I have been going to this restaurant since I moved to Tokyo. Located in Nishi-Shinjuku, this Chinese-style restaurant called "Shohei Ramen" is known for its handmade dishes. The steamed chicken with Sichuan pepper, crispy and chewy gyoza with a peppery filling, and perfectly cooked negi tamago are all delicious. The soup and noodles are made on the third floor, and the balance of the soup's aroma and thickness, as well as the homemade noodles' texture and flavor, is perfect. While not a ramen specialty shop, it is definitely the best ramen in Shinjuku's Chinese-style restaurants. The manager's service is always reliable, and they do a great job of keeping the staff motivated. We had five drinks and ordered all this for just around 5,000 yen. The cost performance is excellent. I will definitely visit again!

I had a job in Shinjuku and it was around lunchtime, so I looked around and happened to see this restaurant, so I decided to visit. I arrived just before 1 pm and was able to enter without waiting. The restaurant seemed to have a decent capacity with two seating areas. Now, as for the order, the menu was so extensive that I had a hard time deciding, but I ended up choosing the "Toku DX Tsukemen". The rich toppings were served separately. The noodles were a bit heavy, but I liked the sour and spicy dipping sauce. Many people seemed to be ordering the fried rice, so it must be a recommended dish. Next time, I'll try ordering ramen and half fried rice. Thank you for the meal.

You can enjoy both ramen and izakaya dishes here. The volume of tsukemen, fried rice, and gyoza is so huge that you might not be able to finish it all, so be careful. Recommended points include generous portions, affordable prices, and delicious soy milk tantanmen with a rich flavor and a bit of spiciness for stress relief. The salt tsukemen may seem a bit bland at first bite, but the quantity is just right, providing a satisfying feeling as you progress through the meal. The refreshing tsukemen is easy to eat and brings a level of happiness. It gets crowded at night, so the best time to visit is surprisingly after the peak hours.

On a regular Wednesday, I made a reservation on Hot Pepper the day before for a 2,980 yen course starting at 6:45 PM. The course includes drinks, but no beer. If you want beer, it's an additional 320 yen, typical for this place. During the Hot Pepper Summer Point Reduction Festival, if you enter and book a course, you can get a 1,200 yen point back at this restaurant. So, in reality, it's 1,820 yen. Some of my followers have been to this place. Overall, the reviews are not that great, but personally, I think the cost performance is excellent. I planned to order the cheapest course and add their famous Char Siu Tsukemen as a final dish, but my stomach couldn't handle it. The course includes the following:
- 2 appetizers
- Grilled dumplings
- Fried chicken & potato fries
- Mapo tofu or stir-fried meat and vegetables
- Pork in oyster sauce
- Fried rice
- Dessert
Overall, it was just okay. It's Chinese food, so nothing is really bad. It's very affordable and I quite like it. Thank you for the meal!

Wow, Tokyo is so hot! It feels like one degree hotter than Sendai and two degrees hotter than Sapporo. For lunch in August in Nishi-Shinjuku, I decided to try out Shouhei in Narukosaka for the first time in probably 7 or 8 years. It was just past 12 o'clock and there was no line outside, with only 2 or 3 people waiting inside. I ordered the Tsukemen daily rice bowl set (1,000 yen) at the ticket machine on the right after entering. The Tsukemen (700 yen) and today's rice bowl (300 yen) were not really a deal for the set (lol). This place is known for its orthodox soy sauce-based Tsukemen, which is common in Nishi-Shinjuku. Despite the name being Shouhei, it seems to have no relation to that monster. While waiting, the kitchen staff asked to see my food ticket to confirm the order and started boiling the noodles. The noodles were cooked in a large pot with medium-thick curly noodles for about 7 to 8 servings. I was seated in front of the ticket machine shortly after. About 5 minutes later, my noodles were served in a strainer. The noodles were chewy and delicious. The dipping sauce had a slightly sour soy sauce flavor with a strong salty taste. I added some spicy miso and it was really good! The dipping sauce came with finely chopped chashu pork and green onions, which were also tasty. The portion of noodles was decent, around 250 to 300 grams. The teriyaki sauce for the chashu and mayonnaise rice bowl was sweet and savory, and it was also delicious. I finished my meal feeling full and satisfied. Eating nutritious food is the best way to prevent summer fatigue, right? Thank you for the meal.

