I found a whimsical deli shop called "Tsukiji Kimagureya" in the back alleys of Tsukiji. It's a hidden gem where you can only check the stock if you come early in the morning. Here are some items on the menu: - Shrimp cutlet 220 yen - Chicken cutlet 200 yen - Minced cutlet 200 yen - Croquette 190 yen - Hot dog 250 yen - Egg, ham and cheese, potato, tuna sandwiches each 150 yen - Hot coffee 150 yen. I had the following: - Shrimp cutlet 220 yen - Egg sandwich 150 yen - Ham and cheese sandwich 150 yen - Tuna sandwich 150 yen. The shrimp cutlet was voluminous and satisfying, with small shrimp hidden inside the cutlet. The sandwiches, all priced at 150 yen, were delicious, especially the egg sandwich with its homemade feel. The shop is open from around 5 am, but the owner sometimes oversleeps. It's a hotspot for people working in Tsukiji who need a hearty breakfast.

On Friday at 8:00, I arrived at the restaurant with no customers in sight. As I gazed at the showcase, the master chef said, "We just fried some shrimp cutlets." That's it! That's what I wanted to eat! I ordered a take-out bread roll with shredded cabbage, shrimp cutlets, and aurora sauce, along with a hot coffee. It was so delicious! If it's only 220 yen, I want to eat it every day! I wish they would open a second branch near my house. I will definitely go back again. Thank you for the meal!

Today's morning stroll took me around the Tsukiji area. Exiting from Exit A1 of Tsukiji Market Station on the Oedo Line, I found myself on Shintora Street. I turned right and walked towards the Tsukiji Honganji Temple. After crossing the first traffic light at Ichiba Bridge, I made a right turn onto Namikari Street towards Harumi. Continuing straight ahead, I spotted Namikari Shrine slightly to the right. At the T-junction, I turned left and walked for a bit before making another left turn at the second T-junction. Soon enough, I found the place I visited today: "Tsukiji Kimagure-ya" on my right. At 7:30 am on a weekday, there was a sign and menu on the right side of the store front. The menu offered items such as shrimp cutlet, chicken cutlet, minced meat cutlet, croquette, egg sandwich, ham and cheese sandwich, potato sandwich, tuna sandwich, hot dog, iced coffee, and hot coffee. Inside the glass case, there were shrimp cutlet, chicken cutlet, minced meat cutlet, and croquette on the top shelf with handwritten signs indicating they were available inside. The middle shelf displayed one egg sandwich, one ham and cheese sandwich, one potato sandwich, and two tuna sandwiches. I decided to go for the tuna sandwich, which seemed like a quick and easy snack to enjoy while walking around the market. I ordered the tuna sandwich from the lady inside and received it without a bag as I planned to eat it right away. The tuna sandwich was simple, with tuna and cucumber sandwiched between two slices of white bread. It was easy to eat with one hand while walking, and it tasted delicious. I finished the sandwich while walking and enjoyed my quiet visit to "Tsukiji Kimagure-ya." Thank you for the meal.

One of my recent daily routines. I wake up at 5 am and take a walk along the Sumida River to the Tsukiji Outer Market. I walk around the market playing Dragon Quest Walk, and buy some vegetables, fish, and pickles that catch my eye. Finally, I have breakfast at Tsukiji Kimagureya. Despite the strong wind and light rain, I sit outside the shop. I had shrimp cutlet for 220 yen, croquette for 190 yen, and egg sandwich for 150 yen. Since they didn't have iced coffee that day, I had hot coffee for 150 yen. The homemade freshly made bread has a crispy texture that goes well with the fried food, making it quite delicious. Both the croquette sandwich and shrimp cutlet are recommended. The egg sandwich is made by folding a slice of bread in half, and it tastes great with a hint of pepper. Early to rise is a penny earned. Thank you for the meal. I will come back again.

I visited the shop after 8 o'clock. It was my first time there, so I was a bit lost, but I ended up buying a potato salad sandwich for 150 yen and a shrimp cutlet sandwich for 220 yen. I ate them 2 hours later. The potato salad sandwich had chunky potatoes and cucumbers, giving me a nostalgic feeling. The shrimp cutlet sandwich had a greasy smell even before opening it, so I was worried. However, when I tried it, it was not greasy at all. The ample amount of cabbage and aurora sauce combined to create a refreshing taste. I finished it in no time and it was delicious. I am curious about other flavors, but I might end up buying the same combination again. The bread was also fluffy and moist all the way to the crust, and it was delicious!

