I had the Takamaru set meal. The lunch menu apparently changes daily. I didn't inquire about whether the fish in the set meal varies daily, but I expressed my desire to have sea urchin, and they checked with the kitchen for me. As a result, they agreed to include sea urchin for me. Thank you very much. I'm not sure if it was traded for something else. The taste and portion size were good. The interior of the restaurant is like a typical fish-themed izakaya where you can't really relax. It's not the most relaxing atmosphere, but it's not bad for enjoying decent sashimi.

The short business hours made it my second visit, but I was surprised by how big the rock oysters were! It's not the most cost-effective restaurant, but there are plenty of oysters in the shellfish hot pot! I regret ordering a bowl first without knowing that it could be made into porridge... Next time I go, I will definitely have the porridge!

After making a reservation directly at Shin-Okubo for next month, I took a short break here. I tried the "Unagi Toro Don" for ¥1200, which is topped with eel, green onions, and seaweed. I also had the Takamatsu barrel sake, known as "Takashimizu." The temperature of the sake was a bit off, but it's a good place to relax and enjoy. I left Seibu Shinjuku Station and headed towards Okubo on Kotaki Bridge Street. There is a popular seafood izakaya on the corner. There are three stores in the Nishi-Shinjuku area, and this fourth store is my favorite. I went in the evening this day. I ordered the daily set and a draft beer. First, the draft beer. It was refreshing with the cold beer. Since it was not during meal times, the food came out quickly. I had a white fish tempura and a seafood bowl. The white fish tempura was delicious, although I forgot what kind of fish it was. The beer went down smoothly. The seafood bowl had negitoro and kichiji. The negitoro was consistently delicious. The sashimi was also delicious with a good amount of fat. The seafood bowl had a slightly small amount of rice, which was just right. A delicious seafood bowl and white fish tempura. I was satisfied with the beer and the meal!

Walking through the streets, we arrive at "Takamaru Sengyo-ten 4th Branch," a seafood restaurant in Shin-Okubo. It's 3:00 PM when we arrive, a bit past lunchtime! The place seems less crowded at this time, with customers coming and going. The interior has six tables lined up in the elongated space, indicating a high turnover of customers! Looking at the menu, here's what we ordered: [Menu] - Hoppy Set x2 - Happy Naka x4 - Grilled Fatty Hokke - Crab and Scallop Bukkake Salad - Water Eggplant - Appetizer - Green Onion Soup We ordered both white and black hoppy drinks again! Cheers to the third stop! How many more can we visit today? [Grilled Fatty Hokke] The fatty Hokke fish has a light, flavorful flesh with a perfect amount of saltiness. The bones are cut in half, making them crispy and delicious. [Crab and Scallop Bukkake Salad] We initially thought of ordering sashimi, but the assorted sashimi platter seemed a bit pricey! So, we opted for a salad with crab and boiled scallops. The dressing is a Japanese onion soy sauce dressing. [Water Eggplant] Delicious water eggplant, perfect for this season! A light pickled dish with a crispy texture, great as a drinking snack. [Appetizer] Is this a clam? After being boiled and chilled, the meat is firm and easily comes out of the shell. The broth is light, with a chewy texture and delicious liver flavor. [Green Onion Soup] Miso soup made with fish bones and green onions. The aroma of green onions complements the fish bone flavor perfectly. A delicious soup with a great balance of flavors. [Highlight of the Visit] - Green Onion Soup! Exiting Shinjuku Station's west exit, passing through Ome Kaido, and arriving at Kotakibashi Street, you will find this restaurant at the corner of Kitashinjuku Hyakunincho, heading towards Okubo. This is one of the three seafood izakayas in Nishi-Shinjuku. Among them, I particularly like the set meal menu at the 4th store, so I often visit. On this day, it was early evening. Lunchtime had already passed, but you can still enjoy set meals and sets in the evening. I ordered my favorite "blue fish set". As I leisurely drank my beer, the blue fish set arrived. The blue fish bowl of the day included mackerel, bonito, and whitebait. The main dish was fried horse mackerel. I started with the horse mackerel fry to accompany my beer. There were also side dishes and rolled omelette, which were perfect with beer. And then the blue fish bowl. I dipped the sashimi in soy sauce and savored it. Both the bonito and mackerel were delicious. It was a delight to enjoy the sashimi with a refill of beer. After finishing the horse mackerel fry and beer, I focused on the bowl. I drizzled a little soy sauce on the whitebait and mixed it with rice. Overall, the meal was quite filling, and although I left a little rice, I was satisfied.

