When passing by on my bicycle, I noticed a cafe operating and decided to stop by. The staff confirmed that I could come in, so I smoothly entered the cafe. They had a wide variety of drinks, including medicinal liquor. I ordered the bitter goby fish spring rolls with cheese and some barley tea. As described, the spring rolls were filled with plenty of bitter goby fish, which is known for its bitterness. As the saying goes, "bitter medicine is good for the mouth," so I highly recommend this dish when feeling tired. The eye-friendly tea was very easy to drink.

After eating horse thief-style tantanmen and gyoza, I arrived. They used to serve grilled eel four years ago. However, you can take home the dried goods. Cook vegetables, preferably strong-smelling ones like burdock, for a long time to make a delicious dish. If cooked for a short time, it will become a dish with a strong and peculiar smell. It is excellent for the body. You can still enjoy health tonic alcohol. They serve Natsume as a snack. The peculiar but recommended drink is the ginseng medicinal alcohol. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is nice.

Souvenir edition. There was a surprising discovery. Walking in Asakusa, I happened to come across a shop. Lately, I've been troubled by dry eyes (probably from spending too much time on Tabelog), and I was drawn in by a sign that said "improves eye fatigue." The product is made from natural eel extract and vitamin A oil. It is said to be effective for dry eyes, fatigue during illness or recovery, periods of growth, and vitamin A supplementation during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The shop is filled with various products like medicinal eye drops and teas that are good for the eyes. There is also an eat-in corner where you can enjoy a variety of "herb-infused sake," including seal sake. In the past, they used to serve grilled eel, but it's now considered too precious to offer. I bought a trial box of the eel oil capsules. When I opened it, I found yellow transparent capsules, although I had imagined a more vivid red color. While it's not exactly traditional medicine, I felt like I experienced some benefits. They also accept phone orders, so I might consider it. For health enthusiasts, there are plenty of interesting products to explore, and I would love to visit again if given the chance.

Visited a place in Asakusa for lunch after coming from Ashikaga. The place seemed to be a store selling medicinal herbs and alcohol, rather than a restaurant. They no longer served eel due to supply issues, so I ordered the Cheese Spring Rolls set with a tonic soda for 750 yen. The tonic soda tasted slightly sweet, like herbal medicine. The spring rolls had a black substance (anchovy) on the cheese inside. After finishing the meal, I tried a sea otter sake for 300 yen, which was a bit stronger than the tonic. I realized it was meant for vitality enhancement, but I had no use for it. Overall, the experience was interesting, but I didn't see anyone else dining there during my visit.

Located at the intersection of Reimon Street and Kokusai Street, there was a grilled eel restaurant called Yatsume Unagi that I had been curious about. Since it was still too early to go to an izakaya with my friends, I decided to stop by this place. Unfortunately, the grilled eel that I was looking forward to was not available, but I tried their "Otter Sake" instead, which was sweet and easy to drink. I'm not sure if it had any effect on recovering from fatigue, but it was enjoyable (laughs). I also received a souvenir of Yatsume Unagi's eel oil capsules. If I come back here again, I might try some other sake. Thank you for the meal.

I have always been intrigued by the delicious smell of grilled eel at the intersection of Kaminarimon Street and Kokusai Street in Asakusa. Finally, I decided to buy some and enjoy it at home. However, when I opened the package, I realized that the eel was very thin and had a strange smell. It was difficult to cut and seemed to resemble a snake. After struggling to remove it from the skewers, I took a bite and found it to be rubbery with a detergent-like taste. It turned out to be a type of eel used in Chinese medicine for nourishment. I regretted spending 1000 yen on this unusual eel.

