野良パンダム
First visit. The name of the restaurant, St. Paul, is not named after the city in Minnesota, USA, but probably after the English name of Rikkyo University. And yes, the location of this restaurant is right next to Rikkyo University. So, the location of the restaurant is literally the name of the restaurant. Although the restaurant is labeled as a restaurant, the atmosphere inside is more like a cafe. And a pretty old-fashioned one at that. Due to its location, most of the posters and photos displayed inside are related to Rikkyo University. Hmm? That black and white photo... could it be a snapshot of Sugihara Tadashi and Mr. from their Rikkyo University days? Apart from the regular meal menu, there are also dessert menus and light meal menus like hamburgers available, but today's order has already been decided. White Cutlet Bowl (that's really the name of the dish). Since the drinks were cheap, I ended up getting a drink set. The total is 900 yen. I ordered an iced coffee for the drink. It seemed like there was only one person cooking, so it took a little while for the food to be served, but I wasn't bored as the items displayed in the store were quite interesting. Now, the served Cutlet Bowl... well, first take a look at the photo. It looks quite different from what we would imagine a Cutlet Bowl to be. It consists of three stick-shaped cutlets with grated yam on top, and also kimchi, soft-boiled egg, and chopped seaweed? Quite bizarre... Well, let's try it anyway. There is a slightly sweet soy sauce dip on the side, so I'll drizzle some before eating. The meat is chicken, not pork. There is almost no fat, so it must be chicken breast, right? It is moist and well cooked, surprisingly good for breast meat. The meat itself is average due to the price, but it is fried nicely. The batter is light and crispy, which is good. The cutlet has a refreshing taste, so you might think it's not satisfying enough, but the flavors of kimchi and grated yam make it more flavorful than expected. The soft-boiled egg is delicious when mixed with the grated yam. Although it looks strange, the taste is quite good. The side ingredients successfully complement the lack of flavor in the meat, making it a satisfying bowl. This is a victory of ideas. It is probably invented to provide students with cheap, delicious, nutritious, and filling food... that's what I think. Normally, I wouldn't enjoy eating chicken breast, but this one is delicious. The warm and friendly service of the staff also made me feel relaxed. There are also interesting photos displayed that might be of interest to university baseball fans or professional baseball fans, so it might be fun to go there for that reason as well.