The shop is located on the right side of the first corner after turning from Harei Street onto Namiyoke Street. There were only two sandwiches in the showcase, one with egg and one with ham and cheese. Since they didn't have the chicken cutlet I was looking for, I was about to give up, but then I saw a handwritten note saying "available inside." I ended up buying a still warm chicken cutlet sandwich (200 yen) and my favorite potato sandwich (150 yen). Both sandwiches were made with ingredients sandwiched between a single slice of bread about 8mm thick, folded in half - very simple. These sandwiches are made to be easy to eat with one hand, more for market workers than tourists. The chicken cutlet was not crispy, but the meat was tender and easy to eat. The slightly sweet sauce went well with it. The potato sandwich had a good amount of black pepper and a little mayonnaise, highlighting the sweetness of the potatoes. I want to try all the varieties like shrimp cutlet, minced meat cutlet, and croquette (each 200 yen)!

A small shop that clearly makes you want to stop by. When asked what is the most popular item, they say it's the Shrimp Cutlet Sandwich. The crispy shrimp cutlet is packed inside the bread with shredded cabbage and Aurora sauce, creating a nostalgic and simple taste with a satisfying volume. Next time, I'll try the Chicken Cutlet Sandwich with a beer. The shop's business hours are from 5pm to 10pm, but I wonder if they still operate the same hours after Tsukiji Market moved. If it's early enough, I'll stop by again. Shrimp Sandwich - ¥220. Date: Saturday, around 10:30am. Seating: Takeout. Frequency: First visit. Location: About 5 minutes walk from Tsukiji Market Station.

This is a bakery located in the outer market of Tsukiji. It's a bit unclear what kind of shop it is, as they also seem to have onigiri and maybe even a barber shop attached to it. When you ring the bell on top of the showcase, the owner comes out. There are a few bread options displayed, with fried bread items kept in a separate container, possibly for warmth. I bought a ham and cheese sandwich and chicken katsu and shrimp katsu from the showcase, and took them home to try. Now, for the taste... [Ham and Cheese Sandwich] A simple sandwich made with ham and cheese sandwiched between buttered bread with mustard. It seems like something anyone could easily make at home, but somehow it tastes even better when you buy it. [Chicken Katsu] It had good volume, but the taste was a bit light, lacking depth. [Shrimp Katsu] This was the best one out of the three. The shrimp was plump and had a strong presence, showing the quality you'd expect from Tsukiji. It paired well with the aurora sauce. Overall, despite the simple method of using bread and fillings, they managed to create various flavors and pay attention to detail. This unassuming shop turned out to be quite impressive.

I visited Tsukiji Market for the first time on September 26, 2019. I had not visited Toyosu Market before. There were still many types of sushi I had not tried at Tsukiji. Today, I bought breakfast here. I arrived at 7:10 am and there was one customer ahead of me. While waiting, I checked the menu and the display case. The regular customer in front of me mentioned that if you order fried bread, they will bring it out from the back. That's why there were no fried bread in the case. I had a potato sandwich for 140 yen, a tuna sandwich for 140 yen, and a minced cutlet sandwich for 180 yen. I had them after arriving at work. They were cut in half with the crust still on, making it easy to eat with one hand, which is convenient for market workers. The seasoning of the fillings was also on the strong side, which I liked. I was satisfied and full. Thank you for the meal.

My benchmark is 4.0. This small sandwich shop is located near the Tsukiji Outer Market, on a street called Namijoke. It opens at 5 am and closes at 10 am. The shop offers shrimp cutlet, minced meat cutlet, and croquette sandwiches, all with shredded cabbage inside. The shop is popular among busy market workers.

Takeshi Matsumura, the owner of Cut House Matsubara, started a sandwich shop for market workers at the new Tsukiji Market location. Due to the move, the number of customers has decreased significantly, as lamented by the owner on the show. However, this worked in our favor as we were able to buy the Chicken Cutlet Sandwich (180 yen) and my favorite Egg Sandwich (140 yen) even at 8 in the morning when there were still products left. We bought the sandwiches as takeout and followed the advice of Mini Mini Daisakusen to eat them right next to where we purchased them, in Tsukijigawa Park. The park even had trash cans, which was rare, and impressive public restrooms. The Chicken Cutlet Sandwich was wrapped in paper and the Egg Sandwich was wrapped in plastic wrap. The Chicken Cutlet, soaked in sauce, was soft and slightly sweet. The sauce seeped into the bread, making it just the right size to satisfy a small hunger. The egg salad had a simple yet delicious taste with added spices and cucumbers. The sandwiches were reasonably priced, easy to eat while standing, and reflected the voices of market workers well. A great sandwich shop indeed.

