TOMIT
I tried the lunch at a sushi restaurant that I had attempted to visit several times before, but was always told I couldn't come after 1:00 PM. Today, however, I was able to go at 12:00 PM, so I decided to give it a try. The lunch options were priced at 2160 yen and 3240 yen, and I chose the 3240 yen option. They served the sushi one or two pieces at a time, which I appreciated. There were two counters where the sushi chefs were making the sushi, which I found to be a unique setup for a restaurant of this size. The sushi chef serving me was not the owner, but the second-in-command (or maybe the third-in-command, since there was another counter). The sushi included akami, shima aji (although it looked more like white fish in the photo, but maybe that was just my perception), squid, chutoro, ikura, uni, anago, sweet shrimp, tamagoyaki, tekka maki, kappa maki, burdock root roll, and grilled shima aji nigiri. Aside from the grilled shima aji, there were no explanations provided, so my descriptions may be incorrect. The slightly sweet, old-fashioned shari rice was slightly warm and soft, and the sushi pieces were larger than usual. However, the balance of the sushi seemed off, with thin and small pieces of fish. The quality of the fish was decent. The tamagoyaki had a store-bought taste and was filled with denbu. The rolled sushi was pre-made but neatly cut. The miso soup with clams was delicious. The last piece of grilled shima aji nigiri was handed to me, perhaps as a gesture of quick service, but it lacked a sense of unity and seemed better when eaten separately. The atmosphere was friendly and not too formal, with many regular customers (including what seemed to be regular lunch customers). The 3240 yen lunch did not include a dessert, so the 2160 yen option might have been better.
