I found a nice Japanese restaurant near Yushima Station by chance. It's not an izakaya, but a proper Japanese cuisine restaurant. They have a signboard with cedar balls hanging outside. I tried the "Fish Lunch 990 yen" today, which was "Mackerel with Lemon Juice". The daily specials include "Black Pork Shabu-Shabu Lunch 980 yen" and "Sashimi Lunch 1,100 yen" which also look delicious. The grilled mackerel is large and thick, with a plump appearance and delicious taste. You can eat it as is with lemon juice. The "Proud Hagi Rice" was freshly cooked and shiny. It seemed a bit moist, but it didn't affect the taste. The rice was delicious. It seems that the large hagi pot placed in front of me is their proud hagi pot! I enjoyed a delicious grilled fish set meal after a long time. Sometimes you have to eat proper fish dishes (lol).

Sashimi Lunch 1,100 yen Today, I had lunch in Yushima. I entered at 12:42, with 5 customers already inside and no customers behind me. The lunch menu includes: Tuna Sashimi Lunch 1,950 yen Sashimi Lunch 1,100 yen Fish Lunch 990 yen Daily Special Lunch 950 yen or 980 yen The price for the Daily Special Lunch varies depending on the menu. I was curious about the Sashimi Lunch, so I asked and they said it was made with tuna, so I ordered it without hesitation. It was served in about 4 minutes. The meal included simmered hijiki seaweed, tuna sashimi, miso soup, and pickles. The tuna included both lean red meat and medium fatty tuna. Both had a good amount of fat and were delicious. Especially the medium fatty tuna had a sweet richness that spread in my mouth. The rice was cooked slightly firm with some crispy bits, giving it a nice texture. The miso soup with tofu and seaweed had a gentle flavor. The portion was just right for someone with a light appetite. I enjoyed it very much. Visited for lunch on May 1, 2023. Rating: 3.35

I visited for lunch and had the daily special sashimi set meal. There was also a grilled fish set meal available. I chose the sashimi set meal. Jazz music played in the background, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The restroom was a bit small, but overall it was a comfortable dining experience. The sashimi was delicious, and the miso soup was made from fish broth, which complemented the rice well. I ended up getting a second serving.

I tried entering a small restaurant in Yushima for the first time. The interior was clean with counter seats facing the kitchen and table seats. Since the menu mainly focuses on fish, I decided to go for the sashimi, which allows you to taste the flavors well. I was torn between the sashimi lunch and the bluefin tuna sashimi lunch, but ultimately chose the bluefin tuna. The lunch comes with miso soup, pickles, and a small side dish, and the very simple miso soup with seaweed and tofu was surprisingly delicious. With that, my expectations for the bluefin tuna grew. The bluefin tuna, which was served in eight thick slices on a plate, was cut thick and was at the level of medium fatty tuna. When I put it in my mouth, it was soft and melted, with no toughness at all. I thought 1950 yen was a bit expensive, but considering you get 8 pieces of bluefin tuna medium fatty tuna, it's satisfying. This makes me want to try other menu items like grilled fish as well.

The weather has been gloomy for the past 2-3 days, which is not good for the physical and mental well-being of the writer. Apart from the extension of the state of emergency until the end of September, the writer is also feeling unwell due to the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine received yesterday. The left arm is sore, and there is a slight fever, making it difficult to concentrate. Additionally, the writer is feeling stressed due to a new manager from Osaka with an unpleasant voice. To escape the situation, the writer decides to visit a restaurant in Yushima for lunch. The restaurant is called "Izumi" and is located near Yushima Station. The writer enjoys a delicious daily set meal with charcoal-grilled pork, and praises the quality of the rice served. Despite the challenging circumstances, the writer looks forward to visiting the restaurant again in the future.

The other day, I discovered this restaurant on my way back after lunch. The A-type signboard outside mentioned that the daily special was fried chicken and the fish lunch was grilled mackerel. When I entered around 12:30, the restaurant was about 80% full. I was seated at the counter facing the kitchen, which was separated by acrylic panels. The seat I was guided to was unusually hot, right in front of the grill. The waitress came to take my order, but they had run out of mackerel, so I ended up ordering the grilled salmon instead with a lighter rice portion. It cost 980 yen. Although there were no issues this time, I thought it would be better if they mentioned any menu changes upon entering the restaurant. Maybe they had just sold out right before I arrived. The food seemed to be cooked slowly, and it was served after a short wait. The meal included rice, miso soup, grilled salmon, simmered hijiki seaweed, and pickles, but it felt a bit small in terms of volume. The grilled salmon seemed to be cooked too strong, which made it slightly salty without much fatty taste on the surface. Next time, I plan to try the daily special or sashimi.

It's hot! I aimed for a simple meal with cold soba noodles, but the uphill climb felt endless. I couldn't find the energy to continue. It was too hot. I ended up veering off to the north on a side street just west of Shobuhashi-dori, a street I pass by quite often. I've seen "Izumimi" for years now. Maybe they don't get many customers for Japanese food. It was hot, so I decided to give it a try. When I entered, they told me, "We're sold out of everything except for Menkue's Saikyo grilled fish and sashimi set." The menu decision seemed automated. The grilled fish was quite tasty, but unexpectedly, I found a really delicious restaurant later. It turned out to be a chain restaurant, which was a bit disappointing. The chain restaurant was actually better. It was just bad timing. The sashimi was decent in terms of temperature and flavor. It's understandable that the portion was small. It would be nice if they had a sashimi set with more variety. The small portion sashimi set was reasonable. The grilled fish was unexpectedly overcooked; the thick, juicy meat was completely dried out. It felt like a pub's lunch atmosphere, maybe due to the heat. The carefully grilled fish may have lost its flavor. It's nice that they offer additional menu items like mentaiko, tamagoyaki, and miso soup, but they were just average. Maybe my expectations for a traditional Japanese meal were too high. It seems difficult to find a good traditional meal at a reasonable price nowadays. Finished my meal - Note to self: [N.M.N.]

