On a scorching hot Sunday, I lounged at home while my wife made some snacks to enjoy with sake and caught up on the missed episodes of this season's TV dramas on Tver. Feeling like stepping out for a bit in the early evening, I decided to visit the popular ramen shop "Kagari" in Ginza after having visited "Hachigo" for two consecutive days. As expected, there was a huge line with about a 2-hour wait time. It seems like all the popular shops in Ginza have become accustomed to having a 2-hour wait time... So, I headed to "Kyushu Jangara," a chain ramen shop located in Akasaka near my office and in Ginza near my home. Surprisingly, it was my first visit, as I had been avoiding it due to its chain store-like image compared to Ippudo. It was a Sunday around 5 pm, and I waited for about 10 minutes before placing my order. I ordered the "Bonshan Zenbu-iri" for 1430 yen, which includes toppings like seasoned egg, pork slices, and mentaiko. I chose the Hakata-style creamy "rich tonkotsu soup" with thin noodles and asked for them to be cooked "firm." The soup was rich and delicious. I also tried the "Karabon" for 1490 yen, which is the "Bonshan" with added spiciness. It had a rich and slightly spicy flavor with a blend of over ten types of spices. Both the "Bonshan" and "Karabon" had thin Hakata-style tonkotsu noodles, which I finished in no time. Of course, I ordered an extra serving of noodles for 150 yen and enjoyed using the various condiments on the table, such as pickled ginger, extra sauce for the noodles, and vinegar. Personally, I found the "Zenbu-iri" set to be relatively expensive, so instead of ordering extra noodles, I thought of trying the rice for 130 yen next time and creating my original "Bonshan donburi" with seasoned egg, pork slices, mentaiko, pickled ginger, and extra sauce. The pork slices were delicious and had a generous portion that could easily go with a bowl of rice. The Kyushu tonkotsu ramen at this popular spot in Ginza, where Keanu Reeves recently visited, is undeniably tasty!
