Located in Azabu-Juban, the soba dining "Azabu Kawakami-an" main store is a renowned soba restaurant in Karuizawa. The image is of an Edo period soba shop where commoners enjoyed the sophistication. They use specially ordered millstones to grind their own buckwheat flour every day. The coarse-ground buckwheat flour and clean water used to make the noodles result in a fragrant and unique texture. The Azabu store has a cozy atmosphere, and the operation is run by a company founded in 2004 by a soba craftsman from Karuizawa and a securities man from Tomioka. They now have 38 stores in locations such as Karuizawa, Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, and Singapore. The menu includes dishes like "Oyster Tempura Soba" and "Oyster Tempura Soba (Hot)". The coffee and desserts are also recommended. The soba is served with a delicious dipping sauce, and the oysters are from Hiroshima. The meal is finished with soba broth. For dessert, they offer a smooth almond tofu. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere, with a good selection of drinks, appetizers, and course meals. The service is also very pleasant.

On a Saturday night at 9 pm, I visited a slightly quiet atmosphere in Azabu-Juban, thinking of having some soba for dinner. The restaurant was almost full, but I was able to secure the last available seat. The interior was lively and elegant, with a chic and sophisticated feel, perfect for a Japanese-style izakaya. The sashimi of flounder and squid was delicious, with a nice texture, especially when paired with myoga. The pork and mushroom with ponzu sauce was also a hit, the slightly thick pork slices complemented the ponzu sauce perfectly. The restaurant seemed like a place where you could enjoy the food even without the soba. The dashimaki tamago was a classic dish, light in flavor. The soba itself was simple and universally liked, with a sweet and rich broth. The three pieces of duck meat were perfectly seared and had a delightful smoky flavor, making it a great accompaniment to drinks. The soba didn't overpower the other dishes, making it a stylish and delicious option for a meal. I sometimes visit their branch in Karuizawa, and it seems like they have a reputation for creating trendy and tasty dishes in places like Shibuya, Azabu-Juban, and Aoyama. As I slurped my soba, I couldn't help but think that I would continue to patronize such restaurants in the future.

The day before, I went to Karuizawa for fun and ate delicious soba. I wanted to eat it again, so I looked it up and found out that there is a soba restaurant in Azabu. Maybe it was because of the laughing gas, but the atmosphere there was different from Karuizawa. I enjoyed the meal very much. Thank you for the delicious food.

Stable Azabu-Juban Kawakami-an. The soba noodles are usually served cold, but on this day they were warm. I still prefer them cold. I had a lot of soba dishes, drank about 3 cups of sake, and it cost ¥7,500 for one person, so I really love having soba and drinks at soba restaurants. Here is what I ordered:
- Assorted pickles
- Myoga ginger marinated in Tosazu vinegar
- Pickled Nozawana greens
- Duck and wasabi
- Tempura soba noodles
- Soba noodles in grated nagaimo yam and dipping sauce
- Homemade soba miso
- Rolled omelette with dashi broth
- Shinshu miso simmered offal
- Shiitake mushrooms grilled with soy sauce
- Soba tea
- Duck and green onion soba

I was interested in a popular soba restaurant in Karuizawa. The ingredients used are good, and the freshly fried tempura was excellent. There was a long line at most places in Karuizawa, but we were able to get in here without waiting. However, if you arrive right at opening time at 11 am, you may not be able to get in until around 11:30 am. The soba noodles are thick and have a good texture, but the tempura was so delicious that the soba flavor didn't stand out much. Overall, it was just a good soba restaurant.

I went to have lunch at a soba noodle restaurant. The seasonal special was "Eel and Summer Vegetable Tempura Soba", but they only had one serving left, so I decided to have the "Mixed Tempura Soba" instead. The tempura was huge, about 5cm thick, with pumpkin, burdock, lotus root, small shrimp, sakura shrimp, and squid. The soba noodles were thick and chewy, served in a slightly spicy broth. It was delicious.