Visited in the evening on August 10, 2015. Every time I go to Asakusa, I have been curious about this shop called Yatsume Unagi. Is it a restaurant serving grilled eel, or perhaps a pharmacy that deals with Chinese herbal medicine? The sign saying "Eat a skewer and boost your energy" drew me in, so I entered the shop. I decided to try the recommended items: grilled eel and raw liver. Unfortunately, the raw liver was sold out, so I started with the raw liver instead. It was like a red wine liquid with small grains of raw liver floating in it. I drank it all at once, but it didn't taste like much. Next, I tried the grilled eel. For 1000 yen, I received four skewers of grilled eel in the size of yakitori. The sweet and savory sauce on the grilled eel, smoked over charcoal, had a nice aroma. However, it didn't taste like eel at all. The texture was a bit chewy, similar to hormones. According to Wikipedia, it comes from jawless vertebrates, so it seems to be more of a medicinal food. Sommelier Masaya Tasaki mentioned on TV that it pairs well with wine, but I think it's more suitable as a drinking snack. If you eat it as a health supplement, it might actually taste good.

Wow! What is this? A snake!? Back in the Showa era when the "Nitantou" (Ryounkaku) was located around the intersection of Kaminarimon Street and Kokusai Street, my father, who was around 17 or 18 years old at the time, used to visit a snake shop in Asakusa to drink snake blood for nutrition because he was weak. As a child, I heard this story, which was quite frightening, and it made me believe that I needed to exercise and be healthy. Perhaps, that "snake" was not actually the "Yatsume Unagi" here! This shop is a traditional Chinese medicine store, but they also have a grilling station and seem to grill the eel here. And the "Yatsume Unagi Kabayaki" for one person is only 1000 yen, which is cheap! They also have an eat-in option, so I decided to try it inside the shop. The "Kabayaki" consists of four skewers of eel. The meat is firm with a chewy texture, almost like it's been dried before grilling. Compared to the typical Edomae-style eel, it's not particularly delicious... I still can't shake the feeling that I'm eating snake. My companion also ordered the "Yatsume Unagi Namaki" (eel liver), so I tried that too. It's the heart! And we also got some "Otosei Sake" as our drink. Seriously, spare me... (-_-;) I've been to a place called "Donbei" in Tsurumi before, where they served "Unadon" with a still-beating "heart." It didn't add any special flavor. In this case, even though it's called "raw," the eel liver doesn't move. It's served in red wine. Elderly customers come here to buy Chinese herbal medicine. They must be regulars, and they're probably healthy thanks to the Yatsume Unagi. This Yatsume Unagi shop near the intersection of Kaminarimon Street and Kokusai Street is quite unique.

I visited a restaurant called "Yatsume Unagi" in Asakusa, Tokyo. I ordered a serving of grilled eel and a cup of raw eel liver. The grilled eel was delicious, with a unique texture and flavor. The raw eel liver, marinated in red wine, was also tasty. Overall, the meal was satisfying and gave me the energy I needed for the next day's race. The restaurant is known for its eel dishes, which are a bit different from regular fish. I enjoyed the meal and would recommend it to others.

It seems that there is the only specialty eel restaurant in Japan located in Asakusa. This restaurant, "Yatsume Unagi Honpo," has a long history of about 90 years, and I remember dining there with my father sitting on chairs about 50 years ago, as it was said to be good for health. The restaurant still serves eel dishes, known as a medicinal herb pharmacy, and I decided to taste it again after a long time. As soon as I entered the restaurant, the female staff warned me, "We don't serve rice here." I was aware of this from the beginning, so it was not a problem, but it seems that many customers enter without knowing. In front of the store, a woman was grilling eel kabayaki, and a pleasant aroma filled the air. I ordered one serving of eel kabayaki for 1,000 yen and a Chinese medicinal wine called "Osmanthus Chen Wine" for 150 yen. The skewers came with four pieces, and they had a sweet and savory sauce similar to eel, so they paired well with Sansho pepper as a condiment. In reality, the texture of the eel was tougher than Kansai-style grilled eel, with a chewiness similar to grilled chicken liver. It wasn't the most delicious fish, but it seemed to be good for the eyes, as an article in the newspaper mentioned its effectiveness against floaters. I had two glasses of sweet medicinal wine to cleanse my palate and settled the bill. Inside the store, they also sold canned eel liver, with the same nostalgic yellow design as before. I was bid farewell by the staff, who had a somewhat indifferent attitude, as I left the store.