I hadn't tried the yakisoba with five ingredients at this restaurant yet, so I decided to order it. The noodles were slightly thick and well-cooked, almost to the point of being firm like yakisoba. The five ingredient sauce had a thick and strong consistency. The strong cooking of the noodles made it slightly difficult to eat, but it was undeniably delicious. Just like this restaurant's style, the portion size was very large, so please be aware of that.

Sometimes I cheat, but almost 90% of the time it's with Cantonese noodles. They are thick noodles made with plenty of water, served with a stir-fry of meat, vegetables, and seafood on top. It never gets old. However, due to recent circumstances, the price has slowly increased from 700 yen to 750 yen, then 800 yen, and now 850 yen. I saw today that it has gone up again to 900 yen. It's almost reaching 1000 yen. That's understandable, but recently the amount of meat has clearly decreased... Are they raising the price stealthily after the initial increase? Well, if that's the case, I'd rather they increase the price even more and maintain the quality of the ingredients...

After drinking alcohol, I entered the two-story building and was guided to the second floor. The staff were all young and seemed to be in high spirits, creating a lively atmosphere. When I asked one young man for a recommendation, he replied, "Karaage (fried chicken)." However, I found the karaage to be too heavy at the second stop. Apart from karaage, they offered various izakaya staples, as well as tsukemen, yakisoba, unique noodles, fried rice, etc. I was recommended the ramen, so I ordered the reasonably priced ramen (¥650) at a prime location near Shinjuku Station West Exit. The soup was extremely rich in flavor. It was enjoyable to eat after drinking alcohol and numbing my brain, but I wondered if it would be too strong when sober. It was a soy sauce tonkotsu ramen. The homemade curly noodles had a great texture. I would like to come back when I'm not too drunk next time. Thank you for the meal.

I had some business in this area a few times and visited the restaurant, but it was always too crowded during peak hours, so it has been a few years since I last had a meal here. I ended up ordering the familiar Special DX Tsukemen. There were many other menu items that caught my eye, but when it comes to Shoho, it's all about the tsukemen. The restaurant was full of customers waiting for their orders, but the kitchen staff were efficient and the food was served quickly. When the Special DX Tsukemen arrived, I was surprised to see that it looked different from before - it didn't come with the seasoned egg this time, just the regular toppings. Also, the flavor of the bamboo shoots and chashu seemed stronger compared to before. I apologize if I got it wrong. This dish was slightly different from what I remembered.

I went after 3pm, so the restaurant was empty. I ordered a large serving of tantan tsukemen and half fried rice, but I regretted it. The portions were too big... Next time, I'll go for a regular size and it should be fine. The fried rice wasn't too heavy and had a nice flavor. However, I ended up feeling more bloated than full, and I was sweating like crazy. *Eating spicy food with a high metabolism = too much sweat.

We go back to mid-June. As my workplace is moving next week, my regular visits to Shinjuku Ramen Life will come to an end. So, I went on a farewell tour of the shops I have been grateful for. Therefore, for a while, there will be a series of tsukemen reviews. First up is this place! They also have a branch in Narukosaka. It's a rare shop where you can get a set of fried rice and ramen or tsukemen for less than 1,000 yen. I didn't review it much, but I visited every other week. On this day, as usual, I ordered the chashu tsukemen for 900 yen and an ajitama (flavored egg) for 100 yen with a food ticket. They kindly accepted my request for "less oil." The interior has seating up to the second floor, with groups generally seated on the second floor and solo customers at the counter on the first floor. Sometimes, the floors change due to turnover. The meal arrived in less than 10 minutes! I took a photo and dug in right away! I will provide more details later, but it has a light Quattro soup base and medium-thick noodles that can be enjoyed lightly. I think the cost performance is good in this area, and the staff who serve you are quick and stress-free! I would love to visit again when I'm in the area! Thank you for the meal! Thank you for everything! I will definitely come back someday♪

