I received some traditional Japanese sweets from a nationwide confectionery shop and tried their signature Tsuba Tsuba, Yuzu Mochi, a roll cake-shaped wagashi, and two types of yokan. The expiration date is about 2 weeks from purchase, and the colorful packaging makes them convenient as souvenirs. Upon tasting, I found them to be subtly sweet, fragrant, and easy to eat in terms of size. The Tsuba Tsuba had a chewy skin and a perfectly sweet red bean paste filling. The Yuzu Mochi was packed with small mochi balls with a strong yuzu aroma and mild sweetness. Similarly, the roll cake-like wagashi had thin layers of dough with a predominantly sweet red bean filling, yet not overwhelmingly sweet. The yokan, like the other sweets, had a restrained sweetness that allowed me to finish it without feeling overwhelmed. The generous amount of red bean paste and the balanced sweetness are reasons why these sweets are popular nationwide.

I got takeout. The appearance was cute and I ended up buying too much (^^) It was a shooting star, made with smooth paste. The inside was filled with smooth red bean paste and was easy to eat. The sweetness was overall strong. The Kinoto Ayaka from Kinton was also delicious (^^) I think Mizukaede is my favorite ♡ It was a white bean paste on a mochi-like confection (^^) This was my first time trying Tsuruya Yoshinobu's confection, but I want to buy it again ♡

"Tsubara Tsubara" is a sweet made with a skin made from rice flour wrapped around sweet bean paste. The name means "deeply, to one's heart's content" as mentioned in the Manyoshu. The skin has a chewy texture, similar to the famous Japanese sweet "Ajari Mochi", but with a slightly less chewy texture. I tried the spring limited edition "Hana no Tsubara Tsubara" with cherry blossom-colored sweet bean paste, and found that the regular version had a better balance between the skin and the sweet bean paste. There is also a matcha flavor available, but it was sold out at the time, indicating its popularity. I would like to try that flavor as well.

Dr. Fujisaki Shinichi, the director of BODYPIT KYOTO. The sweets from Tsuruya Yoshinobu are very delicious. I enjoyed them crisply and tastefully. I was served delicious tea as well. The gentle sweetness was excellent. Thank you very much.

I found a summer Kyoto-style confection at Tsuruya Yoshinobu in Takashimaya on Shijo Street. I bought one because they were sold individually. It's called "Kyoryo" and costs 378 yen (including 8% tax). It's a confection with the character "Dai" from the Gion Matsuri floating on top. I was worried about whether I could take it out nicely because of the packaging, but it came out beautifully! It's a delicious confection with a flavor of red beans, similar to a mixture of smooth sweet bean paste and water agar.

This time, I purchased a new product called "Kanoiro" from the long-established Kyoto confectionery shop "Tsuruya Yoshinobu". It is a very popular item, often sold out in stores and online. Luckily, I found it at Takashimaya Kyoto store and bought it on impulse! The product consists of dried fruits on top of yokan, showcasing excellent craftsmanship. When you taste it, the combination of yokan and fruits creates a nice harmony, making it very delicious. If you come across it, I highly recommend trying it. Thank you for the meal.

"I also thought this was quite good." That was my impression of the coffee-flavored "Kyokanze" and chestnut-filled "Tsubaratsubara" that I received from Tsuruya Yoshinobu. Kyokanze Coffee Signboard product "Kyokanze" is the limited edition flavor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the rod confectionery "Kyokanze". It is made with mocha coffee beans, which have a mild and calming aroma that complements the proud red bean paste. When I tried it, there was no unpleasant bitterness, and the gentle and fragrant coffee flavor matched well with the red bean paste. Personally, I thought it was a splendid fusion of Japanese and Western flavors. As for the drink to pair it with, coffee is a natural choice, but it would probably also go well with roasted green tea. Tsubaratsubara Chestnut Like "Kyokanze", this is the autumn limited edition version of the shop's signature product "Tsubaratsubara". It has a chewy texture with chopped chestnuts in a smooth red bean paste filling, offering a simple yet elegant taste that doesn't get boring. The chestnut-filled "Tsubaratsubara" will be available until late November, while the coffee-flavored "Kyokanze" will be available until late December. If you have the chance, I recommend giving them a try.

