green chili pepper ojako? It can last for two weeks in the refrigerator, and you can also freeze it. Enjoy!

When I visited Mr. Kamura's website, I found out that it is a famous shop often featured in the media! I was craving for their Kyoto chili fish jerky, so I decided to order it online. After placing the order, I received a confirmation call the same day, and they mentioned that it would be delivered in 4-5 days. The service was very polite and pleasant. True to their word, it arrived in just 4 days. I quickly prepared some warm rice and tried it out! The Kyoto chili fish jerky (65g for 710 yen) had a nice aroma of the sea when I opened the bag, making my appetite soar. The jerky was smaller than I expected, but it was packed with flavor and surprisingly moist and tender. The subtle spiciness of the chili spread in my mouth. The Kyoto yuzu chili fish jerky (32g for 420 yen) had a refreshing yuzu flavor with the chili adding a nice kick. The balance between yuzu and chili was just right. The Kyoto sansho chili fish jerky (37g for 530 yen) had the strongest flavor of sansho among the ones I tried. The sansho flavor coated the jerky well. Personally, this might be my favorite. Each one was delicious, and I found myself quickly finishing my rice without realizing it. Since there are no preservatives, I felt like I had to eat it quickly, but it was so good that I might finish it in no time. I wished I had bought more. However, the shipping cost for ordering online was a bit higher than I expected, so I might not be able to buy them frequently, which is a shame. But they seem perfect for a little luxury treat or as a gift. I would definitely purchase them again if I have the chance. Thank you for the meal.

"I like 'ojako'. I found this place online before going to Kyoto. Looking forward to trying the 'togarashi ojako'. It's a small shop. I wonder if it's run by a father and daughter.
- Togarashi ojako: The spiciness comes from 'aotou' peppers, but it's a light spiciness and delicious. Goes well with rice. I regret not buying more because it was so tasty.
- Chirimen sansho: A classic flavor that I enjoy. This one doesn't use synthetic preservatives, so the shelf life is shorter than others. I need to eat it soon!"

Title: "The Fourth TKG♪"
As the Shinkansen approaches Kyoto, a familiar melody plays on the train. I like this song. It's time to pack up the morning beer set and prepare to get off the train. Upon arriving at the station, another voice can be heard. I like this announcement. After getting a map, it's time to embark on a day of exploring and drinking in Kyoto.
Today, I want to introduce a snack recommended by Emiri Henmi, called "Ojako." The shop is located between Sanjusangendo and Kiyomizu Temple. It's a small place, with Emiri Henmi and Ito Soran's autographs on the wall. The staff are friendly and allowed me to take photos inside. Here are some of the products they offer:
- Togarashi Ojako (32g for 420 yen, 65g for 735 yen)
- Value Pack Togarashi Ojako (50g for 500 yen)
- Premium Togarashi Ojako (70g for 970 yen)
- Chirimen Sansho (37g for 550 yen)
- Iwashi no Chinmi Inro-ni (400 yen)
The shop can sell out quickly, especially popular items like the Chirimen Sansho. It's recommended to call ahead to reserve your items. You can call a few days in advance to request a reservation. Make sure to pick up your items around the agreed-upon time, as they may not be ready if you arrive too early.
Now, let's talk about the taste. But before that, when it comes to "rice accompaniments," what do you like?

Kyoto Togarashi Ojako Kamura, located in Bama-cho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, is a quite famous shop. This time, I wanted to do a taste comparison, so I bought Kyoto Togarashi Ojako 65g for 735 yen and Special Selection Togarashi Ojako for 970 yen and brought them home. The special selection was not very spicy, as the staff had mentioned, and had a mellow taste. The regular one was a bit spicy and had a slightly different taste compared to the special selection. However, considering the price for a small amount, it may be a bit expensive to purchase.

