Today, I visited a yakisoba specialty store near Okachimachi Station called "Shitamachi Yakisoba Gin-chan Ueno Hirokoji Store" for the first time in a while. They offer various flavors and toppings, but I decided to go with the classic MIX yakisoba for 890 yen. The portion size wasn't big, but it had a lot of toppings like shrimp, squid, and octopus which made it enjoyable. I think adding a few more toppings would have been nice. The staff here all have a cool vibe, haha. Thank you for the meal.

I was turned down by the meat juice dipping udon shop I wanted to go to, so I visited the second choice, Shitamachi Yakisoba Ginchanchan Ueno Hirokoji store. I ordered the great value Teppan Yakisoba + draft beer set for 1000 yen. The yakisoba is cooked to order, so it takes a bit of time, but it's delicious so that's not a problem! I enjoyed the yakisoba with mayonnaise and pickled ginger, along with beer. I also tried different flavors with mustard and habanero mayonnaise. After finishing, I will move on to the next restaurant.

Today's lunch was at "Shitamachi Yakisoba Ginchann" (Hirokoji Ueno store). It's located about a 1-minute walk from JR Okachimachi Station North Exit towards Matsuzakaya direction (photo 1). Photo 2 shows the menu displayed outside the shop. I arrived close to 2 pm on purpose to avoid the lunch rush. Thanks to that, there was only one group of female solo diners in the empty shop. The interior of the shop has only counter seats. I sat down and ordered the lunch set with miso soup and rice (¥1,000). The owner of the shop had a slightly quiet voice and was a bit hard to hear, but he took my order. The food arrived in about 4-5 minutes (photo 3). I sprinkled shichimi and garlic powder from the table onto the yakisoba, and added plenty of pickled ginger before eating. The yakisoba had a simple and familiar taste. As someone from Osaka, I love this kind of flavor and it felt like I hadn't had it in a long time. The miso soup was standard but also delicious... it was so flavorful with lots of ingredients that it made the rice go down smoothly. The meal was satisfying with just rice and miso soup. The bill was payable with PayPay. I left the shop sweating, but I felt good after enjoying the simple and delicious taste of the common people. The end.

It was our second visit on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered the Yakisoba set (Shitamachi Yakisoba + rice + pork miso soup) for 1000 yen (tax included). The Yakisoba had thick noodles with delicious sauce, and the pork miso soup had a nice ginger flavor. The rice was average.

I really wanted to eat some flour-based dish, so I called around but everywhere was fully booked. My friend suggested this place, so we decided to check it out. It was my first time here, and there was a woman running the place by herself. They had a set menu with a beer and omurice yakisoba, so we ordered that. The beer arrived first, and I finished it quickly while waiting for the omurice yakisoba. Oops... I drank it all before the dish arrived! So, I had to order another beer while waiting. The omurice yakisoba was so delicious! The noodles were a bit thick and chewy, and the portion was quite generous. I don't know why sauce and beer go so well together! It felt like a perfect summer meal. It was really tasty! Thank you for the meal! ✨️

On a regular night after 7 p.m., I was able to get a seat right away. The Okonomiyaki soba for 790 yen was delicious. It had a unique twist with a fluffy egg omelette on top of the yakisoba noodles. The noodles were medium thickness, chewy, and moist, giving a different texture than boiled noodles. The sauce was thick and sweet, with a Kansai-style flavor. The diced pork loin added a nice touch, and its unique cut complemented the dish well. Although I didn't find the yakisoba exceptional before, this time I found it to be absolutely delicious.

I visited for the second time. I love yakisoba with plenty of sauce on the noodles, so I really like the yakisoba here. The noodles are thick and chewy. The set with rice and karaage is also delicious. Especially the karaage is a must-try. The large, hot karaage fried right in front of you is unbeatable.

On a regular Friday at 11 am in Ueno, after finishing up one errand, I wandered around thinking about where to have lunch. Suddenly, I spotted a sign for Peyang's Teppan Sauce Yakisoba and Tonjiru set for 1,000 yen. As a self-proclaimed Peyang fan (Maruchan's three pack is good too!), I couldn't resist the temptation to try it out. Even though Peyang doesn't actually cook their yakisoba on a teppan grill, the sign was intriguing. I remembered they were selling their sauce in bottles a while back. But wait, those bottles at the supermarket were from Gyoumu Super! They had two types of sauce, one for yakisoba and one for okonomiyaki. Well, it's all about the atmosphere, right? I placed my order with the quiet old man behind the counter. The yakisoba was served on a silver aluminum plate. How would it taste? I slurped it up in one go - it had that distinct Gyoumu Super Bulldog sauce flavor (laughs). The noodles were just your average type. The ingredients were a bit sparse, with cabbage, bean sprouts, and pork. The pork was in block form, requiring a good chew. I'm not exactly sure what makes it "downtown yakisoba," but it was slightly lacking in ingredients. However, it was tasty. As a standalone dish, it might seem a bit lacking for lunch, but when paired with rice and tonjiru, the combination was perfect. That's what I was looking for. There aren't many places in Tokyo that offer yakisoba set meals. The door was left open, allowing a nice breeze to come in, and the wind chime on the door made a pleasant sound. All of these elements combined made for a delightful dining experience. Thank you for the meal!

