Recently, I've been feeling like I've been indulging too much, but I really wanted to eat eel, so I couldn't help it... I visited Kobayashi-san and ordered the eel bowl lunch for 2300 yen. It was served in about 10 minutes. The sauce, with a mild sweetness and a sharp soy sauce flavor, was delicious. The eel, grilled to a crispy texture, smelled so good that the rice alone seemed appetizing. I put my chopsticks into the eel and cut it into bite-sized pieces... When I took a bite, the crispy skin and the mild sweetness of the soy sauce sauce matched perfectly and tasted delicious. The mild sweetness is the key. I also like sweet sauce, but today, the mild one seems to be the best. The miso soup and pickles were just average. I was surprised when I entered the restaurant because it was operated by three women. In the eel restaurants I had visited before, I had only seen men working at the grill station... It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

My companion wanted to eat eel, so we went to a quaint-looking restaurant near Alta for our meeting. The eel rice bowl costs 4730 yen. The amount of eel was decent, but there was slightly not enough rice, so we wanted a refill.

- Order: Eel rice bowl 2,300 yen - Wait: No wait at 13:00 on weekdays, 50% crowded inside - Seating: 1st floor has 4 counter seats, 2 tables for 4 people, and 1 tatami area for 4 people - Background music: Not playing, can hear the cooking sounds while waiting - Eating: Eel bowl arrived quickly, opening the lid released a fragrant aroma. The eel was beautifully grilled with a crispy texture. The sauce was subtly sweet with a strong soy sauce flavor. The eel was cooked in the Kanto style, giving it a fluffy texture. The miso soup in between was refreshing. The sauce on the rice was perfect, not too heavy. - Impression: Enjoyed a quiet meal in the bustling center of Shinjuku. Will definitely come back.

As I was walking down the street, I came across a sign for eel bowl and couldn't help but go in. The inside of the restaurant had a cozy atmosphere. When I ordered the eel bowl, it was brought to me in about 10 minutes. The sauce was not too sweet, allowing me to enjoy the taste of the eel itself. I thought it was a good deal for 2,300 yen. Thank you for the delicious meal! (^ ^)

I will have the grilled eel rice bowl for 4,730 yen, plus the liver appetizer for 330 yen, totaling 5,060 yen. It was around 1pm on the weekend and the restaurant was almost full. I sat at the counter. The place was bustling with foreign customers. Skewers were steamed in large quantities and grilled vigorously. The eel was cooked well, but towards the end, it became a bit tough to eat. The sauce was slightly sweet. The skin was nicely grilled, giving a fatty texture. The tail end was a bit dry. The restaurant has a great location, and I felt like I had to try it at least once, but the price compared to the quality of the eel was a bit disappointing.

Visited a volunteer activity today in December 2022, which ended successfully. After being done around noon, I decided to drop by a nearby eel restaurant before heading back to the station. I went for the eel rice bowl priced at 2300 yen, with an additional Black Label for a midday drink, totaling 3400 yen. The surface of the eel was crispy, while the inside was tender. The Edo-style sauce was not too rich, yet full of flavor. Perhaps due to its location, the price was a bit on the higher side. The shop's name is Kobayashi, but the rare butterfly crest caught my attention. I'm not sure if it comes from the Kammu Heishi clan or if it's a female crest. Regardless, it was a delightful meal.

I went to this restaurant for lunch because the nearby udon shop was closed. I didn't want to compromise on the quality of the eel, so I ordered the most expensive item on the menu, the special eel rice bowl. I was surprised to find that both the eel and the rice were mushy. I never thought I would get indigestion from eating eel. The restaurant is located right near Shinjuku Station on a busy corner. It made me realize that location is crucial in business.

I was introduced by a customer and had lunch there. I had the eel rice bowl. The eel was tender and the amount of rice was just right. Since becoming a working adult, I have been eating eel more often. I now feel like a true working adult when I eat eel.

I dropped by for the first time in about 10 years. The food was good, but I feel like it was even better in the past. Also, the eel portion seemed a bit pricey for what you get. I guess it's due to the location and rising prices nowadays. Still, it's delicious.

