デイルス・マイビス
Popular restaurant in Ome, "Tsukemenya Menraku". It is a long-established shop that has been in business for 21 years and is inspired by "Marunaga Mejiro Store". This is my first visit to "Menraku", but I have previously visited "Tsukemen Menkichi" in Iruma, which also originated from "Menraku" in 2018. According to the owner of "Menkichi", the owner of "Menraku" used to work at "Mejimaru (Marunaga Mejiro Store)". The restaurant is located about a 12-minute walk from Kawabe Station, across the street from "Super Ozam". There are parking spaces for 7 cars, with 3 in front of the shop and 4 further away. They mainly offer toppings on tsukemen with rice dishes, with the following options:
- Tsukemen: 800 yen
- Special Tsukemen: 900 yen (larger portion)
- Char Siu Tsukemen: 1100 yen
- Wild Reed Tsukemen: 900 yen
You can choose regular (260g), large (1.5x portion for an additional 100 yen), or extra-large (2.0x portion for an additional 200 yen). The interior of the restaurant has 6 counter seats and 3 tables for 4 people, with 4 staff members. Even on weekdays, there may be a line, but they take orders while you wait and prepare the food quickly, serving about 8 dishes at a time. I ordered the Special Tsukemen for 900 yen and when asked if I was okay with spiciness and vinegar, I replied that I was. For an additional 100 yen, you get more toppings, and the dipping sauce is already filled with toppings. The noodles are firm and have a strong texture, typical of the delicious homemade noodles from the "Marunaga" style. The dipping sauce is not too much, and when you dip the noodles in, they don't get fully soaked. You need to press the noodles into the sauce to coat them. The first surprise is that the dipping sauce is quite warm from the beginning. It has a strong spiciness that can make you cough, along with a sweet and sour taste with the right amount of vinegar. There is also pepper in it, making the flavor intense and spicy. It may be surprising at first with its warmth and punch, but once you understand it, you will be captivated by its deliciousness. The focus is not on enjoying the broth but on how to eat the noodles deliciously with the dipping sauce. The toppings include sliced char siu, bamboo shoots, naruto fish cake, and green onions. These are important items to enhance the noodle-eating experience, especially the char siu, which releases a meaty flavor when chewed. Lastly, you can ask the staff to add soup to your remaining dipping sauce. This adds a comforting broth flavor, but your lips may still tingle from the spiciness. When I tried the disciple's "Menkichi" in 2018, the tsukemen had a hot and flavorful dipping sauce, so I wonder if "Menraku" has gradually changed to its current composition. It can be described as a boldly classic junk tsukemen with addictive qualities.