I noticed a prominent sign while passing by in my car a few times on my way to work. While waiting for my grilled dish, I tried the "Nama Kimo" sake cup with a refreshing red wine and two pieces of raw liver. I took a bite out of the raw liver out of curiosity and the strong raw smell spread throughout my mouth, it was intense! I recommend everyone to just drink it all at once (laughs). The "Kabayaki" had a wild texture and taste compared to eel. The "Kimo Yaki" tasted like grilled chicken liver, without the strong flavor like eel liver. Since it's a Chinese medicine focused restaurant, the "Yatsume Unagi" might also be of a similar nature.

Asakusa Sensoji Temple Street, heading west from Azumabashi to Kokusai Street, is the corner on the right where "Yatsume Unagi Honpo" is located. The roots of this place can be traced back to the late Meiji period when the Yatsume eel specialty wholesaler "Kajiya Shoten" in Nihonbashi opened the "Yatsume Shokudo" in Asakusa after the war. However, now it is located inside a Chinese herbal medicine shop, offering medicinal herbs and grilled Yatsume eel. While "Nishimura" in Sugamo sells Yatsume eel, this place is said to be the only Yatsume eel specialty shop in Japan. On Sunday mornings, before taking the children to Hanayashiki Amusement Park, I decided to stop by. Outside the store, they were grilling Yatsume eel. I entered the store and sat at a table in the back. I ordered the popular "Surging Vitality Set" (grilled Yatsume eel + Taisho Sanshen Wan Daimaru + Shanghai Jiuquan Daobo wine set). The grilled Yatsume eel is similar to grilled eel, coated with sweet and savory sauce and grilled over charcoal, and it was delicious. It had a stronger texture than grilled eel. The other two items in the set are Chinese herbal medicine, so they are not as delicious as the grilled eel, but they were easier to take than expected, without strong odors or bitterness. Taisho Sanshen Wan Daimaru is a nourishing tonic containing thirty-seven types of medicinal herbs. I broke open the white wax capsule, took out the Daimaru, and chewed it while taking it with hot water. Shanghai Jiuquan Daobo wine is a medicinal wine made from ten kinds of medicinal herbs extracted in glutinous rice wine, known in Taiwan and other places, effective for promoting blood circulation and nourishing the body. There were several customers in the store, all ordering grilled Yatsume eel, but some ordered multiple types of medicinal herbs alone. As it started to get crowded, I settled the bill and bought a box of six Taisho Sanshen Wan Daimaru for takeout before leaving the store. By the way, I tried this Taisho Sanshen Wan Daimaru at home and it really works well. The severe shoulder stiffness and leg swelling were relieved, and the fatigue was also reduced. I also found it easier mentally as I was able to sleep well at night. When I feel really tired, taking it for 2-3 days seems to be effective.

On a weekday night after 6:30 PM, I went to Asakusa to boost my spirits with some eel, but the restaurant I had in mind was closed. Then I remembered I had never tried "Yatsume Unagi" before. How many years, how many times had I passed by the front of that shop? Although it's not eel, if the goal is to boost my spirits, this might be more effective. I ordered... ★ Yatsume Unagi Kabayaki ¥1000 ★ Sansen Yakushu ¥500 The kabayaki had a delicious sauce. The Yatsume Unagi was like "dried sardines in soy sauce"? A firm, chewy texture. I didn't dislike it. I wanted a beer, but this shop only had medicinal liquor. The Sansen Yakushu was sweet and tasted like a stamina drink. Not very delicious, but it seemed like it would be effective. I finished eating and drinking quickly, only spending about 10 minutes in the shop. Somehow, I felt my energy surging... It made me feel empowered.