During my last visit, the chef mentioned that there would be a special "ankou nabe day" coming up soon, so I decided to join in right away. It was my first time trying ankou, so I was excited and headed to Izumi no Aji in Yushima with anticipation. Today's ankou came from Yochi, Hokkaido, weighing 8 and 2 kilograms. We started with the appetizers, which were the same as last time - freshly made yuba and nanohana with crab meat. For drinks, we had bottled beer and Sato (wheat) ankou course. We started with ankou sashimi served on a stylish bright green plate. The flesh, stomach, skin, and liver all had a unique flavor and great texture. The skin was surprisingly delicious, and the liver went well with ponzu sauce. The ankou tempura was perfectly fried. The ankou nabe had liver miso spread on the edge of the pot, which added a rich flavor. We had a variety of ankou parts in the pot, which was too much for two people to finish. We ended the meal with ankou liver soup udon, which was smooth and satisfying. For dessert, we had fried sesame dumplings, which had a mild sweetness and served as a perfect palate cleanser. It was a wonderful evening enjoying high-quality fish. Thank you for the delicious meal.

In mid-January on a Monday at 6:00 PM without a reservation. There was one other group of customers. Since it was a walk-in visit today, we ordered a la carte. The appetizer was boiled yuba and nanohana ohitashi (with crab meat). The appetizer is always elegant and uplifting. The sashimi platter included hirame (flounder), madai (red sea bream), kuromutsu (black sea bass), kuchijiro (Island sea bream), akamutsu (red sea perch), suzuki (sea bass), and tuna in the center. We also ordered fried chicken, grilled silver cod with miso, fried ginnan (ginkgo nuts), and simmered bamboo shoots and beef tendon (not on the menu). It was a quiet and calm atmosphere for a Monday dinner. The chef seemed a bit under the weather, but still provided attentive hospitality as always. We ordered the chef's choice sashimi platter and it was all white fish. The fish slices were fresh and beautifully arranged on a vivid green plate. The last order was a bit early at 8:30 PM. If you plan to drink alcohol, it's best to arrive by at least 7:00 PM to have a relaxing time. Thank you for the delicious meal.

It's been a while since my last visit. Today, my husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary with a meal. When making a reservation, we were torn between the shabu-shabu course and the fugu course, and finally decided on the 9,500 yen Izumi Fugu Course! The Izumi Fugu Course includes: - Appetizer: Ankimo with ponzu sauce, Tempura of Tsukiyama wild mushrooms, Fugu skin with ponzu sauce, Thinly sliced fugu sashimi, Karaage (fried chicken), Chiri-nabe (hot pot), Zosui (rice soup) served in a tea bowl, Pickles, Mizugashi (water dessert) - Matcha ice cream and hojicha tea As always, the cooking was meticulous and the taste was impeccable. Fugu is the best!!! It was my first visit since March last year, and the restaurant was bustling with energy even though it was a Wednesday in the middle of the week. It seemed like one of the kitchen apprentices had left or was on break, as the head chef was handling everything alone in the kitchen. Despite being busy, he handled interactions with customers in a gentlemanly manner. His professional skills were evident in the sound of dropping fryer paper while plating sashimi and the beautiful deep-fried tempura. Recently, they have started serving dinner sets for office workers in the neighborhood who work late, in addition to lunch. If you want a hearty meal, these dinner sets are a great option. They are not listed on the menu, so consult with the head chef.

This is not a casual eatery, but a traditional Japanese restaurant. Skilled chefs prepare the dishes here. The entrance may not be large, but the interior has a nice atmosphere with a counter and tables. For lunch, they offer a fish lunch and a daily special for only 900 yen. Today's special was horse mackerel fry and pork cutlet. The side dish of dried radish and miso soup with seaweed and tofu were delicious. I'll try the fish lunch next time. I also want to come back for dinner.

I visited for lunch. It was a bit late for lunch, around 1 o'clock, so there were only about 3 other customers. The appearance and interior were clean and I was seated at the counter, but it was so comfortable that I thought it would be nice to come back for drinks at night. I had the black cod teriyaki for lunch. They serve brown rice on even-numbered days and white rice on odd-numbered days, and I happened to go on a white rice day. The rice and fish were delicious, and the atmosphere was great, so I would like to come back again.

Today's lunch report comes from Yushima. I visited "Washoku Mishozumi" which is a hidden gem off the main street. I ordered the "Sashimi Lunch for 1,050 yen". The sashimi arrived in about 1 minute after ordering, which is probably due to the area being busy with salarymen. The sashimi lunch was elegant in presentation but lacked in portion size. The sashimi itself was delicious and paired well with the firm rice. It would have been better with a side dish to make it more satisfying. Many local regulars seemed to order the daily special, so I would like to try that next time as the food quality seems reliable at this place.

I ordered grilled fish again, even though I had a bad experience with it before. The fish was supposed to be tender, but it ended up being overcooked and chewy. On the bright side, the skin was crispy and delicious.

Today's special option was deep-fried chicken cutlet with a crispy texture on the outside and moist inside when mixed with the broth, it was delicious. The only downside was that there was only one server for the whole restaurant.

Today, I checked in with three of my colleagues at the company. There was no lunch left, so I decided to go with the sashimi set. It cost ¥1,000 and I could get free rice refills. The freshness of the sashimi was really good.