Tsukiji continues on and on, it's a wonderland of food with a mix of Japanese and Western cuisine both inside and outside the market. Not just a fish market, but also a small fruit and vegetable market. Outside the market, you can find various food processing and dining-related items for sale. Now that the market has moved to Toyosu, it's a shame that only the outside market remains. This shop is for people working in the area, offering take-out options. Tsukiji Kimagure-ya, why is the sandwich the specialty here? Who knows why it's called "Kimagure" (whimsical) when it comes to sandwiches, but there they are, lined up in front of the shop. These handmade sandwiches have a nostalgic Showa-era feel, with a touch of Japanese influence. There are tables and chairs outside, giving it a Parisian open-air cafe vibe. The simple sandwiches, with basic ingredients sandwiched between two slices of thick bread, cost less than 200 yen each. I grabbed a few on my way back from Tsukiji, so I only have photos of the remaining ones. The classic egg and tuna sandwiches are made with ingredients that seem to have been mixed right in the shop. They have a warmth reminiscent of something your mom might make for you on a weekend afternoon. I imagine the busy workers in Tsukiji grab these sandwiches quickly and head back to work. These sandwiches really capture the spirit of the hardworking people in Tsukiji. Delicious!

Tsukiji's main street is easy to find, but not many tourists pass by, and it closes before noon... I happened to walk by and thought, "Was there a shop here?" It's not a new shop, it's actually an old establishment! Even though I wasn't very hungry, I rushed in. They have sandwiches and onigiri, but I ordered the tonkatsu sandwich. It's simple but has a great taste. I'm ashamed that I didn't know about this place before.

March 31, 2018 (Saturday) is the first stop of my Tsukiji food tour ☺️ Finally, the busy end of the fiscal year is over, and I can finally rest on a Saturday... ( ´∀`) Today, I'm heading to Tsukiji after a long time! The shops inside Tsukiji will be closing by October 6 this year, so I want to visit as many as I can before then. It's a beautiful day today, too... ( ´∀`) I arrived at 9 am without having breakfast, and it seems like there are more customers than usual... (*_*) Especially a lot of foreign tourists, and you can hear different languages being spoken everywhere... (*_*) The first stop today is the sandwich shop "Kimagure-ya". I saw them on a certain public broadcast program, and they are known for their 9 types of sandwiches with the crusts on. We ordered: - Shrimp cutlet (200 yen) - Chicken cutlet (180 yen) - Egg (140 yen) - Tuna (140 yen) We also ordered a boiled egg (50 yen)... (I can't resist eggs) ( ´∀`) There are benches outside the shop, so we quickly took some photos and enjoyed our sandwiches. They were delicious! Especially the shrimp cutlet and chicken cutlet were warm and tender, so tasty! They may not be freshly made, but they are really good. It's no surprise that NHK came to do a feature on them... ( ´∀`) (It's not a public broadcast, is it?!) I wish we could eat more, but we have more places to visit, so let's stop here... ( ^∀^) Ah, that was delicious! Thank you for the meal! ( ´∀`)

First visit 201712 (No.1010) This is a shop that caught my attention when I saw it on a TV special about Tsukiji. Even though it's Tsukiji, the area is mostly shops that deal with fish, like the "Ebi no Daimaru" where I bought lobster before, and there are not many restaurants around (^_^;) It's a place where shops close at 10 in the morning, and the shop next door is run by a barber, who focuses on hairdressing from 10 am onwards (laughs). I visited at 9:05, and at that time there were only 3 sandwiches left. Truly, Tsukiji is an early morning place (tears). Ham and cheese sandwich for 140 yen. I couldn't eat standing up, so I moved to a nearby park to eat! It's a sandwich with a slice of bread folded with ham, cheese, and cucumber without the crust cut off... It's quite delicious (^_^) People who work early in the morning at Tsukiji Market would probably enjoy it even more! Thank you for the meal.

I heard that they sell out by 9:30, so I went at 9:00, but there was hardly anything left! I managed to get a ham and cheese sandwich. It wasn't a typical sandwich, just folded slices of bread with ham, cheese, and cucumber inside. It wasn't a sandwich worth buying, but I guess it's thanks to the staff inside.

There is a sandwich shop located near the back of the Tsukiji outer market, just off the street in front of the Namiyoke Inari Shrine where there is another entrance to the inner market. The shop specializes in old-fashioned, simple sandwiches rather than trendy ones. The sandwiches are made with thick slices of bread folded in half, with a filling in between. I purchased four sandwiches: tuna (made with just tuna, not mixed with mayo), ham and cheese (with one slice of ham and cheese each), shrimp cutlet (the cutlet is surprisingly large with a strong sauce flavor), and croquette (also with a strong sauce flavor). The shrimp cutlet and croquette sandwiches were warm as they were taken out from a warming case at the back of the shop.
