Located just a short walk from Ueno-hirokoji Station, "Magurohito Ueno-hirokoji Branch" offers authentic Edo-style sushi in a standing sushi bar style, with prices starting at 80 yen per piece. The main store is in Shin-Nakamise Street in Asakusa, with additional branches in Kaminarimon, Okachimachi, and this Ueno-hirokoji Branch. Originally, the main store had a conveyor belt sushi system, but due to the pandemic, all stores now offer counter sushi, with standing sushi bars at each branch. The Ueno-hirokoji Branch is located between JR Okachimachi Station and Ginza Line Ueno-hirokoji Station, across from Ueno Matsuzakaya on Kasuga Street. The small entrance with a small curtain leads into a narrow space with only a counter with 8 seats in a straight line. The space is just the right size, with a space to place belongings and hangers under the counter for a comfortable dining experience. The menu offers nigiri sushi ranging from 80 yen to 580 yen per piece, and hand rolls for 230 yen. Check the board for the daily recommended nigiri and monthly special dishes. The dishes we ordered were: - Fresh saury (260 yen) - Flounder (260 yen) - Maguro 3-piece assortment (890 yen) - Ootoro, chutoro, akami - Kawahagi liver on top (580 yen) - Nodoguro (400 yen) - Grilled anago (260 yen) - Seared maguro head meat (340 yen) We spent about 20 minutes dining and the total bill was 2,990 yen (including tax). We arrived around 2 pm on a weekday with no other customers. We enjoyed all 9 pieces of nigiri, each with excellent freshness and preparation. The slightly small, softly packed rice was a good match for the toppings. The maguro assortment, made with specially selected maguro from the high-end maguro wholesaler "Yamayuki," stood out for its sweetness and aroma. Other rare cuts like hoho meat, hachinomis (head meat), ago meat, and kamatoro are also available for casual enjoyment. With a variety of toppings, sake, and a cozy atmosphere, it's easy to linger and enjoy. Definitely a great choice for satisfying your hunger with high-quality sushi. Make sure to check the recommended items posted in front before ordering. Open for almost a year during the pandemic, this standing sushi bar in Okachimachi is a hidden gem for a quick and delicious sushi lunch.

I visited after 1 pm. I had three types of tuna, three types of squid, shirako, amaebi, shako, and kuruma ebi. They were all delicious, but the kuruma ebi was particularly amazing as it was seared with a burner, giving off a delightful aroma even before being served. It was so good that I ended up ordering it again. I want to try other types of sushi next time!

I visited a standing sushi bar by myself around 5 pm. The sushi was delicious. However, when considering factors like cost performance, I might end up going to other sushi restaurants. I particularly like cheap squid, but unfortunately they were sold out when I tried to fill my stomach. This is just my impression for today, so it could be different on another day!

I have visited the Gotanda branch before and I remember the tuna from Yamasachi was really delicious. I didn't realize there was another branch nearby. Since this one was less crowded, I decided to stop by. I started with a three-piece tuna set. It was not bad, but it didn't taste as good as before. Maybe it depends on the timing of the procurement? The standout for me this time was the flounder fin. It was thick and had a satisfying chewiness. I ended up ordering it twice. Overall, the food was delicious, but the taste was not as good as last time. I wonder if there are differences between branches or if it's just a matter of timing.

This series of shops that I've been curious about for a while (lol), many people may be familiar with. They have great food at a reasonable price and the quality is top-notch. It's a stand-up style so you can eat quickly. I was satisfied with about 70% full stomach this day because I was eating around. Thank you for the meal, I will definitely go again.

I used the restaurant for lunch during work. - What I ate: Akami, Maguro, Chutoro, Aji, Isaki, Hamo, Awabi, Kuruma Ebi, Aori Ika, Unagi, Tamago, Akagai, Hotate, Kochi, Torigai - Taste: Tuna varieties are still delicious. The sushi was carefully made and the seasoning varied depending on the topping, which was pleasing. - Service: There were many regular customers, but the staff included me in the conversation without any distinction, making it a very comfortable experience.

