The name "Sichuan Dining" is enticing and the mapo tofu is incredibly tempting. I ordered the dan dan noodles and mini mapo don. The dan dan noodles have a perfect balance of spiciness and sesame flavor, delicious! The soup has a nice sesame taste. As for the mapo don, the size and the balance between rice and mapo sauce are excellent. If I had to choose, I would say the mapo don was more satisfying. Really delicious.

Today's lunch was at "Szechuan Shokudo KaRYU" located near Asakusabashi Station. The restaurant is a local Chinese place (photo 1). The second photo shows the lunch menu displayed outside the restaurant. I've passed by the restaurant many times on my way back from the station and finally had the chance to visit. I arrived just before the lunch rush around noon, and the restaurant was already about 70% full. They have a system where you buy a meal ticket from a machine outside the restaurant. After some deliberation, I chose the "Szechuan Mapo Tofu set meal (¥850)" as it looked appealing, along with the noodles and fried rice. Inside, I was seated at a table for two near the outer edge. It only took about 5 minutes from ordering for the food to be served (photo 3). The Mapo Tofu was authentic and of high quality. Despite being a local Chinese restaurant, the quality was impressive. It had a good level of spiciness, not overly hot but still flavorful, suitable for Japanese taste buds. The rice was refillable, and I had an extra serving. The soup was a gentle and slightly sweet tomato-flavored soup, which I wished was also refillable. By the time I finished eating and left the restaurant, there were already 2-3 people waiting, showing its popularity. The taste was great, the service was fast, and I could see why it's so popular. If you're looking to eat Chinese food around Asakusabashi Station, this place is definitely worth considering.

I ordered the evening set. You can choose a drink and two items. I ordered mara potatoes and fried chicken. There are 20 possible combinations with 4 types x 5 types. It's a good place for a casual drink, although it's a shame they don't accept credit cards.

I am crazy about tantanmen and mapo tofu. I was completely drawn in by this visual and dashed to the store on my bicycle. Surprisingly, it's not that crowded even during lunchtime. It might be a hidden gem that hasn't been discovered yet. I was sweating like crazy, but I couldn't stop eating. Rice is definitely a must-have!

Why is soup necessary (^_^;) The flavor is stimulating, the noodles are of my liking, it's not messy, and not cramped, so it's all good. The mapo noodles cost 880 yen and the flavored egg costs 100 yen. When I mustered up the courage to ask for "soupless," the response was "not possible." I just wanted the mapo tofu on top like in soupless tantanmen, instead of the meat miso. The dish consisted of plenty of soup (I want to believe it wasn't sarcastic), thin straight noodles, topped with mapo tofu. The taste was flavorful and very delicious! The atmosphere and service were lacking. There were many off-putting aspects, and the response to the soupless question was dismissive. The seating area was clean, but near the entrance, there was a pile of cardboard boxes. It's a shame because the seating was nice. Overall, the food is good even with soup, but being disregarded leaves a negative impression. I'll give it a moderate rating. Thank you for the meal.

Mapo men! Delicious. 880 yen for lunch! You can feel various spices, it's spicy but not too much, just right! It's quite filling and nice! They also have Mapo set meal and tantanmen, which look interesting! In the evening, there are only 3 types of noodles, but there are plenty of stir-fried dishes! However, the only beer available seems to be Suntory's PSB zero-carb beer. There are plenty of highballs and other alcoholic drinks! Asakusabashi on Sundays can be difficult for lunch, so this restaurant is also a good option to consider.

Sichuan Dining KARyu's Niboshi Chinese Soba - 780 yen. The rich soup blended with niboshi broth is served hot and easy to drink without any strong flavors. The slightly thin straight noodles pair well with the soup. The chashu melts in your mouth and whets your appetite. The restaurant is clean and provides a comfortable dining space. They also offer authentic dishes like Mapo Tofu set meal. Today I went to Asakusabashi. I visited "Sichuan Restaurant KARyu" for the first time in a while. It seems like the menu has changed since it first opened. I decided to try the recommended item C, the "Authentic Mala Hot Pot Set Meal". Even though it said "spicy" on the menu, I of course chose it to be extra spicy and numbing. The top layer had pork belly and beef tripe, while the bottom had bean sprouts, wood ear mushrooms, dried tofu, and more hidden underneath. It was surprisingly loaded with ingredients. Actually, there was quite a lot of rice too, and for me, half of it was enough. The mala hot pot had a strong flavor of chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns, making it spicy and numbing. The crunchy texture of the wood ear mushrooms was great, and the dried tofu added volume, which was very satisfying. It was oily, but no regrets after eating this. (laughs) Rather, it was welcomed. Oh, I'm so full now. It seems like this place turns into a regular Chinese izakaya at night. I want to try it at night too. (Is this a must-try!?)