On Saturday at 3:00 PM, I visited Tsuruya Yoshinobu and tried their Kyoto-style chilled sweets, which were all beautiful summer treats. They were labeled as containing kudzu, and were reasonably priced. I bought one each of the following: TSURU涼涼 Warm Wenzhou Mandarin for 324 yen, TSURU涼涼 Red Shiso for 324 yen, and TSURU涼涼 Yuzu for 324 yen. When I thought about buying them in a box, they asked me, "How would you like them wrapped?" I replied, "It's for home use, so it's okay," and they informed me that they also sell them individually. I decided to buy them individually. My family enjoyed them at home. They were sweet but not excessively so, and had great flavors. The Red Shiso one was particularly delicious. I think they are popular as sweets for hot weather. I would be happier to receive these than Mizuyokan. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I bought one each of three types of warm kudzu soup and shiruko that can be enjoyed just by adding hot water. The packaging of the mitsumame kuzu yu ground tea arare-style shiruko was not only cute on the outside but also inside. It had colorful arare sprinkled throughout, with a slightly crunchy texture that was delicious. I tried adding shiratama to each of these three for a little twist, and the thick soup mixed well with it, making it very tasty!

"This is such a modern Japanese confectionery." Known for its long-established Kyoto confectionery store, Tsuruya Yoshinobu, I recently discovered a very contemporary assortment of amber sugar. What I purchased at this store this time is called "Amber Sugar Cubes (Sunflower)". The cube-shaped amber sugar in various colors such as brown and yellow truly evokes sunflowers. What's interesting is not only the appearance but also the taste. Besides yellow, there are flavors like soybean flour, ginger, and black sugar, which are traditional Japanese flavors that appeal to not only the younger generation but also the elderly. Yoshinobu not only offers traditional confections but also creates new sweets like this, making it one of my favorite Japanese confectionery stores. If you are looking for unique Japanese sweets, be sure to give it a try."

On New Year's Eve, the department store was very crowded, but I stopped by Kyoto Takashimaya to find a New Year's greeting gift. It seems that traditional Japanese sweets are appreciated for New Year's greetings, especially those from Kyoto. Since I didn't know which one to choose, I decided to buy one for myself this time. I looked for something that would last long and give a warm feeling when eaten during the cold season. I found "Kigi no Tsuyu" from Tsuruya Yoshinobu. This product is meant to be taken out of the bag, put in a cup, pour boiling water (95 degrees or more, about 180cc), and slowly stir before enjoying. There were other options available, but most of them were like sweet bean paste. In contrast, "Kigi no Tsuyu" from Tsuruya Yoshinobu offered three different flavors, all of which were delicious. I plan to visit the store again after New Year's and get "Kigi no Tsuyu" for my New Year's greetings.

On the night of July 7th, I took a friend who came from Kitakyushu to walk around the hot night streets of Kyoto, particularly around Pontocho, hopping from one place to another for drinks. Since my friend had never been to "Mama Torty" before (most ordinary Kyushu people wouldn't know about it haha), we went to the shop on the 15th street. There, we were given some snacks brought by other customers as souvenirs. They were limited edition snacks from Tsuruya Yoshinobu for Tanabata. The wrapping paper was beautiful, and so were the snacks. It made me feel glad that we were out drinking and walking around on Tanabata. Good snacks also go well with alcohol.