Standing sushi × Ameyoko × Solo dining = Aria Aria Aria Aria Ueno Hirokoji Station, heading towards Ameyoko, I noticed a tuna sushi stand called Magurojin. Sushi for standing and eating!? I was intrigued and kept looking at it over and over again, until finally the day came when I visited! \ ↓ Check out the blog too ↓ / Magurojin Ueno Hirokoji Branch - Tried standing sushi for the first time! Is it cost-effective!? I went to check it out! ○ Solo dining available ○ Sushi served per piece ○ Small beer available △ Limited variety of miso soup △ Chawanmushi??? Was it there??? How is the standing dining style? I wondered, and when I entered the restaurant, I was told I could choose any spot I liked, so I went to a corner. A reassuring spot for dining solo. Now, as I looked at the menu, I saw that they had small beer for 300 yen, so I ordered one right away. A much-appreciated drink!! And so, I started with Kohada. It was quite good. Next, the highlight was the umeshiso. It had a homemade feel to it, and was quite good. I had over 10 pieces, but the most memorable was the spicy mentaiko hosomaki. It may affect the taste of the next sushi, so it's best to eat this last, or wait a while after eating it before moving on to the next one. The flying fish roe also had a unique texture that you can only find here, and it was delicious. The standard items were all slightly above average, but lacked that special feeling. In terms of cost-effectiveness, the quality of the ingredients was slightly above average, but since it's standing dining, it felt a bit questionable. Perhaps because it was midsummer, the rice was a bit sticky, which was not quite to my liking. Nevertheless, I believe the rice was delicious. There wasn't much of a sense of luxury, and the restaurant seems to be positioned as a place where you can enjoy sushi while drinking casually. However, there are cost-effective restaurants in Ameyoko, so it might be a bit tough to compete, and I personally felt that they could differentiate themselves a bit more. I didn't know about this shop before (^_^;) I often went to the Ueno branch, but this is my first time here. Well, the quality hasn't changed! It's delicious after all! I enjoyed delicious dishes like fresh seaweed, seasonal horse mackerel, and sardines with refills of draft beer and green tea highball. Thank you for the meal.

I bought a dorayaki and had some time before meeting for the 0th round, so I stopped by Magurojin Ueno Okachimachi branch that I found on the way and had a quick drink around 5:30 p.m. Just like the main store, the branch had only a counter seating, with three customers seated at the back. I was seated in the middle upon entering and ordered a light drink set for 850 yen. A draft beer was served immediately, and a set of three appetizers like an otoshi included maguro butsu, simmered asari clams, and umesuisho, which were to my liking. Since there was no showcase in front of me to pick sushi from, I looked through the menu. The good thing here is that you can order sushi by the piece, so I enjoyed a red shrimp for 290 yen, horse mackerel for 230 yen, cutlassfish for 290 yen, and a fatty tuna hand roll for 260 yen as a finishing touch. It was a quick and delicious meal.

I visited this place for a second round after a drinking party. It was around 9 pm and there were empty seats available. It's a standing sushi bar, so the turnover is quick. The tuna, as the name suggests, was thick and delicious. You can order one piece at a time, so it was nice to eat quickly and drink before heading home.

I entered for the first time and felt confused. I didn't know what to do at first and waited nervously. I asked the older lady working there how to order, and she explained that sushi should be ordered from the chef and drinks should be ordered at the counter. I was nervous, but the food was delicious. I liked the scallop, shrimp, seared salmon, fatty tuna, and seared eel. The seared salmon was my favorite!

I went to eat at the top tuna wholesaler in Japan, Yamako. I had the premium tuna three-piece set (otoro, chutoro, akami) with a set of draft beer (medium-sized glass and daily three-piece set). The otoro, chutoro, akami, kama toro, spear squid, kanpachi, seared chutoro, scallop, egg, negitoro roll - everything was incredibly delicious!

This time, I visited the Ueno Hirokoji store instead of the usual Okachimachi store. The quality is consistent and everything is delicious. There are many affordable sushi places in Ueno, but Magurojin is a good choice for reliable quality. Now is the season when flounder is delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Eating standing sushi where the rotation is slow is not ideal. I had to wait for over 30 minutes. The chef was taking it easy and even after ordering, there was still a wait, which is not suitable for someone like me who wants to eat quickly. The image of the restaurant can change significantly depending on the chef. It's much better than a place that focuses on serving quickly, but I think it's a good restaurant for a less crowded time on weekdays. I forgot to take a picture, but I recommend the sumiika (Japanese squid).

After leaving the first restaurant "Yakiton Maruwa," the second stop of the night is "Maguro Hito Ueno Hirokoji Branch." The visit time is 18:00. The interior of the restaurant is very small, with only a counter that can accommodate about 8 people. As I am alone, I easily find a spot at the back of the counter. The customers at this time are mostly office workers, both men and women. Later, they all leave and a group of foreign tourists accompanied by a guide enter the restaurant. Here is what I ordered: - Highball 400 yen - Sweet potato shochu on the rocks 550 yen - Shimesaba (pickled mackerel) 230 yen - Anago (conger eel) 260 yen - Maguro (tuna) three-piece assortment 890 yen - Uni (sea urchin) 580 yen - Shako (mantis shrimp) 260 yen - Hotaruika gunkan (firefly squid gunkan) 230 yen - Kodai no kobujime (marinated black porgy) 290 yen - Sayori (halfbeak) 260 yen I started with a Highball and then switched to sweet potato shochu on the rocks, which suited me better. The food was delicious, with highlights including the shimesaba, anago, and the maguro three-piece assortment, which featured red tuna, medium fatty tuna, and fatty tuna. The uni was a bit disappointing due to the strong taste of alum. The shako was a bit watery, but the hotaruika gunkan was delicious. The marinated black porgy had a firm texture and a rich flavor. The halfbeak was served with its skin, which was a delightful surprise. My top recommendation from this visit is the marinated black porgy. The seasonal fish was fresh and the service from the chef was excellent. Overall, I would rate this experience 3.5 out of 5. Thank you for the delicious sushi, I look forward to visiting again for more seasonal dishes.

