On February 1st, the famous Hiroshima okonomiyaki restaurant "Momiji-ya" in Iidabashi opened its second branch in Kanda Awajicho. The location is a 1-minute walk from Awajicho Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, 3 minutes from Ogawamachi Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line, and 5-6 minutes from Shin-Ochanomizu Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line. The restaurant is open from 11:30 to 14:00 (last order at 13:45) and from 16:00 to 22:00 (last order at 21:00), closed on Mondays. The reviewer visited on a Sunday around 17:10 with a friend, sitting at the counter. They ordered grapefruit sour, vinegar sour, and two highball drinks. The menu includes various okonomiyaki options, teppanyaki dishes, yakisoba/udon, and appetizers. The reviewer enjoyed the Momiji-ya Special okonomiyaki, which was rich in seafood, and was impressed by the delicious yakisoba that was moist and flavorful. The pork belly and shiso roll was also a favorite, and the overall dining experience was excellent. The reviewer plans to visit the original branch in Iidabashi as well.

On Wednesday, we visited "Momijiya" for a social gathering! The location is around the area between Ogawa-cho and Iwamoto-cho, and we walked there from Shin-Ochanomizu. The restaurant seemed to have moved or opened a new branch, as it is now located on the first floor of a building. The interior was clean with windows, and the tables had glass tops embedded with IH heaters! Surprisingly, all the grilled dishes were cooked on the iron plate counter at the back. We enjoyed delicious Hiroshima-style grilled dishes with close friends and had a great time together. Thank you for the meal!

I ordered a course which included marinated squid, jellyfish salad, ginger stir-fried eggplant, and pork rolls, but it felt like it was slightly lacking. The taste was excellent, especially the marinated squid. The photo attached is of the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki that came after. Since I felt it was not enough, I added grilled mushrooms. I'm not sure if it was a good deal, but I feel like ordering a la carte might be better than the course menu!

My wife requested Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at 3:00 PM, so I looked up a restaurant that opens at 4:00 PM on Tabelog and visited it. There was another branch in Iidabashi, and it seemed to be the second one in Tokyo. When I arrived at the restaurant around 4:30 PM, there were no other customers yet, and I was seated at the counter, eagerly waiting to see it being cooked in front of me. We had grilled squid, grilled green onions, pork belly and shiso roll, okonomiyaki with soba noodles and squid tempura, and kimchi yakisoba. Oh, eating freshly cooked food is the best. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again.

I visited a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant called "Momiji-ya Kanda branch" on a weekday in July 2023, around 12:00 pm. Located about a 2-minute walk from Awajicho Station, the restaurant was a popular spot with a cozy interior and around 4 customers already seated. I ordered the "daily special" okonomiyaki for ¥1,380 from the lunch menu. The dish arrived after a 10-minute wait, and it contained turban shell and squid. I added green onions as a topping, and the okonomiyaki was served with sauce and seaweed, giving it a simple yet delicious flavor. The okonomiyaki was easy to eat, with a good balance of cabbage sweetness and a generous amount of turban shell and squid. The turban shell was quite impressive in size. I added extra Okonomi sauce, mayonnaise, and chili powder to enhance the flavor. The soba noodles had a nice umami taste, and the overall okonomiyaki was mild and enjoyable. The combination of vegetable and seafood flavors was delightful. At ¥1,380, the price was reasonable considering the quality of ingredients. Overall, I had a relaxing lunch enjoying a high-quality Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at "Momiji-ya" in Awajicho. It was a great find for a convenient and delicious okonomiyaki spot.

A Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant near Ogawa-cho Station. My colleague and I visited around 1 pm to avoid the peak hours. The restaurant, with about 30 seats, had around 10 customers. The interior was clean and tidy. We chose the pork okonomiyaki from the lunch menu, which also included soba or udon noodles. We opted for soba. It took a while to cook, but when it arrived at our table, it was piping hot. The okonomiyaki was cut into bite-sized pieces and was delicious, with well-steamed cabbage and flavorful sauce. The thick, well-cooked pork was also tasty. Despite being with my colleague, we both ate in silence, savoring the flavors. I would definitely like to come back for lunch and try other items on the menu.

