I visited a newly opened affordable authentic Chinese restaurant in Yotsuya Sanchome on January 13th. The restaurant, called Kai Ken, took over the location where a local Chinese restaurant called Juraku used to be. It is located a 2-minute walk from Yotsuya Sanchome Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, and a 10-minute walk from Yotsuya Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, Namboku Line, JR Chuo Line, and Sobu Line. The restaurant used to be a political party office for about 8 months after Juraku closed down a year ago. The opening promotion offered all lunch dishes for 100 yen during the first 7 days from January 13th to January 19th.
When I visited for lunch on January 18th around 12:30 pm, the restaurant was almost full, but I managed to get a table near the entrance. The menu had handwritten options like chicken and vegetable black miso stir-fry, leek and shrimp omelet, and green pepper shredded pork, each priced at 850 yen. The lunch sets included pickled vegetables, rice, soup, and almond tofu. There were also noodle set menus available for 1,000 yen, with options like Shanghai pickled vegetable noodles, five-ingredient tanmen, Sichuan dan dan noodles, char siu noodles, mala noodles, beef noodles, mapo tofu noodles, and sanla noodles.
I ordered the chicken and vegetable black miso stir-fry, which was delicious and well worth the price. The dish had a generous amount of chicken and vegetables, and the black miso sauce was flavorful. The side dishes like the dumplings and almond tofu were also tasty. Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Kai Ken and would consider visiting again if it was closer to my home.