Arrived around 11:20 on Tuesday. The restaurant was about half full, probably because it was still early. Purchased the tsukemen and half fried rice set (900 yen) from the ticket machine, then sat at the seat on the right end of the counter. First, the half fried rice was served, followed by the tsukemen. The noodles for the tsukemen were thick and curly, cooked al dente. They were topped with chopped seaweed. The noodles had a good chewy texture, which I liked. The dipping broth was on the watery side but had a strong salty flavor. I added vinegar, pepper, and chili oil from the table to adjust the taste to my liking. The toppings included bamboo shoots, chashu pork, and green onions. The half fried rice had narutomaki, green onions, chashu pork, and egg as toppings. It was moist and slightly crispy, with a mild flavor that paired well with the salty broth. Since the menu is extensive, I would like to try the ramen and another set next time. Thank you for the meal.

Wonton noodles and fried rice! It's a large portion, but I'm not a big eater... Oh, it's a nostalgic dish with a mix of chicken, pork, and fish! The wontons are big, especially around Shinjuku! Both the wonton noodles and fried rice were delicious! I enjoyed it!

■ Visited "Shouhei Ramen Shinjuku Nishiguchi" for the first time. The restaurant is located a 3-minute walk from Nishi-Shinjuku Station on the Marunouchi Line, and is also close to Shinjuku Nishiguchi Station on the Toei Oedo Line, making it easily accessible from JR Shinjuku Station and Seibu Shinjuku Station. I visited on a weekday around 2 pm, so the lunchtime rush was over and there were empty seats inside. I purchased a meal ticket from the ticket machine at the entrance and entered the restaurant. I bought the "Tsukemen Half Fried Rice Set" from the lunch menu, which is priced at a very reasonable 900 yen. The other lunch menu option, "Ramen Half Fried Rice Set," is priced at 850 yen. The affordable lunch menu caught my attention, leading to my first visit.
■ Ate the "Tsukemen Half Fried Rice Set". The tsukemen was served about 5-6 minutes after ordering, followed by the half fried rice. The dipping sauce is made with a "Quattro Soup" of chicken, pork, beef, and fish. The portion of noodles was quite generous. The soup is soy sauce-based with acidity and spiciness. The medium-thick curly noodles pair well with the soup, creating a delicious combination. The flavors of seafood and pork bone are not overpowering, resulting in a smooth umami taste with a pleasant mouthfeel. As for the set's half fried rice, it was unexpectedly delicious! Honestly, I can't quite explain why. The texture of the rice and the mix of ingredients were perfect, leaving me puzzled by its deliciousness. It looks like a typical Chinese-style fried rice, but why is it so tasty? It was incredibly delicious. Maybe it just happened to suit my taste. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it so much that I'm already thinking of coming back just for the fried rice. The lunch set was very satisfying, offering great value for money. I thoroughly enjoyed the "Tsukemen Half Fried Rice Set." I'm curious about trying other noodles, but I definitely want to have the fried rice again next time! I will visit again soon. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Arrived at 12:25 for the second time. This time I was seated on the second floor. I didn't realize how spacious it was. The restaurant was about 70% full. I ordered fried rice for 650 yen, and dumplings for 300 yen, totaling 950 yen. Unfortunately, from the second floor, I couldn't see the cooking area. Around 12:35, my dishes were served together. The fried rice was not piping hot. It was on the dry side and a bit bland. It had simple ingredients with a lot of narutomaki. The portion was generous. The dumplings were crispy on the outside, with a good meaty flavor. Since the fried rice was bland, the dumplings served as a good side dish. I would consider coming back for the fried rice. In my opinion, places that offer half-fried rice tend to have a higher chance of disappointment. I left the restaurant feeling 95% full.