Near Shinjuku Alta, there is a long-established eel restaurant. This area doesn't have many eel restaurants, so I was always curious about this place whenever I passed by. The sign is quite recognizable, isn't it? Today, I had a chance to have lunch in Shinjuku after a long time, so I decided to come here without hesitation. The restaurant has a traditional feel and is very conveniently located. I arrived around 11:10 am on a weekday, and it seemed like I was the first customer. The first floor is a bit small, and there is also a second floor. I chose to sit at the counter where you can see the eel being grilled. Surprisingly, all the staff were elderly women. There were three of them, and I imagined the daughter was in charge of grilling, the mother as the proprietress, and the other staff as part-time. This is just my guess, so I don't know the actual situation. The daughter was in charge of grilling the eel. They all had a certain dignity due to their age. The staff in the dining area was very humble and polite. This time, I chose the eel bowl for lunch. It seemed like a better deal compared to the eel set since the only difference was the quantity. When I placed my order, they already had the steamed eel ready and carefully brushed it with sauce. Today's eel was from Aichi prefecture. They grilled it using gas. ▶︎Ordered Items: Eel Bowl 2300 yen Pickles, soup After about 5 minutes of brushing the sauce, it was ready. The eel had a nice glaze, but it didn't have a strong aroma. There were about 5 pieces of eel. When I tried it, well, it was a decently delicious eel. It had the taste of a specialty store, but there was nothing surprising about it. It seemed like they grilled it thoroughly, mainly focusing on the surface. The eel was not plump but rather moist and tender. It seemed like the type of gas grill they used had weak far-infrared rays, so it lacked a crispy texture. The surface was slightly hard, and the texture and mouthfeel of the inside were mediocre. This type of eel lacks a harmonious texture. However, the fat melted well, and the skin was tender. The fat had a sweet taste and a moderate aroma. Although the steaming was slightly strong, I could feel the care put into it. The eel itself was not bad. However, if it's not grilled well, eels from regular cultivation lack richness, so it felt somewhat unsatisfactory. Therefore, even though I could taste the fat, the umami flavor was quite weak. In that aspect, I felt a bit unsatisfied. The sauce was quite mild, not too strong in soy sauce flavor, with a hint of sweetness, making it easy to eat. The grilled flavor was also good. The amount of sauce on the eel was moderate, highlighting the natural taste of the ingredients. The rice was well-cooked and slightly soft. The sauce was just right. The pickles were salty. The soup had a strong dashi flavor, and the refreshing aroma of Mitsuba was good. Also, the sansho pepper here is quite delicious. Well, it's the eel I expected, haha. It's not cheap or expensive, just right for a casual meal. I'm glad I finally got to try it since I've always wanted to. Thank you for the meal~!

When moving from Tokyo to Kanagawa, I found a quaint, old-fashioned restaurant near Shinjuku station. The sign outside advertised an eel bowl for 2,200 yen, so I had to go in! I was surprised to find that all the staff were women in traditional Japanese attire. Their polite service was very pleasant. The eel in the bowl had been steamed before being grilled, which unfortunately resulted in a lack of flavor and some uneven cooking. However, considering the price, it was acceptable. The rice was a bit too moist for my liking, as I prefer firmer rice with a stronger sauce. The clear soup, on the other hand, was excellent with a sharp soy sauce flavor and perfect seasoning.

At noon on the 13th, I thought of treating myself to a lavish meal today. I decided to go to an eel restaurant. I wondered if it's okay to drink alcohol during lunchtime. Since it's an eel restaurant, they probably have a variety of options besides the traditional eel dish, like grilled eel and white eel. I ordered hot sake and a lunch eel bowl. Although ordering individual dishes seemed like a good idea for drinking, the lunch set was more affordable. The appetizer was a luxurious dish of blowfish skin with ponzu sauce, which was a nice touch related to eel. The eel bowl came with soup and pickles. The soup had fish cake instead of eel liver, but it still had a hint of eel flavor. The eel in the bowl wasn't overly large, more like having a backyard in terms of size. Overall, the price was reasonable for what was offered.

A certain variety show has ended and the name is no longer heard. Today, we had a year-end party at an old restaurant behind Shinjuku Alta. We had sukiyaki... Kanto-style sukiyaki is cooked in a broth, while Kansai-style sukiyaki is grilled before seasoning, more like a "grilling" style. This place is Kanto-style... We avoided lunchtime and met up at 2 pm. The restaurant was quiet. We were seated at a small raised area on the right as soon as we entered. We started with sukiyaki pot and beer, skipping the white rice. The pot contained marbled meat, shungiku, tofu, shirataki noodles, enoki mushrooms, and other standard ingredients. We cooked the meat in the pot. My companion took up the chopsticks and took charge of the pot, which was reassuring. "I'll take care of the Kansai-style grilling. Today, leave it to me." We were served a starter of fugu skin in ponzu sauce, which had a nice tang. We chatted about work, drank, and laughed for a while. When it seemed ready, it was plated for us. I was touched by the first-time hospitality... (Even though it was sukiyaki, they didn't use raw egg. I was surprised when they said they didn't like it much...) The broth was on the sweeter side, so the beer went down smoothly. We talked, drank, ate, and laughed... The beer kept flowing endlessly... When the pot was empty, we ordered eel rolls (the broth flavor is great) and a variety of pickles (so many types, it's great). We ended up staying for 2 hours in a private setting. It was quiet, we had plenty of conversations, and our stomachs were full...

