On November 8, 2021 (Monday), at Akabane, the 502nd restaurant in Tokyo, the 2874th overall, there is a well-known fruit parlor called Senbikiya, known for its high-quality fruits and pastries. Although the prices are high, the establishment is renowned for never compromising on the quality of their ingredients (fruits) and never resorting to discounts. This commitment has earned them a loyal customer base and a thriving business. While traveling back home on the Saikyo Line after finishing errands in Ukima-Funado, I noticed Senbikiya's pastry section at Akabane Station during a transfer to the Takasaki Line. The pastry chefs working in the glass-walled space looked impressive, so I couldn't resist taking a peek inside. There were many products featuring chestnuts, perfect for the season, and even a special parfait exclusive to Akabane. As expected from Senbikiya, the cakes were priced at ¥864, reflecting the top-notch fruit ingredients used. Although the price seemed high, the quality was evident once tasted. The first thing that struck me was the elegant and refined service provided by the female staff. Beyond the quality of the fruits, I believe it is this overall atmosphere, including the commitment to consistently offering high-quality products at a premium, that has endeared Senbikiya to its customers. I purchased the "Chestnut Omelette" for ¥864 and the Akabane-exclusive "Fruit Parfait" for the same price. While I initially hesitated at the slightly high prices, once I returned home and tried the fruit parfait, I found it to be luxurious and worth the cost. The parfait was adorned with strawberries, kiwi, oranges, apples, and topped with high-quality whipped cream, a sponge soaked in a light liqueur, and white wine jelly. At the bottom of the cup, there were sliced strawberries lightly soaked in liqueur. Although the price was a bit steep, the effort put into each component made it a worthwhile indulgence. As for the Chestnut Omelette, my family member who tried it mentioned the generous portion size, and even though I'm not particularly fond of chestnuts, I found it to be delicious. While I may not be able to afford to buy these cakes frequently due to their typical prices in the ¥800 range, I believe they are perfect for an occasional luxury treat. It was delicious!
