September 12, 2019. Lunch visit to a sushi restaurant along Harumi Street in Tsukiji that doesn't stand out. The restaurant is quiet and unassuming, but the food is delicious. During lunchtime, there are hardly any customers. Yet, the sushi is delicious. They serve typical Edomae-style nigiri sushi, and on this day I had a plum nigiri. First, a mini salad with salted kelp and ponzu dressing was served. The nigiri included flounder, squid, baby tuna, lean tuna, medium fatty tuna, prawn, salmon roe, rolled omelette, and egg. A total of 9 pieces. The flounder was particularly good, with a nice firm texture and aging. The squid was also seasonal and delicious. The prawn was large. The sushi rice was slightly sticky. All this for 1700 yen, I think it's a good balance of taste and price.

Located near Tsukiji intersection, the longstanding Etchigo Sushi offers an omakase course for 5000 yen, along with a 700 yen glass of dry sake. The master is knowledgeable about sake and will assist with your selection. The meal starts with salted Kinmedai and squid sushi, perfect for those who enjoy sushi with salt. The real wasabi and soy sauce are particularly delicious. The meal is satisfying with each piece, and it seems the master has a special focus on tuna. For the finale, you can choose your favorite, and I opted for the ark shell. I also ordered the toro taku, which was almost entirely toro with a nice touch of pickled daikon. This place offers amazing value for money. High-ranking individuals were seen dining here, which is not surprising. The interior has a Showa era feel, but it is kept clean. The appetizers being enjoyed by the patrons next to me looked incredibly delicious, so I look forward to returning for a leisurely meal.

I want to see the energetic and beautiful young proprietress again. It's been a while since I last saw her, but the master and everyone else have lovely smiles. For those who don't like high-end sushi in Ginza, I recommend it. Of course, the taste is unbeatable!

I was deeply moved by the sea urchin and thread-sail filefish.

People working in the Ginza area usually don't eat sushi in Tsukiji (excuse me). However, I was taken to this place by an acquaintance whose friend works there. The prices for drinks are reasonable (3000 yen for a bottle of shochu), and we enjoyed sashimi, grilled dishes, and nigiri. The counter seats were full, so we sat at a table, but we could feel the energy and skill of the chef. It seems like a convenient "sushi restaurant where you can drink" in the Tsukiji area.

Lunch on August 18, 2014 (Monday). Business people who have finished their Obon holiday are returning to the city. However, the vacation mood still lingers on their shoulders and backs. That was the atmosphere in Tokyo on this day. I ordered the cheapest umesushi (one serving) from the menu, priced at 1500 yen. It came out in two pieces at a time - sea bream, lean tuna, shrimp, squid, salmon roe, tuna roll, and egg. The sushi had a good thickness of topping and a generous amount of rice, providing a satisfying bite. While it wasn't exceptionally delicious, the sushi chef's welcoming demeanor made the experience enjoyable. It was a place that made me feel welcomed and comfortable, making me want to visit again. *I had already eaten the squid before taking a photo. There was actually squid next to the tuna.

On this day, I had the opportunity to join K-senpai's lunch plan, which took us to Tsukiji Outer Market for the first time. After exploring the market, we headed towards Echigo Sushi located slightly east of Ginza, at the intersection of Harumi-dori and Shiodome-dori. The lunch menu offered options like the 1200 yen Tekka Don, Anago Don, and Seafood Don (limited to 15 servings each), as well as the 1500 yen Special Bara Chirashi and Nigiri "Ume". Despite it being a Friday, there were no customers when we arrived, but a regular customer later ordered the omakase. I decided to try the Special Bara Chirashi, which was a delightful mix of various seafood including sea urchin, earning it the nickname "jewelry box". The tea and miso soup were also delicious, and I would rate it a high score of 4 stars. The master and the female owner were very kind, making it a relaxing place to enjoy a meal.

From the intersection of Tsukiji 4-chome on Harumi Street, if you walk to the right towards Ginza, you will find it at the first corner of the alley. There is no lunch menu displayed, only the regular menu. They offer limited quantity donburi menu as a service, and the special bara chirashi seems like a good deal. I ordered the Matsuribune nigiri set which includes white fish, lean tuna, shrimp, squid, horse mackerel, mackerel, sardine, gizzard shad, fatty tuna, shellfish, salmon roe, tekka maki, tamagoyaki, pickled ginger, miso soup, and green tea. The quality of the fish is good. The rice portion is generous and I left feeling full. The restaurant has a slightly larger counter with 12 seats. The pickled ginger is also delicious.

Sushi is typically made by hand, so I also eat it with my hands. It's like a handshake, a sign of trust. In fact, I think you can't eat it if you don't trust the person making it. I instinctively avoid frequenting eateries, especially sushi restaurants, because it's often said that you can't judge them from just one visit. But ultimately, I'm not looking for a deep understanding, just that initial feeling. The tension of a first encounter brings true vulnerability. I don't like small talk, as it doesn't lead to true vulnerability. I don't ask questions, I just want to feel the other person without understanding them. I want to eat with my hands to feel the other person. I want to feel without understanding. The sushi chef's hands are like a fisherman's, with a natural simplicity. I receive a plate of sushi, but the impressions quickly fade away. The flavors are subtle, the rice is not too firm or too soft. The sushi disappears once eaten, leaving only a hint of its presence. The miso soup is simple, the pickled ginger has a delicate touch. The tea is gentle. "Thank you for the meal." Oh, I just saw this person's upward glance for the first time.