Takamaru set meal for 1200 yen. It's a luxurious serving, isn't it? Rice and miso soup are free refills. The fish is cut into large pieces, but it's too big to eat comfortably. It's the selling point of this place, so it can't be helped... Compared to the past, the "wow factor" is gone. There were shrimp and tamagoyaki, but it feels like there's less now. The prices have also gone up slightly. The first and second stores are nearby, but the third store is the most relaxing ☝️ I come here when I want to eat fish. I'll visit again while enjoying a drink!

Seafood izakaya in Nishi-Shinjuku with several branches. On this day, I had lunch. You order and pay as soon as you enter the restaurant. I hesitated but ordered the special set with a draft beer. The beer arrived first and was deliciously cold. Then came the special set - a seafood bowl and shrimp tempura. The seafood bowl had scallops, salmon, salmon roe, and minced tuna with green onions. Quite luxurious. I ordered another beer and started with the shrimp tempura. The texture of the shrimp and the dipping sauce were delicious. Then onto the seafood bowl. I started with the scallops, which were tasty and had a good texture. I'm not a big fan of salmon, but this one was mild and went well with the rice. I enjoyed some sashimi with my beer, but once the beer was finished, I focused on the seafood bowl. Every fish went well with the rice, but the salmon roe was the highlight! Mixing it with the rice was so tasty! Even though I was quite full from the tempura, I couldn't resist the delicious salmon roe and finished every last bite. The lunch was a bit pricey, but with the variety of dishes and satisfying portion size, it was worth it!

I chose the sashimi set lunch for 1,200 yen (tax included). As you can see in the photo, there was a generous amount of rice. I didn't say anything about the rice size, but it was overflowing. The sashimi was fresh and each piece was thick! It also came with sashimi soy sauce, which was a nice touch for someone from Kyushu like me. Overall, it was a very satisfying sashimi lunch in Nishi-Shinjuku!

When you head towards Okubo from Seibu Shinjuku Station along Kotakibashi Street, you will find this restaurant on the corner. It is a seafood izakaya with three locations in Nishi-Shinjuku. I visited for a late lunch and decided to order the blue fish set because I was craving blue fish. I paid at the entrance before being seated. While waiting for the food, I quenched my thirst with a draft beer. The blue fish set included a blue fish rice bowl and two pieces of horse mackerel fry. The mackerel fry was small but there were two pieces, making it quite a generous portion. I started with the blue fish rice bowl, which came in a bucket-style bowl with plenty of boiled whitebait, horse mackerel, and sardine sashimi. I drizzled soy sauce over the whitebait and dipped the sashimi in ginger soy sauce before eating. The blue fish rice bowl was delicious. Next, I tried the horse mackerel fry. I dipped it in tartar sauce and it was crispy and tasty, perfect with beer. I finished the beer with the mackerel fry and focused on the blue fish rice bowl. However, there was also a rolled omelette, leftover mackerel fry, and fish head soup. It was quite a substantial meal, but I managed to finish everything. This restaurant is really delicious!

The menu is more extensive than the other two stores! Takamaru has always friendly staff, and sometimes they are flexible with the menu, and the portions are incredibly generous. I really love this place. The sashimi is surprisingly thick. The volume does not match the price in a good way! I will continue to recommend it!