I came to Takashimaya in Kawaramachi, Kyoto and bought a Sakura Ankan Tsubora for 151 yen including tax at Tsuruya Yoshinobu. It was just a regular Tsubora, not a special one with Sakura flavor. However, it was delicious. The size of the Hangetsu Dorayaki was disappointing, but the texture was quite good with a mochi-like skin. Overall, it was a satisfying treat! Thank you for the meal! Now, let's talk about Kameya Yoshinobu. I came here to try their famous Kyoto Kanze. I really love the appearance of Kyoto Kanze. The swirling design is simple yet captivating. It is said to be inspired by a dragon descending into the well called Kanzei near the Kameya Yoshinobu main store, causing ripples on the water surface. The origin story is lovely. I like this kind of thing. The composition is very simple, with red bean paste and murasame. The murasame's melt-in-your-mouth texture is surprisingly good. Perfect. I'm falling in love with just this. The red bean paste also has a natural sweetness, without that unpleasant sugary aftertaste. The taste is great, the origin is interesting. Truly a famous confection!

Seasonal designs of wagashi, changing every half month, such as "Spring in the Snow" and "Peach Season," are full of seasonal charm. The kinton inside is made with chunky sweet bean paste, offering both texture and sweetness. However, I wonder if it always has to be chunky sweet bean paste. It might be nice to have some variety, like white bean paste or strained bean paste, once in a while. Also, the fact that some azuki bean skins remain is a bit concerning. Recently, I've been enjoying "Tsumugi Uta," a cute bite-sized manju shaped like a cocoon inspired by Nishijin-ori. Inside, there is a sweet bean paste with chopped chestnuts, providing a nice contrast in texture and flavor. It has a nostalgic and simple taste, and despite its small size, it is quite satisfying. It also has a shelf life of 25 days.

Established in 1803, the long-established Kyoto confectionery shop "Tsuruya Yoshinobu". I purchased a seasonal sweet called "Fukume" for 432 yen. The outer layer, which I thought was gyuhi, turned out to be a soft gyuhi. It is wrapped in white bean paste. A plump and cute traditional Japanese sweet. The chewy elasticity of the gyuhi is delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness. I also bought another sweet, but I forgot its name. It has a crumbled bean paste on the outside, and inside is a grainy sweet bean paste. The contrast between the black bean paste and the scattered yellow-green color on top was very beautiful. Both sweets have a strong presence of bean paste, which is just right in terms of sweetness. They are not too sweet. I imagine they would taste amazing with matcha. Seasonal sweets like these make me feel the beauty of the season. Tsuruya Yoshinobu is not only known for their seasonal sweets, but also for their Kyoto Kanze and Tsubaratsubara sweets.

Tsuruya Yoshinobu at Takashimaya Kyoto Store. Tsuruya Yoshinobu is a well-known and popular confectionery shop in Kyoto. This time, I tried their Yuzu Mochi. It is a famous Kyoto confectionery that has been around since the early Meiji period. The elegant aroma of yuzu is pleasant, and the refined sweetness of wasanbon sugar is delightful. The pale yellow packaging has a nice design, and the green color of the mochi is appetizing. The bite-sized pieces are easy to eat and make a great accompaniment to tea. This type of confectionery would make a great gift as it is sure to be well-received, and receiving it would bring joy as well.

The typhoon has passed!! Tonight is the moon viewing!! Let's pray for a good harvest♪ I will enjoy some sweets in a sacred mood instead of snacks!! ・Usagi Mochi (rabbit-shaped rice cake) 8 pieces for 1200 yen. The white bean paste is lightly colored red and wrapped in mochi, with red yokan used for eyes and ears to create a rabbit shape. The white bean paste is very smooth and the red color is cute. It's a bit sweet but elegant. The mochi is soft and delicious. The yokan eyes and ears are a nice accent. Overall, it's a treat that is not too sweet, reminiscent of the time when sugar was precious and enjoyed with bitter matcha. It's cute and the taste is consistent as always. I recommend enjoying it while explaining the meaning of moon viewing to children or family members. It's a soothing treat for anyone. Enjoy!