I always used to go to the Iidabashi main store, but I found out that there is also a branch in Kanda, so I went there.
Taste/Food:
I ordered the usual Nikudama soba for 950 yen. The characteristic sticky wheat flour dough of Momijiya Iidabashi main store remains the same, and personally, I couldn't tell much of a difference in taste. One of the good things about Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki is the perfect crunchy texture of the cabbage, and at this store, you can also enjoy this unique texture of Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. Just like the main store, the Kanda branch also served delicious food.
Service/Atmosphere:
The interior of the store is spacious, bright, and comfortable to use. The seats are also quite spacious, allowing you to relax and enjoy your meal.

I had homemade okonomiyaki last week. It was pretty good, but still not perfect. So, I decided to visit a restaurant to have some delicious okonomiyaki. I remembered how good the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki was at Momijiya in Iidabashi, so I thought this place might be good too. And indeed, the okonomiyaki here was delicious without a doubt. The restaurant was comfortably cool with air conditioning, and having hot okonomiyaki was just perfect. They were showing a Carp baseball game on TV in the restaurant.

Located between Ogawa-cho, Awajicho, and Akihabara stations, this area still retains its old town charm. Despite opening just this year, it was relatively easy to make a reservation at Momiji-ya, a well-known Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant. I was a bit worried that the restaurant might be empty, but when I arrived, it was packed and bustling. While the flavors of the okonomiyaki dishes all seemed quite similar due to the sauce, the cost performance was great at 13,250 yen for four people, including two beers each.

I went for lunch on a regular day and had the Meatball for 950 yen and the daily special (clams and squid) for 1380 yen. They were served hot on a hot plate. The cabbage inside was also hot, but the flavor seemed weak or watery, giving an overall bland and dull feeling. Towards the end, I got a little bored. The service from the staff was efficient and pleasant.

I revisited the restaurant after making a reservation for 6:30 pm on a weekday. All the seats were reserved except for the ones that were already occupied. It seems like making a reservation even on weekdays is a good idea. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the staff, including the manager, were very welcoming. The menu included dishes like Hiroshima vegetable kimchi, Hiroshima vegetables, oyster oil, squid, Tonpei cheese, squid tempura, sausages, Momijiya special grilled udon, okonomiyaki with squid tempura and meatball udon, okonomiyaki with squid tempura and meatball soba, draft beer, lemon sour, highball, and Kamosuru sake.

I searched for a place where I could slowly drink during the day and enjoy okonomiyaki. I had visited the Iidabashi branch a long time ago, but I didn't know there was a Kanda branch. That's because it opened in February this year. I visited around 2 pm on the weekend, thinking that the lunch peak was probably over. However, the restaurant was almost full, with only two seats available at the counter. I had dishes like Hiroshima vegetables for 480 yen, Teppanyaki mix (squid, shrimp, scallop, clam) for 1780 yen, Tonpei-yaki cheese for 1050 yen, Pork and shiso roll for 780 yen, Nikudama udon for 980 yen, Nikudama soba with squid tempura for 1130 yen, Plum wine soda for 550 yen, Kamosuru for 720 yen, Lemon sour for 550 yen, and more. The restaurant was clean, the manager was very friendly, and I enjoyed my meal slowly and comfortably.

The restaurant was about 80% full around noon, but started to empty out before 1pm. They offer a special dish called "Momijiya Special" for 2180 yen, which includes squid tempura and Okonomiyaki sauce. The Okonomiyaki sauce is also available on the table. When it comes to Hiroshima, you think of Okonomiyaki. The dish consists of separately cooked eggs and noodles, sandwiched between egg and batter, with shredded cabbage and broth inside. The dish has a lot of moisture and lacks a crunchy texture, but the bottom batter is thin and chewy. The yakisoba is made with steamed thin noodles, providing a soft texture. The portion of yakisoba is quite generous. The udon is also soft. The sauce has a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. The "Tonpei Yaki Cheese" dish for 1050 yen is highly recommended, with soft eggs and gooey cheese creating a delightful combination. The batter is also chewy, creating a gooey texture in the mouth.

