Good evening, it's Tenhanjii. On May 5th, Children's Day, I went to Shinjuku Gyoen again. The wisteria was still early, but the roses were blooming quite a bit. It's an oasis in the city. There were grass turtles in the pond instead of red-eared sliders (midorigame). After that, I went to Nage again. Not the main building of Golden Gai, but the annex. Visited around 4:30 pm on May 5, 2022. The shop is located in a relatively new building in Shinjuku Golden Gai. The bright red sign outside looks like a certain chain store that boasts its lineage. Are they trying to appeal to that kind of audience? Inside the shop, I bought meal tickets for: - Amazing Niboshi Ramen (special) 1070 yen - Extra niboshi 100 yen The menu is the same as the main building I visited recently, but the prices are different. In the main building, each item costs 1300 yen and 150 yen. Now, is it the same or different? At this time, there were only 2 or 3 customers in the store. The capacity is different from the main building, so it feels empty. There seem to be only two female staff members. One of them seems to be Southeast Asian based on her name tag. They welcomed me to sit at the counter near the entrance, and I made my preferences known. You can see the available options displayed on the ticket machine (which was not the case in the main building). I opted for extra noodles, firm noodles, more oil, medium spiciness, and an additional 3 sheets of noodles. Similar to my order at the main building. I noticed that they added white powder after the seasoning this time. It took about 5 minutes to serve. Let's talk about the taste: - Soup: The soup looks similar to the main building's soup at first glance. It has silver (dried sardine skin) flakes mixed in, giving it a strong dried sardine flavor with a hint of sweetness. However, the taste of the strong umami seasoning is still present. It seems more pronounced here, potentially spoiling the dried sardine flavor. - Noodles: The noodles are about the same thickness as chopsticks and slightly curly. They are chewy and delicious. The noodles are the same as the main building. But even though I requested firm noodles, these are softer than the main building's. The wide sheet-like noodles are also similar to the main building's, but these are softer. It feels like there's more noodles here. - Toppings: The extra dried sardines topping seems to be less here compared to the main building. The sweet and spicy sauce (medium spiciness) is the same, but the main building also had a sprinkle of chili powder. The chashu is tender and flavorful, similar to the main building, but the pieces here are larger and moderately thick. The seasoned egg is delicious, but it's almost plain here, unlike the main building's lightly seasoned one. The seaweed is good, but it's a bit soft here. Overall, the difference in price seems to affect the amount of umami seasoning used. So, if you want to enjoy the dried sardine flavor, I recommend the main building. Thank you for the meal.
