On this day, I went to a yakitori restaurant in Ochanomizu with a friend who loves yakitori and drinking. It is located near Ochanomizu Station on the JR Chuo Line and the Shin-Ochanomizu Subway Station, between Sotohoridori Street and the Kanda River, after crossing the Seibashi Bridge. Next to it is a billiard hall called "Awajitei Billiard Hall" that I used to visit during my college days. The interior has a retro Showa era atmosphere and is surprisingly spacious. It gets quite crowded after 7 pm, with many female customers. We started with a toast with beer. We had two glasses of The Premium Malt's (draft) for 480 yen each (excluding tax). There are also bottled beers from Kirin, Asahi, and Sapporo available. The aromatic ale has a light flavor. The appetizers included simmered taro for 300 yen, potato salad for 300 yen, and cucumber and myoga pickles for 360 yen. The potato salad was mashed, and the pickles were refreshing with a strong myoga flavor. The service was friendly, with a Southeast Asian male server who was good at making recommendations. We ordered the limited special part called "tsunagi" for 140 yen each and a plate of liver for 380 yen. We chose the liver with sesame flavor. Tsunagi is a valuable part that connects the heart and liver, which has a good texture and is easy to eat. The liver was rich in flavor without a strong smell, and the sesame flavor was delicious. We also had bonjiri for 160 yen, chanja with cream cheese for 480 yen, tsukune stick for 160 yen, skin for 140 yen, potato butter for 300 yen, chicken thigh with grated radish and ponzu sauce for 580 yen, and chicken breast with wasabi for 190 yen. The bonjiri was fresh and decent, and the chanja with cream cheese had a good combination of textures and flavors. The tsukune had a salty taste, perfectly cooked, and not too sticky with sauce. The skin was grilled just right and paired well with salt. The chicken thigh with grated radish and ponzu sauce was ordered for a change of taste and was also delicious. Finally, the chicken breast with wasabi had a subtle spiciness that came after. We also tried the recommended frozen lemon sour for 400 yen, and a second glass for 300 yen. We were so full from all the chicken dishes that we didn't get to try the recommended "black yakisoba". The total bill for two people was around 8,700 yen including tax. Thank you for the delicious meal.