I moved from Kanda to Asakusa and decided to check out Moya Moya Summers. I suddenly had a craving for eel, so I decided to eat it for the second time in a row. When I was a child, my grandmother used to make me eat it because it was good for my health, but I had forgotten the taste, so I wanted to confirm it. It has a unique taste but it's delicious before being good for your health. I felt like having a beer, but they only serve poisonous snake liquor and traditional medicinal liquor, so I had no choice but to smile bitterly.

I wanted to try this place once but didn't have the courage. I had been staring at the computer screen for a long time and my eyes were really tired. There were rumors that this place is good for the eyes, so I decided to go in. I sat down and ordered some skewers. When asked if I wanted beer, they only had medicinal liquor available. I felt a bit awkward just asking, so I decided to order the "wolfberry tonic liquor" to improve my vision from tomorrow! The eel skewers were not the typical Japanese eel, but a different kind of eel. I was curious about the taste, and when the skewers arrived, there were four of them! I wanted beer or sake! I took a bite and it was firmer than I expected. It was more like pressing together the tail end of an eel. It wasn't delicious, but it wasn't bad either. It was like "medicine"! I quickly drank the wolfberry liquor, and I felt like my vision would be 20/20 tomorrow! When I asked the owner about the effects at the register, he said the effects were excellent, and many people come here before renewing their licenses. Thank you, sir. It was a unique experience. Oh! I feel like I can see better now! (laughs) But seriously, my eyes feel less tired the next day. I'm not sure if it's okay to write about this place here, but I summarized my experience with the eel skewers in my diary. If you're interested, please take a look.

Eighth Generation Eel Shop @ Asakusa Matelot, how about that? Click here for map and details Located on the commute route, I used to feel a sense of fear from the red liver hanging down from the eel's belly when I was a elementary school student (laughs). After half a century, I finally entered the shop thinking it should be fine now that I'm over 50. I had the grilled eel and liver to fight against my advancing presbyopia. The taste was quite sweet, and it made sense to have shichimi togarashi (Japanese seven-spice blend) on the table. I thought it would be nice to have it with beer, but unfortunately alcoholic beverages are not served. They offer various Chinese medicinal wines, such as Juzen Taiho-yu, but since I have tried most of them and they don't serve the purpose of cleansing the palate, I passed on them. Matelot, a French dish that I love, originally uses this eighth generation eel. Unfortunately, I haven't tried the Matelot made with eighth generation eel yet. Well, maybe my presbyopia will improve a bit? Eighth Generation Eel Shop (Asakusa (Tsukuba EXP)/Eel) ★★★★★ 5.0 supported by Location Touch Gourmet

Struggling to cross the intersection in Tahara Town under the scorching heat of the direct sunlight reflecting off the asphalt, I felt like I was about to collapse. The sign saying "Have a skewer to boost your energy" seemed like a lifesaver. The storefront didn't look like a traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy, and a pleasant smell was wafting around, which turned out to be the owner grilling charcoal at the front of the store. I wanted to get through the summer with the nutritious Yatsume eel rather than regular eel. I started to wander into the eat-in space at the back. I wanted to order a serving of grilled eel and grilled liver for 1000 yen, but the liver was already sold out. "What is 'raw liver'?" I asked the landlady. It's a drink with raw liver in red wine, 400 yen for a glass, and four skewers of grilled eel in one serving. I carefully examined the eel skewers, which looked like snake skin with a thin skin and flesh. I tried one skewer... What is this chewy texture? It feels like pork or chicken liver, but a little different. What is it? It has a chewy yet soft texture, very fish-like, with a wild taste and no strange flavor. The sauce is also delicious. I realized that there was no rice served with it. It didn't go well with it, so I thought it would be bitter when I chewed it, and I quickly drank it all, so the raw liver just tasted like wine. According to the PR television in the store, it was established at the end of the Meiji era, and the name of the store at that time was Yatsume Shokudo. Don't make me laugh. My liver might jump out... First, you should try it! Yatsume eel deserves more recognition.