During the long weekend, I decided to have a meal with my old school friends. Being on a tight budget due to loans and children's education expenses, we wanted a place that didn't serve much meat but had good fish options and allowed us to enjoy some drinks. After some consideration, we chose this place, located about a 10-minute walk from Shinjuku or just 2 minutes from Okubo. The interior was like a refurbished fish market, giving off a lively atmosphere. We made sure to make a reservation this time, as the place was packed. We ordered directly from the staff, starting with a toast with a glass of draft beer. The appetizer was a simmered shellfish dish, which really impressed us. We also ordered a sashimi platter, fried horse mackerel, and other fresh fish dishes, all of which were delicious and had a nice sweetness to them. The fish was really tasty. We mainly drank hoppy beer and had a great time. Although there was an option for all-you-can-drink, we ended up spending around 4500 yen per person. With the increasing number of inbound tourists, I recommend making a reservation on weekends to avoid any disappointments.

I visited the 4th branch for the first time. It was almost full, but I had made a reservation so I was seated right away. Compared to the 1st branch, the interior of the restaurant felt a bit noisier, probably due to its larger size. The seating was at large tables divided into semi-private sections. The variety of sashimi was extensive, with thick cuts providing a satisfying experience. The crab cream croquette was packed with crab and very rich. It was quite large and difficult to pick up with chopsticks, but I enjoyed it until the last bite. The "namerou" had a mix of various fish, with a mild flavor making it easy to eat compared to just horse mackerel alone. The style of eating it with seaweed was also innovative. This restaurant is famous for seafood in Shinjuku, and it's understandable why it's so popular. I would like to visit regularly.

Sometimes I use this restaurant which offers good value for lunch. Instead of eating sashimi thinly and elegantly, you can enjoy thick and hearty slices here. This time, I had the daily set which included a seafood bowl, Megikari fried chicken, two side dishes, miso soup, and pickles. The seafood was all delicious, but the rice was just okay. The Megikari fried chicken was very tasty. The two side dishes and pickles were average. Overall, considering the good value for money, this place is recommended for those looking to eat sashimi and fish cheaply.

Takamaru Sengyo-ten is popular for its delicious sashimi, and there are multiple stores in this area. I visited around 4 pm, so I was able to enter easily. I ordered the Takamaru set meal (sashimi set) for 1200 yen. The sashimi looks like a mountain in a bucket, but there is actually not that much because there is ice underneath. It's nice that it doesn't get lukewarm until the end. The slices are thick and the freshness and taste are as good as reputed. However, it feels like I came just to eat sashimi. The rice is hard and not tasty, and the miso soup is average. The first serving had hardly any ingredients, but when I tried getting seconds, there were quite a few. It seems a bit random (laughs). Considering the content, it's not that cheap, and there are no side dishes or salad in the set meal, so my satisfaction level was low. I might come back if I just want to eat sashimi. It's just past 1 pm and the seats are available, so I enter the restaurant and order, paying in advance. I consider getting the daily special set, but opt for the special set instead. I also order a cold beer. I receive a number and take a seat at the back. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. I start with the chilled beer, which tastes especially good drinking in the afternoon. As I leisurely enjoy my beer, the special set arrives. A lavish seafood bowl in a bucket, surrounded by ikura, turban shell, negitoro, yellowtail, salmon, etc. The tempura consists of shrimp tempura and shirako. I start with the tempura. The shirako is rich, creamy, and delicious! It goes perfectly with the beer. I order another beer. The shrimp tempura is firm and tasty. Now, onto the seafood bowl. I dip the sashimi in soy sauce with wasabi. Every piece of sashimi is delicious. I like to drizzle soy sauce on the ikura and negitoro. The rice goes well with both dishes. Among the sashimi, the turban shell is particularly tasty. Its crunchy texture is enjoyable. Additionally, there are side dishes like tamagoyaki and hijiki. The meal is satisfying and delicious, perfect for a lunchtime drink. This is the best!

I went to Takamaru three days in a row (lol) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and because I avoided the lunchtime rush, I was able to be seated right away. They have a wide variety of menu options and you can enjoy fresh seafood. The donburi bowls are a bit on the smaller side, so men might find them a little lacking in quantity. Highly recommended!