Went to Akihabara with a group of guys, but it was too crowded to go to Yabusoba in Awajicho, so we luckily managed to get a reservation at a nearby okonomiyaki restaurant. The place was packed with reserved customers, but we were able to get in because it was still early. I had the pork and noodle okonomiyaki with oysters added. It was delicious! I was debating whether to order the mamakari (a type of okonomiyaki with squid) but decided not to since I was the only one who would eat it. Anyway, beer and okonomiyaki are the best! Although it's a flour-based dish, it's different from Osaka-style okonomiyaki - the Hiroshima style has less flour and lots of cabbage, which I like. Delicious! After we finished, they said let's do the ritual of opening the review box before we leave. Apparently, it's a thing. One Piece cards. Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at Momijiya Kanda branch. The G7 Hiroshima Summit has ended. This summit was significant not only because it was held in Hiroshima, a place with a unique history, but also because it aimed to strengthen cooperation with the Global South, inviting some countries from that region. What was even more surprising was the unexpected visit of President Zelensky of Ukraine, who had initially planned to participate remotely. This unexpected visit, along with Prime Minister Kishida's visit to Ukraine, has led to speculation about a rise in the cabinet's approval rating and the possibility of dissolution. However, there are also tensions within the ruling coalition, creating a somewhat uncertain situation. Shifting focus to the world of food, the Japanese summit provided a great opportunity to promote Japanese cuisine, with a selection of dishes from all over the country being served, including Hiroshima's famous oysters. Among them, Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki received positive feedback from the international press attending the summit. On this day, I traveled to the Awajicho area to try Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at a newly opened restaurant. The restaurant, run by the company Daigo, is the second branch of a well-known Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant called "Momiji-ya." The owner, O-san, originally from Hiroshima, opened the first branch in Iidabashi in 1980 and later expanded to other locations. The restaurant has a long history and is known as a gathering place for Carp fans. The interior was crowded when I arrived for a late lunch, but I was able to find a seat at the counter without much wait. The menu is simple, offering only three types of okonomiyaki with the option to add noodles. I ordered the basic option with meat. The staff, led by the head chef, efficiently managed the busy restaurant.

"I have been to Momijiya in Iidabashi many times, but this was my first visit to the Kanda branch. I wonder if the taste is as good as the one in Iidabashi."

In Kanda, there is a new "Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant" which is closed for a break on weekdays but open continuously on weekends. They mainly have table seating, but there are also 6 counter seats with teppan (grill). On this rainy Saturday, I ordered the recommended "Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, soba, and squid tempura" at the counter with teppan. Still feeling hungry, I added "yakisoba and squid legs". They offer a variety of side dishes and drinks, so there are plenty of options to choose from. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Visited with 2 people on Sunday at 15:19. It's nice that they are open all day on Sundays. We ordered a highball, a shochu highball, meatballs (with yakisoba), and eggplant ginger stir-fry. The okonomiyaki is authentic Hiroshima style with lots of cabbage. The highballs were weak. Disappointing.

Iidabashi's famous Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant "Momijiya" has opened a new branch in Kanda Sudacho called "Kanda Store". The store is located near the renowned soba restaurants "Kantayabusoba" and "Kanda Matsuya". I visited the Iidabashi store on a Saturday afternoon once and there was already a small line forming outside due to its popularity. I decided to try my luck and visit the new Kanda store without a reservation. Luckily, I was able to get a table without much wait as the store is still relatively unknown. I started with the "Ginger Pork and Eggplant Stir-Fry" and a cold beer. The eggplant absorbed the flavors well and was delicious. I also ordered a simple "Yakisoba" which had thin noodles and was tasty. The highlight was the popular "Momijiya Special Okonomiyaki" with a variety of toppings including squid tempura, mochi cheese, shrimp, scallops, clams, and oysters. It was topped with a raw egg yolk which added richness to the dish. The okonomiyaki was flavorful and satisfying. I also tried the "Negimaki" which was a small and flat pancake filled with plenty of green onions. Lastly, I ordered the staff's recommended "Tonpeiyaki with Cheese" which was a delightful combination of green onions and melted cheese. Overall, all the dishes were delicious with a chewy texture in the batter. The staff mentioned that the batter only contained flour and eggs, which made me wonder about their secret recipe. I highly recommend visiting the Kanda store before it becomes too popular!

The new shop had a cozy atmosphere. It is located near Isesugen and Awazenzai Tanpei in Kanda Sudacho, Hiroshima. I compared Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki with soba and udon. Lately, I have been enjoying udon more. The soba here was a bit dry and lacked elasticity since it wasn't boiled in the shop, so I found the udon easier to eat. The pickles and Hiroshima vegetables served while waiting for the okonomiyaki were delicious, so make sure to try them!