Ramen Half Fried Rice Set for 800 yen
I decided to go for a quick ramen and fried rice combo. The set includes ramen and half a portion of fried rice, all for just 800 yen - what a bargain! This price is amazing for Shinjuku. The taste is typical of instant noodles, but it's the kind of flavor that makes you keep eating. It's a taste that anyone can enjoy. My only concern is that it might make you thirsty afterwards. I'll have to try other items on the menu next time. Thank you for the meal.

This evening, I decided to have a late lunch in Shinjuku before attending a farewell party at 7:30 pm. I was in the mood for tsukemen due to the recent hot weather, so I chose to try a place I had never been to before. I decided to go to Shouhei Ramen Shinjuku Nishiguchi branch based on reviews. I arrived a little before 2 pm and the place was quite crowded. I ordered the Toku DX Tsukemen for 1000 yen and also ordered a bottle of beer for 500 yen to cool off. The tsukemen was served promptly, and it was quite a generous portion. The soup tasted like a tsukemen version of Chinese soba, not the typical fish-based broth. The noodles were medium-thick and curly, giving a nice Chinese soba feel. The toppings included chashu, boiled bean sprouts & cabbage, bamboo shoots, seasoned egg, seaweed, and pickled radish. The pickled radish was a unique touch. The chashu was fatty and tender, and there was lean chashu in the dipping sauce. As I enjoyed my meal with beer, I quickly finished the noodles that initially seemed like too much. Overall, it was a delicious and cost-effective tsukemen. A great place to stop by when in need of a casual meal. Thank you for the meal.

I made a reservation for a 2.5-hour all-you-can-drink course for 3500 yen. The dishes were plentiful and all very delicious, making the quality of the 2.5-hour all-you-can-drink deal very cost-effective. It's a bit far from Shinjuku Station, but other than that, I think it's perfect.

Arrived at 12:05. Operating at 90% capacity? Seems to have a second floor as well. Ordered the Mapo Tofu Donburi for 850 yen. Decided to skip the gyoza as the portion seemed large. Seated at the farthest table, but it's quite chilly due to the draft. Donburi arrived in about 5 minutes. In conclusion, it was delicious. Initially thought the rice was hard, but the hot Mapo Tofu softened it up. The Sichuan pepper was coarsely ground, making a crunchy sound when eaten, but it was not unpleasant. It's labeled as medium spicy, which was just right for me. After finishing, there was a slight tingling sensation in the mouth. The soup was chicken broth with a good seasoning. Felt 95% full. Even if I had ordered gyoza, maybe only about 2 pieces would fit in. Around 12:20, there was a wait for about 2 people.

I left Shinjuku Station West Exit and headed towards Ome Kaido. Just past Kabukicho, you'll find this restaurant. It's a reasonably priced Chinese restaurant that is always crowded, both during lunch and dinner. On this day, I opted for the lunch menu. It was just past 1 o'clock but the place was almost full. I was seated at a table near the front. While ramen and tsukemen are popular choices, the Chinese rice bowl caught my eye. I decided to order it, craving for a taste of it after a long time. It took about 10 minutes for my order to arrive due to the crowd. The Chinese rice bowl was finally served. It was topped with a generous amount of stir-fried vegetables and shrimp in a thick sauce. I dug in immediately. The piping hot and flavorful stir-fried vegetables were delicious! The rice portion was quite generous, making it a filling meal. The ingredients included Chinese cabbage, carrots, wood ear mushrooms, shrimp, and pork. The rich flavor of the Chinese rice bowl was satisfying. The soup served alongside was reminiscent of typical ramen soup found in local Chinese restaurants. Enjoying the soup while eating the Chinese rice bowl was a delightful experience. Despite the substantial portion, I managed to finish the meal. This kind of Chinese rice bowl lunch always brings joy.