It's been about half a century since I last specialized in yakisoba. Memories of my middle school days come flooding back. I wonder if that shop is still around? It had a counter in an L shape with staff mixing cabbage and noodles on a hot plate. The smell of the sizzling sauce really whets your appetite. Since it was my first visit, I planned to order just the yakisoba, but I was drawn to the rice and pork miso soup set. The portion turned out to be quite large. ◆Fried egg yakisoba + pork miso soup + rice set (1,000 yen including tax) The thick noodles are generously coated in sauce, making it quite flavorful. The fried egg helps balance the saltiness, but it's still on the salty side. Plenty of rice, and the pork miso soup is overflowing. The miso soup was also a bit too salty from being cooked for too long. As a child of the Showa era, I was taught to finish all the rice served, so I did finish it all. But it took some time to digest. It was a lunch filled with too much salt.

The nearest station is Okachimachi. This yakisoba restaurant is in a prime location. It doesn't boast about gourmet quality or exceptional service. The one thing that can be said is that the yakisoba is delicious. Served hot on a hot plate, it is incredibly juicy. The yakisoba, cooked with plenty of thick sauce, is very rich. It's just right when you break the fried egg and eat it. Topped with plenty of pickled ginger and generously drizzled with mayonnaise, it becomes even more delicious. There is a set menu available, and I chose the A set for 1000 yen, which includes miso soup and rice. While waiting, Uber Eats and Demae-can delivery riders frequently come by. The staff also seem to be busy with takeout orders. I had to wait a bit on Sunday, but I think it's a great restaurant where you can casually drop by. Thank you for the meal.

My senior colleague, who knows that I love yakisoba, took me to a restaurant for my birthday!! The restaurant has a small counter with 8 seats, which creates a very cozy atmosphere. I could watch the staff carefully preparing each dish from my seat at the counter, which made the waiting time exciting. They offer three sizes: regular, medium, and large, and I ordered the regular size of the sauce yakisoba. It was a full portion, more than I expected! The menu is not very extensive, but all the dishes looked delicious. I was torn between ordering the sauce yakisoba and the salt yakisoba, but since it was my first visit, I chose the sauce yakisoba. It was a great choice!! However, I couldn't resist the temptation of the salt yakisoba, so I plan to go back soon to try it. If possible, I would like to try all the dishes on the menu! The restaurant also offers Uber Eats delivery, so takeout or delivery might be a good option too! It has become one of my favorite places to eat.

From Ueno Station to Matsuzakaya, just before reaching there is a shop in a narrow alley that caught my attention every time I passed by. I visited in the afternoon and was greeted with alcohol disinfection at the entrance. I was directed to my preferred seat, which was a bit cramped with a transparent partition separating the seats. The staff took my order with a lovely smile as I decided on the most basic menu item, sauce yakisoba, and iced oolong tea. The yakisoba portion was quite generous, with the option for medium or large size. The iced oolong tea was served promptly with plenty of ice, very refreshing. The yakisoba had a good amount of bean sprouts and cabbage, maintaining a nice crunch. Although the pork was a bit tough and overcooked, the overall flavor was pleasant and not too greasy. The staff, while mostly quiet, had a pleasant demeanor and there were affordable takeout options available. Overall, it was a satisfying meal with good portion sizes and reasonable prices.

It's a shop located behind Matsuya that my acquaintance and I have been curious about for about half a year. Finally, I decided to check it out. I was in the mood for a light drink, so I was hoping for some snacks, but the main dish was yakisoba, with a set that included fried chicken. I ordered a lemon sour and a large portion of yakisoba with fried egg. It cost 1200 yen. It's a small shop with only a counter, run by what seems to be a couple. The woman was cooking the yakisoba. It took about 10 minutes for the food to be served. The fried egg on top didn't look very appetizing, and the yakisoba had bean sprouts, cabbage, and pork, topped with tempura flakes and bonito flakes. The sauce was on the darker side, and the flavor was quite strong, with some sweetness. I thought it could be a bit spicier. The noodles were typical yakisoba style, without the crispy texture. I considered taking the leftovers home at one point, but managed to finish it. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly delicious either. The lack of charm didn't make me want to go back. It was a mysterious shop.

Just a 1-minute walk from Okachimachi Station, this yakisoba specialty shop offers yakisoba in three sizes (small, medium, large). Today's order: the Deluxe Yakisoba (medium) for 968 yen. Served on a hot iron plate with delicious sauce! Curry powder, mayonnaise, mustard, and other condiments are available at the counter for you to customize. There are 8 counter seats, no smoking allowed. Various cards and electronic money are accepted.

First visit! A must-try dish was the okonomiyaki yakisoba. The sauce was rich and coated the noodles perfectly, making it delicious and a great match with beer. I heard they also have salt and tonkotsu flavors, so I'll try the salt flavor next time.

