I recently tried the soy senbei here and it was delicious, so I bought some for myself and as souvenirs to give out. There are also soy snack shops in Tokyo, but this place is convenient for souvenirs because it's affordable and has a wide variety. I would like to buy some when I visit Kyoto.

This is a matcha dumpling made with Uji matcha. Unlike regular grass dumplings, it has a rather deep green color. The sweetness is subtle, allowing the matcha flavor to shine through. The texture is just right, not too soft. The size is a bit small, but a box of six would be enough. I enjoyed it very much.

I went there because the reviews were good. It seems that there are various locations of Mame-Masa in Kyoto. They sell beans in quantities of 100g or more, in the 300 yen range, and in gift packages containing about 50g. Each type has a predetermined quantity you can buy, so it was a bit inconvenient if you wanted something expensive, or if you could only buy 100g even if you wanted just a little. I wish they would standardize their products. It was nice to be able to sample the products. The Cashew White was delicious. But it was a bit pricey, so I opted for the Cheese Pea. The Cheese Pea was okay, not extremely delicious, but it was cheap so I bought it. It was nice that the staff recommended various items, but I wished I could have taken my time to choose. I don't think I will visit again.

I received the classic "azuki beans" and "white azuki beans" before, but there is also a seasonal "tsukishiro" which is flavored with matcha for the summer. The ingredients include sugar, white kidney beans, agar, matcha, sorbitol, and baking soda. When I see something with matcha flavor, I can't help but buy it, even though I'm not really sure what matcha tastes like. I bought it again this time. The classic "white azuki beans" are also a favorite of mine, as both adzuki beans and white adzuki beans have a soft flavor. However, once they become bean paste, it's hard to tell the difference. In the fall, "black beans" will be released.

I stopped by this bean-specialty Japanese sweets shop at Kyoto Daimaru to buy souvenirs to take back home. Each small bag contains 40g and costs 216 yen. This time, I randomly chose 3 different kinds. All of them seem like they would go well with alcohol. The Shichimi Douraku has a nice spicy kick to it, which I personally liked the most. The Cheese flavor was tasty, although the cheese taste was not very noticeable. The Wasabi Peanuts had a strong wasabi spiciness, which my husband liked the best. There were many other varieties to choose from, so it's great that you can pick according to your preference. The prices are reasonable, the small bags are easy to eat, making them perfect for souvenirs. Thank you for the meal!

There is a tradition of eating beans on Setsubun. In the past, people used to follow the etiquette and throw soybeans, eating one for each year of their age. I'm not a big fan of soybeans, so lately I've been satisfied with eating assorted beans. I like the beans from Azukiya, and the Itoh Goshiki Mame from Kyoto is a handy souvenir. This year, I bought the Cream Goshiki Mame (630 yen), which is rare. It's a modern take on the traditional Goshiki Mame, incorporating a Western sense. Peanuts coated in five colors of cream, with a subtly sweet and soft texture. You can enjoy five flavors: milk, strawberry, banana, coffee, and matcha. The pastel colors are lovely and cute. It's really soft, with a new texture. The five flavors are distinct, and it's delicious! I really like this Western-style Goshiki Mame.

I heard that this is the original bean shop of Goshiki-mame (five-color beans). My husband's former boss at work used to like the bean sweets from here, so whenever there was something special, he would order them and distribute them. He said, "They're quite delicious," so I bought some for home and souvenirs. The various types of bean sweets are very reasonably priced. For home, I bought curry-flavored beans. They are spicy with a strong aroma, slightly salty, but once you start eating them, you can't stop. Sometimes there are raisins mixed in, adding a sweeter taste than usual. Curry and raisin flavors really go well together. For souvenirs, I bought a gift box with six different flavors, including Goshiki-mame. Next time, I think I'll try buying Goshiki-mame with a hint of nutmeg aroma for home.

Mr. Mamegimi. Just as the name suggests, there are plenty of bean sweets for sale here. It's so nice that you can sample them too! I bought the matcha dango and five types of bean sweets. The matcha dango is about 1cm in size, with a subtle sweetness and a strong matcha flavor. It has a chewy texture and tastes delicious. I thought my friends would also enjoy it, so I bought it right away. Among the five bean sweets, one of them is the five-colored beans. Unlike the colorful five-colored beans I've had before, these beans have more subdued colors. That's right, they don't use any artificial coloring! The colors are natural and gentle. The taste is not overly sweet, but rather fragrant and delicious. Which one would you choose? I personally would like to repurchase the natural-colored bean sweets from Mr. Mamegimi.

I received a set of three small dumplings on a skewer. They had a cute appearance with colors that reminded me of autumn leaves. Each skewer had three different colors, but they all tasted the same. Despite their appearance, they tasted like soybean flour. They were not too dry, but rather moist. The outside was covered in sugar, so I couldn't taste the soybean flour at all, which was strange. When I checked the ingredients, it didn't say soybean flour, but it did say soybeans. Oh, soybeans are the main ingredient for soybean flour! I see now.

I love small and cute dango without anko filling, made with plenty of soybeans, and it's a great souvenir that everyone loves. The Suhama Dango, which comes in three colors, is so cute and the best!

Received a gift of beans from a regular customer at work, the beans from Mame-Masa. I decided to open them for a snack at 3 o'clock! As soon as I opened the package, the aroma of shichimi spread out! You could clearly tell that this was Kyoto Shichimi from Shichimi-ya Hompo just by the aroma! Not just the aroma, the beans had a crispy and light texture, along with the spiciness of shichimi... and finally, a subtle sweetness from the beans! I couldn't stop eating them! This snack allows you to enjoy the aroma from the nose, spiciness, and sweetness from the mouth, experiencing the flavors of the traditional Kyoto Mame-Masa and Shichimi-ya Hompo. A collaboration of two longstanding brands condensed into a single bean, "Shichimi Douraku" was delightful. My rating in May 2015. (The restaurant's rating at the time of the review was 3.28.) Overall: 0.0, Food/Taste: 4.0, Service: 0.0, Atmosphere: 0.0, Value for Money: 0.0, Drinks: 0.0