While waiting for my partner, I couldn't resist having a drink and ended up having a gourmet burger. Despite that, we still felt like we hadn't had enough to drink. So, we hopped on the Asakusa Line to Asakusabashi. There, we stumbled upon a Chinese restaurant with a sign that read "Mega Highball for 400 yen." Wow, that's so cheap. We instantly decided to go in. Although we weren't hungry anymore, we felt like we had to order something, so we got shrimp chili and dumplings. Of course, we also ordered the Mega Highball. And when the Mega Highball arrived, it was huge! It was amazing. Mega is the best. To be more precise, it's "tera" (meaning super) best! First, we raised a toast with the Mega Highball. It's scary how easy it is to drink multiple Highballs. I finished mine quickly. So, I ordered a second Mega Highball. While we were at it, the pan-fried dumplings arrived. They were juicy, with meat juice bursting out. They were delicious even without dipping them in sauce. Next, we had the shrimp chili. It was slightly spicy and went well with the alcohol. The shrimp was plump and tasty. Eating shrimp chili at a Chinese restaurant is just different! Overall, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Oh, I'm going to gain weight. That's the only problem, haha. Maybe I should go back for the shrimp chili. Their lunch menu looks delicious too. Thank you for the meal! #AsakusabashiGourmet #TokyoGourmet #SichuanRestaurantKaryu #WantToConnectWithFoodies

・It's a somewhat delicate situation, can't let your guard down... On days when you avoid Ameyoko and Akihabara, head east to Asakusabashi - "Sichuan Shokudo", might be worth checking out. This place used to be "Handmade Dining and Bar Bakaru" which opened in September 2020, but now it's "Sichuan Shokudo KARyu" after about a year. It seems to have gained some popularity with only 9 reviews as of April this year. It originally was in Chiba City, Wakaba Ward, and then moved. A familiar area, albeit a bit thin, "Menya KARyu". What was reassuring was the change in the name from the previous "Handmade Dining and Bar Bakaru". The new direction of "Sichuan Shokudo KARyu". The management is different from Bakaru, which is a relief. The previous store and the current one both have "KARyu" in the name, so it seems like there's a connection. The menu is displayed with a ticket vending machine, making it easy to understand. Lately, there's been an increased sense of caution towards new restaurants; you can try noodles and fried rice, a thoughtful menu. Recommended items include A: Chinese soba with daily mini rice, B: Authentic Sichuan mapo tofu set meal, C: Drooling chicken cold noodles. Without hesitation, I chose "Recommended A" at the ticket vending machine. Before issuing the ticket, I asked, "Can I have the noodles firm?" OK. A few minutes later, the "Chinese soba with eatable chili oil fried rice" arrived. First, the ramen, Chinese soba. The bowl has a thick, earthenware feel, which may cause it to cool down later. The noodles have a texture that is not bad but not great, a typical Chinese restaurant noodle perhaps. I wasn't really in the mood for it, feeling somewhat sympathetic towards the restaurant lately. The chili oil fried rice was surprisingly delicious, with a strong fried flavor - even just this was satisfying. I tried to find other fried rice options, but only the "Today's recommended mini fried rice" was available. The other rice menu items were "Mini Mala Mapo Don" and "Mini Lu Rou Rice". The firmness of the rice was good, so other rice dishes might be tasty too. I wanted more of this fried rice; it was that good. Some didn't feel like drinking the soup from the Chinese soba, maybe it didn't match the texture of the noodles. It seemed like focusing on the fried rice as the main dish would have been a better choice. I wanted a set with half fried rice and half ramen. That's all for now.

I watched sumo wrestling in both countries and didn't like the crowded train, so I ended up drifting to Asakusabashi. I was drawn to a fascinating local pub under the bridge with Sichuan characters, and entered without any prior research. The sign outside offering a beer + 2 dishes set for around 1700 yen also caught my attention. Inside the clean restaurant, I noticed many posters promoting low-carb options. When the beer I ordered arrived, it turned out to be a low-carb beer, which, honestly, didn't taste good to me as a Kirin fan. However, the arrival of the seasoned dumplings changed my mind - they were incredibly delicious without needing any additional sauce. The next dish, the mapo tofu, was also amazing with white rice. In the end, it was a surprisingly delicious restaurant that made up for the initial beer mistake. Although it's a location I may not visit often, the Asakusabashi area seems interesting. I also realized that I should pay more attention to the brand of beer before ordering in the future. Additionally, I couldn't use PayPay at this establishment. Note: The beer was called "Perfect Beer" and had zero carbs. It seems like this beer is recommended by Tabelog, and you can search for restaurants where you can drink it.

Sichuan Restaurant KARyu - Authentic Sichuan Mapo Tofu Set Meal for 880 yen. This place offers genuine Sichuan cuisine with a spicy kick from the Sichuan pepper. They take pride in using quality ingredients like shiitake mushrooms and beef, even sourcing whole cow feet for their dishes. Near Asakusabashi Station, I was drawn in by a sign for Sichuan cuisine, but ended up ordering a set of Chinese soba and seafood fried rice, which was not Sichuan at all, haha. The Chinese soba was simple but tasty, with a Chinese-style chashu. It had a good flavor, maybe with star anise. The seafood fried rice had large ingredients and was satisfying to eat, delicious.