Shinjuku in Shinjuku-ku, which originated from Shinjuku Naito Shinjuku in the early Edo period, the sub-residence of the Naito family of the Takato clan in Shinshu, was opened as a new post town on the Koshu Kaido and prospered. After the Great Kanto Earthquake, it developed due to the rapid increase in population in the western suburbs of Tokyo and the post-war commercial revival in the Showa era. Along with Shibuya and Ikebukuro, it is one of the three major sub-centers, and the area around the east exit of Shinjuku Station, which is the world's busiest terminal for JR and private railways, is a bustling commercial and shopping district. Shinjuku 3-chome is home to many long-established restaurants, Japanese and Western confectionery shops, and grocery stores. Founded in 1905, the eel restaurant Kobayashi, which is located about a 2-minute walk from the east exit of Shinjuku Station, has been watching over the development of Shinjuku Station since its founding in Shinjuku in 1905. The current shop was rebuilt after the war and is a historic building that has been standing for over 70 years. [Drinks] ❶ Cola 330 yen (tax included) ■ Chawanmushi x2 1400 yen (tax included) ■ Special 5830 yen (tax included) One eel and 1/4 pickles, soup included

A famous restaurant near Shinjuku with a strong sense of tradition. The first floor has a small raised seating area, a counter, and seats, giving off a Showa-era vibe. The pickles have a good amount of kelp. They provide a teapot for tea. I ordered the special liver dish with four skewers. The eel in sweet soy sauce is tender but not crispy. I enjoyed the delicious meal in the quaint atmosphere of the restaurant. It's not charcoal-grilled, but the roasted flavor is still nice and clean.

Kobayashi is a restaurant that I have always wanted to visit, as it is known to have been frequented by celebrities such as Koji Aoshima and Beat Takeshi. I was particularly interested in trying their lunch eel bowl priced at 2,200 yen, which is only available during the day. The eel bowl turned out to be delicious, with the eel cooked just right and the sauce being on the richer side. Although the portion size was a bit small, the overall taste was satisfying. I also enjoyed a hot sake while waiting for my eel bowl. The restaurant charges for the appetizer, which I found a bit unusual, but it was tasty so I didn't mind. Overall, I was happy with my experience trying the lunch eel bowl at Kobayashi.

I was guided to a small restaurant by an acquaintance for a late weekend lunch as usual. As soon as we entered, the place quickly filled up with customers. We ordered eel over rice, grilled eel liver, and grilled eel intestines, but it seems like the liver dish was leaking. The eel was tender, and the sauce was not too sweet or too strong, making it easy to finish. The pickles were also delicious and complemented the eel well until the end. Eel is definitely a great choice for summer.

I heard that this eel restaurant in Shinjuku has been in business for over 50 years. There were rumors about a prominent politician having a secret meeting in the second-floor tatami room, but I'm not sure if it's true. The reputation of the restaurant is not bad. However, I felt a bit confused when I tried their eel bowl. The eel was only half a portion, and the sauce was overly sweet and thick, making the rice soggy. It seemed like they put too much sauce. Additionally, there was no hint of the aroma of sansho pepper. When something doesn't sit right with me, it tends to affect my overall impression negatively. Although the chef and staff were very friendly, the disappointing eel bowl left me feeling regretful. I will give them a slightly generous rating as they are a longstanding restaurant that is trying their best. Thank you for your service.

I visited this restaurant near Shinjuku Station. I had been curious about it for a while because of its old-fashioned atmosphere and hidden interior. This time, I researched the restaurant beforehand and made a reservation before visiting. When we arrived around 11:30 am on a Sunday, we were the only customers in the restaurant, but by 12 pm, there were about 4 other groups dining. I ordered the "Take" option from the three types of eel rice bowls available. After ordering, a large amount of pickles was served within 3 minutes. However, when I opened the eel rice bowl, I found that there was a lot of rice and a bit less eel. The pickles seemed to be designed to balance out the rice portion. The overall taste was a bit mushy. The eel was quite fatty, but the small portion made it manageable. The rice seemed to have absorbed a lot of moisture, giving it a watered-down texture. Some may like it, but the eel rice bowl leans towards being watery overall.

I visited "Kobayashi" located at the corner just past Alta, from the east exit of Shinjuku Station. The store has a small, two-story house-like feel to it. Although there is a second floor, there were few customers, so I was seated at a table on the first floor. The seating on the first floor includes a counter with 3 seats, two tables for 4 people, and a raised area for 3 people. The staff, including the owner in the kitchen and two elderly women, were all kind and provided attentive service. I ordered dishes like "Unagi Maki," "Grilled Liver," and "Fugu Karaage." While they weren't exceptionally delicious, they were all good. The dishes were not decorated for Instagram or uniquely presented, which suited the nostalgic atmosphere of the restaurant. The "Unaju" for 4300 yen had a light taste, which was good after eating and drinking various items without feeling too heavy. Personally, I would have preferred a slightly stronger soy sauce flavor for the Unaju. Overall, it was a good eel restaurant with attentive service and a calming atmosphere. Thank you for the meal!
