I would like to make a reservation for the second floor in March 2013... Unfortunately, it's fully booked! (How many times has this happened?) (But making a same-day reservation seems a bit too hasty, doesn't it?) Suddenly, I thought, "I want to eat delicious sushi tonight!" so I called just in case, and surprisingly, there was a table available. I quickly emailed my wife and son... Let's go! We gathered at the restaurant and were seated at our table for the evening. Inside the counter, there were two sushi chefs (a veteran and a mid-level chef) who entertained us with their witty banter that surpassed any comedy duo. (Since customers tend to stay longer, the second floor only had one turnover... Are they making a lot of money?) We enjoyed tuna skewers and simmered kinki as appetizers, and switched from beer to sake. They even had Dassai sake, which the main store doesn't have! A couple celebrating their wedding anniversary caught the attention of the mid-level chef, who started making a special "decorative sushi" for them! And what he created was... (I'll attach a photo for the first time based on word of mouth) Later on, Mickey Mouse also came to our table! (He's winking) (They adjust the skin color using sea urchin) This restaurant is definitely worth revisiting!... "Sushizanmai," known for their first auction tuna. With its cost-effectiveness and 24-hour operation, "I want to eat sushi ⇒ Sushizanmai" has become a regular spot for our family. However, during dinner time, the wait is inevitable, and the waiting time is... At a timely moment, we found out that this Honten restaurant was "available for reservations," so I called my family and we headed there immediately! Despite being just one street away from the bustling Tsukiji market, the atmosphere here is completely different. What matters is the inside (the restaurant)! The counter on the first floor was about half full of customers... It felt a bit cramped. So we headed to the second floor. The counter was L-shaped (with about 10-12 seats in total), so the three of us got a corner seat to enjoy our conversation. There were two pairs of customers before us. Unlike the first floor, we didn't have to worry about customers coming and going, and we could quietly enjoy our meal. Depending on the number of people, you can also reserve the entire second floor. First things first, beer!! (Make sure to bring a coupon with you before your visit!) (From where?) (Speaking of coupons...) The appetizer on the second floor was visually appealing. I usually pass on the main store's appetizer (sorry), but this one looked good. Then, with the menu (appetizer section) in hand, we pondered what to order. The orders from my son and wife kept coming in... "Two scallops, two salmons" "I'll have salmon too, and also medium fatty tuna" "Two amberjacks, two sweet shrimps" As we were about to start eating sushi (especially at the counter), my son fought back, saying, "Don't eat little by little! Eat properly!" Indeed, he said that. But let's use it depending on the restaurant and the dish, eat little by little!! This meaning... you'll understand in the future! Next was wine (white) or sake (Dassai)? While the two of them were busy warning me not to drink too much, I secretly ordered a half bottle of wine. But the waitress brought three glasses. There was no way the two of them would miss that, and the glasses were empty in no time. Then, a bottle of Dassai! By the way, my son's appetite showed no signs of diminishing! (That's why it's Sushizanmai!) A decade ago (when my son was in junior high school), he once ate all the salmon at a sushi restaurant. The bill at that time was... Oh no. "Negitoro hand roll" "Two squids and two more salmons each" Wait a minute, how much do you plan to eat? But you can eat as much salmon roe as you want, not ikura. This is Sushizanmai, after all! Without realizing it, my wife moved on to dessert. After that, the two of us went to the bathroom. Another bottle of Dassai, quickly! And finally, I got my nigiri sushi... cucumber rolls!... Tearful rolls ⇒ It's so stimulating that tears come out, but it's addictive... Also, I was thinking about ordering my favorite shellfish (Hokkigai, Akagai), but before I could decide, I got the look of "Are you still going to eat?" from the two of them. Gosh, annoying! Anyway, the bill is on me as always. This is the usual pattern. Thank you for the meal. P.S. I actually had the "first auction" tuna at the main store. My son was working part-time that day, so my wife and I went, and it was one piece per person.