I visited a soba restaurant called "Azabu Kawakami-an" on a weekday evening in August 2023, around 7 pm. Located about a 3-4 minute walk from Azabu-Juban station, the restaurant is on the basement floor of a building. The spacious and calm atmosphere was filled with about 80% of customers. Although we didn't have a reservation, we were lucky to find an available table for two. We ordered sake, appetizers, and soba. I enjoyed a glass of "Kurosawa Namazume Junmai Sake" for ¥1,067, which had a nice balance of lightness and the richness of rice flavor. We were served with cucumber and pickled wasabi as a starter, which paired perfectly with the sake. The pickled wasabi with high-quality horseradish was very flavorful. We also ordered "Salted Squid with Seasoned Vegetables" for ¥902, which was a refreshing dish of salted cucumber, squid, and myoga ginger. The texture of the squid was delightful, and the delicate seasoning and aroma balance were exquisite. It paired well with the sake and we finished it quickly. For the main dish, we had "Duck Soba" for ¥2,090, which consisted of duck meat and leeks in a dipping sauce with soba noodles. The broth had a strong umami flavor from the duck, and dipping the soba in it was a delightful experience. The pleasant aroma of the soba and the sweet broth created a perfect balance. The size and juiciness of the duck meat were just right. We thoroughly enjoyed the Duck Soba with the sake, reaching a state of bliss from its deliciousness. After finishing the soba and ingredients, we poured soba-yu (soba water) into the remaining dipping sauce to savor it to the last drop. "Kawakami-an" offers high-quality appetizers and soba, paired with carefully selected sake, for a delightful dining experience. It's a great choice when you're looking for a step above the typical soba shop in town. The calm atmosphere and cozy feeling of the restaurant were also charming.

I revisited the restaurant on a weekday during a heatwave at lunchtime. I had made a reservation so I didn't have to wait, but surprisingly it was quite crowded for a weekday. I ordered the lunch course 2 for ¥2860 (tax included). The staff were efficient and the cold soba noodles were delicious, with a flavorful dipping sauce that I really enjoyed. For dessert, I chose the cream anmitsu which I had been craving. I love soba noodles so I would love to visit this restaurant again and again.

Just a 5-minute walk from Azabu-Juban Station towards Minami-Azabu, you'll find a surprisingly spacious restaurant located in the basement of a building. The high ceilings and adult atmosphere make it a hidden gem for soba lovers. Whether it's lunch or dinner, you can enjoy sake and delicious soba noodles in a rich and comfortable setting.

At the popular soba restaurant "Kawakami-an" in Asakusa, I happened to stop by for lunch on the weekend and found quite a long line. After waiting for about 30 minutes, I finally got a seat. I planned to have a quick soba meal, but ended up ordering the "Lunch Course 2" with beer and duck simmered soba. While enjoying the 5 types of appetizers and tempura, I had a great time drinking Ebisu and Amber Ebisu beers. When at Kawakami-an, I tried the "Kurumi-dare Soba" with plenty of walnuts in the sauce, which was rich and delicious. The "Duck Simmered Soba" I tried for the first time had a large piece of duck meat and was very satisfying, with the rich flavor of duck and the grilled leeks complementing each other perfectly.

We visited around 6:00 pm with three women. We made a reservation by phone the day before, but the reserved seats were full, so we had to take non-reserved seats on the day of our visit. We ordered one beer and soba highball, as well as corn tempura, myoga pickles, thick-fried tofu, rolled soba noodles with walnut sauce for three people, which cost 5,500 yen in total. Everything had a refined taste, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was stylish. It's recommended for those who want to enjoy a leisurely meal. My favorite was the soba highball! I usually don't like highballs, but the one here was really delicious!

A close friend and I decided to grab a quick meal with two other friends, and since it was hot out, we thought some refreshing soba would be perfect. We ended up at Kawakami-an, which never disappoints and always serves delicious food. I didn't take any photos, but there was this appetizer with beans that I wouldn't usually order, but it was surprisingly tasty. It felt like something I would enjoy with a beer at home. We also ordered simmered tomatoes and eggplant, rolled omelette, and finished off with tempura soba. Everything was delicious. The restaurant was busy as usual, but not too loud, making it a comfortable place to dine. It's conveniently located nearby, so I'll definitely be back soon.

I arrived at around 12:30. Since it was lunch time, the restaurant was quite crowded and I had to wait for about 20 minutes before being seated. I ordered duck soba and dashimaki tamago. The dashi was just right, very elegant and delicious. The dashimaki tamago was fluffy and gentle, a taste that would appeal to everyone. The interior was very stylish and it's great that they are open all day from lunchtime. There are also terrace seats in front of the entrance, making it a wonderful place where pet owners can also enjoy.

My favorite restaurant in Ginza seems to be managed by Sanada, but they don't have 100% buckwheat soba, and the soba noodles they serve are quite firm, and the soba soup is completely different. There were no menu items that I wanted to eat, so if I want to eat soba at this restaurant, I'll go to Ginza Sanada (laughs). The atmosphere is nice though, it's a shame.