☆ Lunch Trip with Mrs. (Kyoto, Higashiyama Gojo)! ⇒ Recently, I noticed that there are more cafes in the area as I took a stroll and found a shop selling delicious dried small fish. I love it! So, I bought some to take home. $ Order! * "Tokuyou Tougarashi Ojako (95g)" 1037 yen including tax… 3.5: When you put it on rice and take a bite, the flavor of "tougarashi" pleasantly fills your mouth and nose. Then, the spiciness kicks in followed by the taste of dried small fish. The seasoning is light and refreshing, so it may not be the type that makes you eat a lot of rice, but it is very delicious♪ * "Gekikara Ojako (50g)" 842 yen… 3.6: If you are not a fan of spicy food, then this is not for you. But for someone like me who loves spicy food, it is amazing! Unlike "Tokuyou Tougarashi Ojako," the spiciness of this one spreads directly! But it's delicious! * "Chirimen Sansho (65g)" 1143 yen… 3.6: When you take a bite, the flavor of sansho spreads gently, followed by a tingling sensation on the tongue. If you love the tingling sensation, this is delicious! * "Yuzu Ojako": A must-try for yuzu lovers! When you take a bite, the aroma of yuzu spreads all over your face intensely! If you love yuzu, please give it a try! Closing "Summary": Overall, the seasoning may not make you eat a lot of rice, but it has a very elegant and fragrant taste, as if gently placed on top of rice at a super high-class restaurant♪ ・Rather than adding "soy sauce" or mixing it with "egg rice," please enjoy it while savoring the aroma.♪ Thank you very much for always "liking," "saving the shop," and "following." If you have any comments or questions, I would be happy to hear them♪ ・Please continue to support us in the future. Thank you very much.

When I visited the restaurant "Kayou Okamoto" and arrived earlier than my reservation time, I decided to walk around to pass the time. I noticed a shop across the street with a sign that read "Kyoto Togarashi Ojako," so I opened the door and went inside. As soon as I entered, I saw a display case with various types of ojako being sold. I was curious about the extremely spicy ojako, but when I asked the staff how spicy it was, they warned me that just a little bite would make me feel really hot, so I decided not to try it. Instead, I purchased the 65g Togarashi Ojako, which was plump and had a gentle sweetness from mirin and a rich flavor from bonito that paired perfectly with rice. The sharp spiciness from green chili peppers added a nice kick, making it perfect for enjoying with rice. The ojako can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, and you can choose different weights to purchase. It was so delicious that I wish I had bought a larger amount than just 65g!

I received "Kyoto Togarashi Ojako Kamura" which sounds like a spell, but it's actually a type of snack. Normally it's ham, but the company president changed and now it's like this. I'm not a fan of ojako, but it's much better than ham. It's simple, served on spicy daikon, and surprisingly delicious. It has a great flavor and taste. This could be used in pasta or as a side dish, it's that good. Both the togarashi and sansho flavors were tasty.

Recently, there have been various manga series featuring meals for one and food delivery, following the trend of "Oishinbo". I decided to order from one of these places that seemed suitable for our dining table. The next day, I received a very polite and friendly phone call from the shop, apologizing for a slight delay in shipping due to appearing on TV. I didn't mind waiting at all, as I was looking forward to it. The shop staff were so considerate. I ordered Oyster Simmered in Soy Sauce. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of oysters, but when I put one on a warm bowl of rice and took a bite, the oyster flavor spread gently without any unpleasant taste. Yuzu Citrus with Shredded Dried Fish was refreshing and slightly spicy, making it a great match with white rice. Shredded Dried Fish with Sansho Pepper had a nice aroma of Japanese pepper that made me want to have multiple servings of rice. The Spicy Chili Dried Fish was deliciously spicy and went well with drinks. The Premium Dried Fish was milder and more delicate than the Spicy Chili version, and it was amazing. I felt that this shop would be a reliable choice for gifts like summer and year-end gifts, based on the reassuring phone call service. I would like to visit the shop in person next time. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