I came here for the first time near Ueno Okachimachi Station. It's wider than the main store and can accommodate more people. The sushi here is consistently delicious! Even though it's a standing sushi bar, the quality of the fish is top-notch! I ordered the simmered squid, shad roe, and red snapper, but I ate them before taking a picture... I only managed to take a picture of the additional order of Thai cockle. There were people drinking from the afternoon, and they even have a cheap drinking set, so I want to use it next time.

Suddenly my plans fell through, so I decided to stop by for a bite before heading to the movies. It had been a while since I enjoyed a leisurely meal by myself. Even though I intended to keep it light, I ended up indulging in a full meal with beer. The prices are still reasonable here, and the food was delicious! Unfortunately, my favorite steamed abalone was sold out, which was a bit disappointing. Just be aware that recommended dishes may sell out. Sushi quality is great, value for money is good, service is good, and I will definitely be coming back!

Even though it was a bit later than lunchtime, there was still a line waiting! I was able to enjoy authentic Edomae sushi at a great cost performance! Personally, I love tuna, so I tried various cuts of tuna. The cheek meat was rare and I enjoyed it with salt and lemon. I also couldn't resist ordering the raw whale meat, which I had been curious about. I had it with just soy sauce. There were some cuts that were already sold out, so I definitely want to visit again! If you want to eat delicious food conveniently and affordably, I recommend visiting this place at least once. With many branches in Tokyo, you might find one nearby when you look into it.

<January 2023 Revisit> This is a standing sushi restaurant located near the Ueno Hirokoji intersection. The restaurant has multiple branches in Tokyo, with another branch in Okachimachi in this area. I have visited other branches before, and they are popular for offering delicious sushi at affordable prices in a casual standing style. On a certain weekday, I finished work earlier than expected and felt like having a drink somewhere other than my local area. I decided to explore the Ueno area after transferring on the Tokyo Metro, and I found this place with available seats near the intersection, so I revisited after about a year. I arrived around 5:30 pm on a weekday and was seated near the entrance. At this time, there were two chefs serving customers, including drinks during the idle time. I ordered: - White fish assortment (750 yen) - Kikumasamune Goka (550 yen) I started with a hot sake, which is my style at sushi restaurants. I enjoyed the Kikumasamune Goka sake hot and the white fish assortment including "striped jack," "red sea bream," and "yellowtail with yuzu." The red shrimp (290 yen) and seared kamasu (260 yen) were recommended dishes that I tried next. The seared kamasu had a firm texture and a delicious smoky flavor. The tuna marinated in soy sauce (260 yen) and the battleship sushi with shirako (290 yen) were also delightful. The marinated tuna had a perfect balance of flavor and texture, while the seasonal shirako melted in the mouth with rich umami. I ended with an eel assortment (780 yen) which included three different preparations of simmered eel. Each preparation had a unique flavor, but I personally enjoyed the eel with sauce the most. Overall, I believe that this restaurant and its affiliated branches are valuable for providing an easy and enjoyable sushi experience. I went to the restaurant after eating at the Okachimachi branch office and wanted to confirm that I didn't get a bad draw, so I came here. There was no line here, so I was able to enter smoothly. The Okachimachi branch office often has long lines, with a rating on Tabelog of 3.53. Here, the rating is 3.33. They provide paper towels here, while the other place had cloth towels. Is there a reason for this differentiation? I started with a draft beer (400 yen) here. Unlike the Okachimachi branch office's tuna feast, here they offer a tuna sampler with akami, chutoro, and otoro for 890 yen. The tuna looked beautiful and had wonderful colors. I tried the otoro and chutoro, and the richness of the fat was truly amazing. However, one thing that caught my attention was that although the sushi here was well-formed and not watery like before, the rice was noticeably less. The amount of rice was similar to Sushiro, with each piece feeling a bit loose, so it's hard to say which is the correct amount. Nonetheless, it was undeniably delicious. The mackerel was a big difference from before. The fish pieces were a bit small, but again, the rice portion was small. The amount of rice was cute. The mackerel was also quite different from before. We finished with some highballs and tried a variety of dishes. My companion ordered sea urchin and seemed to enjoy it. However, ordering tuna here seemed to be the best choice, focusing on akami and chutoro. The smaller rice portions made it possible to eat more, but the balance between the fish and rice was a bit off. Nevertheless, this place changed my perception of tuna from the previous experience. If I hadn't tried this place, my impression of tuna would not have been good. I would definitely want to come back here again.