A soba restaurant in Azabu-Juban that is a favorite spot for my friends. I thought it might be far from the station when I looked at the map, but it only took about 4 minutes on foot from Azabu-Juban Station exit 1. The restaurant is located on the basement floor, and it seems that dogs are allowed at the outdoor seating. We had made a reservation, so we were seated upstairs. Here are the prices including tax: - Salted squid with condiments: 902 yen - Yubari ginger wrapped in meat: 1,023 yen (3 pieces, we asked for 4) - Corn tempura: 1,067 yen - Duck meat tataki: 1,496 yen - Nozawana (pickled vegetables): 632 yen - Ankake beans: 605 yen - Lotus root and shrimp tempura: 1,320 yen - Rolled omelette: 1,045 yen - Fresh wheat gluten in two flavors: served with delicious miso - Soba with miso sauce: the texture of the soba was great - Fried chicken: also delicious - Soba gaki: 935 yen - Walnut sauce cold soba: 1,430 yen - Cold soba: 1,012 yen We ordered 2 servings of soba for 4 people, and it was quite filling and delicious. We also had endless servings of sake, and the total bill was less than 10,000 yen per person. It was a great value soba restaurant in Azabu-Juban, and I would love to go back again.

I visited the famous Kawakami-an in Karuizawa with high expectations. It was convenient to be able to make a reservation. I had the "Ten-seiro Kamishita" (around 2500 yen) and my companion had the "Duck Stew" (around 2000 yen). The tempura had large shrimp, which was nice, but the batter was a bit oily, which was disappointing. The soba noodles had a good texture, but the flavor was not as rich as the Shinshu soba I had in Karuizawa. The cozy atmosphere and the friendly staff made up for it though. Thank you for the meal.

This restaurant is very Japanese, traditional, delicious, and dog-friendly. The seating is spacious and has a nice atmosphere, and the service is excellent, which is rare to find in a restaurant. It's a soba restaurant with an izakaya vibe. All the dishes were delicious. The terrace seating is on the basement floor, so there is no wind, making it suitable even on rainy or cold days. The interior design is impressive, making it feel like a nice izakaya rather than a cheap one or a food stall. It's a bit upscale and a great place to bring foreign friends. The lotus root wrapped in Shinshu beef is a must-try, although it's a bit pricey and not a large portion, so you may not want to order it every time. The soft-boiled umaki is also worth trying. The miso stewed offal and fried tofu are delicious but I only order them when I feel like it. The tempura and fried chicken are must-orders every time. They are reasonably priced, generous in portion, and delicious! The duck and mustard greens dish is a special on the menu, so if it's available, definitely order it. I highly recommend the duck soba. The portion is large, so it's best to share with two or three people if ordering other dishes.

I visited Kawakami-an after a long time. They offer not only soba noodles but also side dishes, so I often come here at night. I ordered lotus root and shrimp tempura, as well as pork and komatsuna stir-fried with ponzu sauce. Since the duck simmered soba was sold out, I ordered duck nanban soba instead. It was delicious.

- Location: Located in a residential area with a shop in the basement.
- Interior: Very stylish and visiting gives a sense of excitement.
- Food: Both soba and tempura are of high quality but the portions may seem small.
- Service: High level of hospitality from the staff.
- Price: To be honest, it is on the higher side.
- Overall: The taste is undeniably good, but the prices are high. It may be difficult for the average salaryman to use it for lunch.

I wanted to have a casual drinking and soba noodle night, so I wandered around Roppongi to Azabu-Juban. I was looking for a restaurant with unique and delicious appetizers, as I didn't want to pay ¥800 for a simple dish like pickles. I found "Kawakami-an," a stylish restaurant with a trendy staircase leading to the underground entrance. The interior was a mix of concrete and traditional Japanese elements, creating a lively atmosphere. I ordered a tofu platter with three different types of tofu: silk, cotton, and sesame. The silk tofu was the most delicious, with a rich soybean flavor. The cotton tofu was firm and had a pleasant texture, while the sesame tofu was surprisingly light. I also tried the Inariage, a dish of deep-fried lotus root and shrimp. I switched to cold sake and was intrigued by the soba noodles menu. I asked the staff about the difference between "Duck Nanban Soba" and "Duck Stew Nanban Soba." The Duck Stew Nanban Soba had tender duck wings simmered until the meat fell off the bone, creating a rich and flavorful dish. I decided to try both versions, and they were both incredibly delicious. The Duck Stew Nanban Soba, in particular, had a strong duck fat aroma that enhanced the broth's flavor. I regretted not ordering a large portion, as I was still hungry on the way home. It was a fantastic find, and I will definitely come back to this area of Azabu-Juban.
