I visited a restaurant that I had been curious about for a while. It is located very close to Ueno Station South Exit. When I arrived at the restaurant during lunchtime, it was crowded and I had to wait a bit before being seated. Before sitting down, I placed my order at the register and paid in advance, receiving a numbered ticket. I ordered the Mackerel Mirin-dried Fish Set for 830 yen. My companion ordered the Pork Belly and Green Onion Salt Grilled Set for 880 yen. When we sat down, there was cold tea in a pot waiting for us, which was much appreciated. On the table, there was special soy sauce and shiso furikake available. Our dishes arrived in about 10 minutes, surprisingly quick considering how busy the restaurant was. The mackerel mirin-dried fish had a nice char on it, indicating it was fatty. When I took a bite, it was indeed fatty and slightly sweet, very delicious. It had a charcoal flavor from being grilled over charcoal. The rice portion was generous, well-cooked, and very tasty. It went well with the fish and was very satisfying. The miso soup had a strong dashi flavor and was delicious. The daikon radish grated on top was a side dish, and when eaten with a little special soy sauce along with the fish, it was even more delicious. My companion's pork belly and green onion salt grilled dish came with tongs and scissors for cutting, and after trying a bit, I found the green onions crunchy and the pork belly very tender and tasty. I usually come here for lunch. I ordered the Ooyama chicken flavored sashimi steak for 980 yen (with less rice -50 yen) and a shirasu salad for 100 yen. This place mainly serves dried fish, but the meat dishes are also delicious and filling. The steak was cut into pieces for me to eat, and the inside was half-raw and very tasty.

The customers were mostly working men (70%) and working women (30%), with many solo diners, indicating a high turnover rate.

I decided to try it anyway and indeed, it wasn't very good! Despite that, I felt like I was getting a lot of enzymes from it. I ordered the grilled horse mackerel set meal for 750 yen (50 yen off for half rice). The horse mackerel was grilled plump and had just the right amount of saltiness, it was delicious. It felt like I had eaten delicious grilled horse mackerel after a long time. The miso soup was not that great, but oh well. I came here to eat fish after all. And all this for just 700 yen, almost like a lunch price. Great value. Looking at the menu, I noticed they have "grilled fish skewers" which I am really curious about. I definitely want to try it next time.