I suddenly felt a strong craving for yakisoba, so I changed my plans for a stroll along the Setagaya Line and headed to Ueno (lol). It seemed to be a yakisoba specialty shop, but surprisingly there was a line. It wasn't a long wait, but it was hard to get in... I found out later that delivery guys kept coming in one after another, so they must have had a lot of orders. Even though the seating was limited, they were constantly cooking, which explained the short wait. I guess with yakisoba, it's okay if it cools down a bit for delivery. It was interesting to see the delivery guys from different companies coming in one after another. Now, about the menu I ordered: Teppan Yakisoba and Okonomiyaki Yakisoba. The Okonomiyaki Yakisoba looked like okonomiyaki with an egg on top, mayo, and okonomiyaki sauce. The Teppan Yakisoba didn't have seaweed on top, but instead had tenkasu. My partner said that if there's no seaweed, they often use tenkasu instead. I actually like tenkasu. The ingredients were pork, cabbage, and a little bean sprouts, with a rich sauce that made it taste like a fancier version of street vendor yakisoba - which I really enjoyed. There were mayo and mustard on the table, and I tried adding mustard, which surprisingly went well with the tangy flavor of the yakisoba. The restaurant only had a counter, and they provided disinfectant wipes for customers to clean the counter before and after eating. The entrance was left open for ventilation, making it a bit chilly, but it's all part of their infection prevention measures. It's important to cooperate and do our part to have a safe dining experience. Thank you for the meal!

On a holiday afternoon, my friend suggested a restaurant that we had never thought of before. I had bookmarked this place and was planning to go alone on a weekday for lunch, so it worked out well. We had to wait a bit longer than expected due to the lunch rush not being over yet. We waited for about 15 minutes before being seated. The delay seemed to be due to the continuous flow of delivery drivers like Uber. I ordered the Okonomiyaki soba, and my friend ordered the regular yakisoba. The Okonomiyaki soba came with a fried egg on top and had a rich and sweet sauce. It was delicious. There was someone at another table who ordered rice, but I think this dish would also make a great topping for rice. There was mustard on the table, which I found a bit unusual, but it paired well with the dish. The tangy mustard went really well with the sweet sauce. I highly recommend it.

This is a yakisoba restaurant located near Ueno station, across from Matsuya, with a traditional downtown atmosphere. - Okonomiyaki yakisoba: 748 yen - Deluxe yakisoba: 858 yen - Rice: 152 yen - Miso soup: 152 yen - Draft beer: 387 yen x 3 - Non-alcoholic beer: 387 yen We went with two people and it cost 3,373 yen. The yakisoba had mayonnaise on top, which you could add more yourself from the bottle on the table, making it delicious. The miso soup was hearty and tasty. The draft beer was slightly smaller but reasonably priced and good.

Today's lunch was at Ginchan, a traditional yakisoba restaurant in Okachimachi. I used to frequent their Shinjuku location, but it closed down, so this will be my last visit. I ordered a set which included yakisoba with a fried egg on top, miso soup, and rice for 1,000 yen. It was a good deal compared to ordering each item separately. The yakisoba was made fresh after I placed my order, which was nice. Despite being part of a chain, this location had some differences from the Shinjuku one, like the sauce being more watery and the pork being thinly sliced. It wasn't what I expected, but it was still delicious.

I visited "Shitamachi Yakisoba Ginchann Ueno Hirokoji Store" around 5 pm on a certain day in March 2022. Located just a 1-minute walk from Ueno Hirokoji Station, the small restaurant had only one other customer when I arrived. I sat at the counter and ordered the "Fried Noodles with Fried Egg (regular size) + Pork Soup and Rice" for ¥1,000. The dish was served after a 7-8 minute wait. The yakisoba, topped with a fried egg, was accompanied by a generous serving of pork soup and rice. I added plenty of pickled ginger from the condiments on the table to my yakisoba. The yakisoba had crunchy tempura bits, and the sauce had a perfectly balanced richness, making it very flavorful. The balance of vegetables, pork, and noodles was excellent. Breaking the egg yolk and mixing it with the yakisoba added another layer of flavor. The dish paired well with the rice, and adding mayonnaise and mustard enhanced the taste even more. The pork soup was also very flavorful, with a hint of sweetness that complemented the yakisoba and rice perfectly. It had plenty of root vegetables, providing a satisfying texture. The addition of sweet potatoes may have contributed to its pleasant sweetness. It was the most delicious pork soup I had tasted recently, especially when sprinkled with shichimi pepper. The set meal had a great balance, and the yakisoba and pork soup made the rice disappear quickly. Although rice refills were available, one serving was enough due to the generous portion of yakisoba. Finishing the set meal left me pleasantly full. The taste of the yakisoba was something that couldn't be replicated at home. The pork soup exceeded my expectations, and I was already looking forward to having it as a set meal again on my next visit. "Ginchann" is a place I want to come back to regularly.