JR Asakusabashi Station West Exit, just behind Tenryu, there was a Sichuan restaurant called KARyu that had opened. This place, right in front of the station, often sees changes in restaurants. Last time, I visited when it was a handmade dining bar called Bakaru. On this day, I was planning to stop by the standing bar Den Den Kushi across the street, but it was crowded and there was no room to enter. In front of our shop, there was a signboard saying "Grand Opening Service - Jim Beam Highball for 200 yen, as much as you want." ...If the highball is 200 yen, it's cheaper than Den Den Kushi. Thinking that, I decided to enter here. Inside the shop, there are tables lined up on both sides of the central aisle, with 14 seats each. The evening drink set is a bit expensive at 1,680 yen, so I had a Jim Beam Highball (200 yen) and meat juice grilled dumplings (399 yen). The meat juice grilled dumplings are round and bite-sized, with a juicy meat filling when you bite into them. I enjoyed them with homemade chili oil. Highball and dumplings for 599 yen! This is very satisfying! Since I was here, I ordered a Mega Highball (400 yen) as well! The Mega size has a satisfying amount to drink. The grilled green peppers with century egg and black vinegar sauce (499 yen) looked delicious, so I ordered it. However, what came out was different from the menu photo... a bit disappointing.

Today, I went to Asakusabashi. There are so many lunch options here, especially a lot of Chinese restaurants. I was considering going to "Togenkyo" for their 1st-anniversary celebration, but I noticed a new restaurant had opened since my last visit, so I decided to try that instead. The place is called "Sichuan Shokudo KARyu". They have a ticket machine at the entrance where you purchase your meal ticket. I was torn between the Dan Dan noodles and the soupless Dan Dan noodles, but then I saw they had Marla beef noodles, so I went with that. I asked for it to be spicy, and they even checked if I was okay with it being extra spicy, which I was. The dish arrived with a generous amount of beef shank on top of the noodles, hidden under a pile of vegetables. It looked like a mountain of beef shank, and although it was a bit pricier at 1080 yen, it was definitely worth it. The noodles were straight and slightly soft, typical of Chinese noodles. The soup had a strong aroma of chili peppers and was spicy but not overwhelmingly so. The beef shank was tender and flavorful, and overall, I really enjoyed the dish. I found this Marla beef noodles to be quite impressive. What a great addition to the neighborhood! Can't wait to go back.

On a regular day at 1 pm, I visited the restaurant alone. There were 4 groups of customers already seated at the tables, with about half of the tables occupied. You have to buy a ticket outside the restaurant using cash only. Unfortunately, they don't serve alcohol. The mapo tofu noodles cost 880 yen, but there was very little tofu and minced meat in it. It also had bean sprouts. The broth was watery, with spiciness from chili oil and Sichuan pepper. The noodles seemed to be flat and not to my liking. Overall, it was not my favorite. Thank you for the meal.

Visited Sichuan Restaurant KARyu in Asakusabashi, ordered mapo noodles, pickled cabbage fish, pan-fried dumplings, and seafood fried rice for lunch. It was our second stop for day drinking in Asakusabashi. Initially planned to exchange large bills at the ticket machine outside, but ended up entering the restaurant upon learning they offer other Chinese dishes as well. Enjoyed pickled cabbage fish and dumplings with ¥200 highball drinks during their open campaign. The pickled cabbage fish was delicious with flavorful white fish. The mapo noodles were spicy and authentic, while the seafood fried rice was moist and tasty. The restaurant is run by Chinese owners and offers authentic Sichuan cuisine. However, the menu on the top left of the ticket machine was for a mysterious "boiled fish ramen" shop.

Marara tantanmen (800) at Asakusabashi No.1 Ramen Shop Tenryu, located next to a building with shisha bars and snack shops where tenants frequently change, a new restaurant has opened on the first floor. There were several types of ramen available, but I chose the marara tantanmen. Surprisingly, it had plenty of vegetables, which made me happy as a vegetable lover. The noodles were firm and the broth was spicy, which was also good.

Lunch break on February 16th. On my way to have lunch at "Chinese Restaurant Jin" in Asakusabashi, I happened to come across a new Sichuan cuisine restaurant. The name of the restaurant is "Sichuan Shokudo KAR yu", and they are offering a daily special for 500 yen, with today being the last day featuring "Mala Tan Tan Men". The regular price is 800 yen, so it's a good deal with a 300 yen discount. I arrived around 1:30 PM, and there were about 5 customers already inside. Everyone was ordering the "Mala Tan Tan Men", and there was one big guy who also got an extra side of rice. My "Mala Tan Tan Men" arrived quickly. The noodles were thick and straight, with a slightly pale color and a firm texture. The soup had a strong sesame flavor, with a rich and spicy taste that made my tongue tingle. The combination of the spicy and numbing sensation with the sweet sesame flavor was intense, and I had to ask for some water. The dish also included cabbage, bean sprouts, ground meat, and green onions. Overall, it was a satisfying meal with a decent portion size. I also tried the "Mapo Men" the next day, and it was delicious as well. Looking forward to visiting this restaurant again in the future.

Had lunch at Sichuan restaurant KARyu. Purchased a ticket for the Mala Tan Tan Men (800 yen) at the ticket machine and went inside. The Mala Tan Tan Men had firm straight noodles with a good chewiness, and it was spicy and quite delicious.
