Fukusushi is located in Asahi-cho, Furano City, close to Furano Station. It has been about 10 years since my last visit. I have been to the old location as well as the current one. I usually stop by when taking the train and enjoy some snacks and drinks. This time, I visited by car and decided to try their sushi. I ordered the "Jumbo" size set called "Jou Namasu" for 2420 yen. The sushi pieces were quite large, especially the ikura and tobiko. The hamachi was included instead of hotate as they were out of stock. The quality of the fish was good. The place got busy quickly, with a waiting line forming within 30 minutes of opening. It's a popular spot!

The freshly caught Ezo Bafun Uni from Rebun Island was incredibly delicious. However, the Ikura was a bit underwhelming in comparison. The nigiri sushi had large portions of rice and toppings, which may be a selling point, but it was too big. It felt like only a high school student in their prime could eat it. If you order nigiri, I recommend asking for the smallest portion of rice possible.

When I was a child, I went to a sushi restaurant. The sushi here is made in jumbo size. They also make them in regular size. The jumbo ones are recommended because they look cute being so big. However, they were too big and I couldn't eat all of them because I got full.

I sometimes crave the large sushi pieces at Fukuzushi. The last time I went was in 2013, so it's been a while. When I went on a Saturday evening, there were a lot of takeout orders and the place was bustling with customers. I ordered the large nigiri sushi set and one serving of oshinko maki. The nigiri set cost 2000 yen, which is not too expensive. The toppings included tuna, salmon, botan shrimp, scallop, flying fish roe, salmon roe, herring roe, and yellowtail (substitute for surf clam), a total of eight pieces. In general, these toppings would be considered premium, but in Hokkaido, this is considered a standard set, similar to what was common in the Showa era. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the rice portion is equivalent to three pieces of conveyor belt sushi, packed tightly. I feel like the rice has gotten less flavorful over the years, making it easier to eat and more delicious. The toppings are also quite large, especially the salmon roe. The scallop, herring roe, and botan shrimp are delicious. The tuna is also very tasty. The yellowtail is elegant and light, as is the salmon. The maki rolls seem to be equivalent to three regular rolls. It doesn't take too long to finish all this sushi. I devoured the battleship-sized sushi rolls and left feeling full.

I visited a famous sushi restaurant in front of Furano Station called Fukuzushi. I didn't make a reservation and wanted to sit at the counter, but they were not using the counter seats, possibly due to concerns about the coronavirus. So, I was seated at a table and ordered two servings of hot sake. I tried their homemade pickles (600 yen) which were daikon radish pickled in soy sauce, perfect as a side dish for sake. I also had their homemade salty fish roe (around 400 yen) which had a rich flavor of liver mixed in, making it a great accompaniment to sake. For sushi, I ordered a set (1300 yen) with squid, squid, shrimp, octopus, and two rolls - a tuna roll and a cucumber and sake lees roll. I chose the normal size for the rice, but the sushi was huge, about twice the size of regular sushi! I had to cut them in half with scissors, which was a first for me. The rolls were normal size, but the rice was soft and sweet, filling up my stomach quickly. Even though I shared the meal with another person, we couldn't finish it all. We also tried the half-size grilled hokke, which was incredibly delicious with thick meat - a true taste of Hokkaido. It was a fun and interesting experience in Furano. We kept drinking hot sake until the last order.

A restaurant that serves delicious jumbo-sized nigiri sushi. Located about a 5-minute walk from Furano Station. When you order nigiri sushi and ask for it to be jumbo-sized, you will be served with unbelievably large pieces of sushi. Not only is the rice substantial, but the toppings are also thick and generous, making it difficult to gauge the size from photos. To give you an idea, one piece of sushi could fill a teacup. The Jumbo Assorted Sushi Set (2000 yen) includes 8 pieces of tuna, scallop, salmon, cod roe, yellowtail, spot prawn, flying fish roe, and salmon roe, along with a soup. The toppings are all fresh and substantial, but what really stands out is the huge amount of rice. The gunkan sushi in particular had so much rice overflowing under the seaweed that it made me laugh. The Sea Urchin Nigiri (1600 yen for one piece) was also ordered in jumbo size, and it came with a generous amount of bright yellow sea urchin piled high on a big gunkan. The sea urchin was incredibly creamy, sweet, and rich, without any fishy taste, completely changing my perception of sea urchin as someone who doesn't usually enjoy it. The Grilled Yellowtail Collar (1000 yen) was delicious with its fatty goodness. I've heard that sea urchin tastes completely different depending on its freshness, but I was truly amazed by the difference in quality.

In Furano, a town without the sea, I tried sushi at "Fukuzushi" and ordered the premium sushi set. It felt very Hokkaido-like. The price was 1,900 yen plus tax, but it would have been better if tax was included. They asked if I wanted big sushi pieces, but I preferred smaller ones. Even so, the sushi was quite large and a bit difficult to eat in one bite. I'm not a fan of chewing sushi slowly. The restaurant seemed to be popular, with lots of TV coverage and autographs and photos on the walls.

Fukusushi in Furano serves big nigiri sushi that even appeared on a gourmet TV show hosted by Bananaman. The restaurant has a clean and neat atmosphere. I ordered the 8-piece premium nigiri sushi set from the menu. The pieces were so big that the rice was also quite large, about 2-3 times the normal size. I had planned to order more, but after eating, I was unexpectedly full and had to give up on ordering more. Thank you for the delicious meal.

From the lavender fields to Furano Station by taxi. It took about 30 minutes and cost around 3,000 yen. I called for a taxi and the driver provided a guided tour which was nice. He talked about the eruption of Mount Daisetsuzan, the Furano Ski Resort, and how the rice in Hokkaido is shorter than the rice in Honshu. It was informative (although I'll probably forget it soon...). Before arriving at the station, the driver asked if I had lunch plans. I mentioned a curry restaurant, to which he replied, "Oh, I would have recommended Jumbo Sushi!" I thanked him, got off at the station, and decided to go to the recommended Fukuzushi. Honestly, this Sapporo tour has been seafood bowls for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday, a sushi lunch on Sunday, and even a crab bento for breakfast. I feel like I'll grow gills soon. I sat at a table, looked at the menu, and ordered a bottle of Sapporo Black Label beer (770 yen), medium-sized sushi (1,760 yen), and a medium-sized chirashi bowl (1,870 yen). When you order alcohol, you always get an appetizer (330 yen). When I placed my order, the staff asked, "You want the Jumbo, right?" Without understanding, I cheerfully replied, "Yes!" The appetizer was a combination of shellfish and flying fish roe. As I nibbled on it and sipped my beer, the tension in my central nervous system eased. The combination of sweat and beer after a meal is the best! And then came the Jumbo. As the driver said, "The fish is big, but the rice is even bigger." It's probably about four times the size of a regular sushi rice portion. I took on the challenge of eight mini rice balls. Despite the size, the taste was good. The vinegar in the rice was just right, making it easy to eat. The volume of the fish matched the rice and was delicious. The chirashi was like a seafood bowl. In Kansai, chirashi sushi and seafood bowls are completely different dishes, but in the Kanto region and beyond, chirashi uses vinegared rice while seafood bowls use plain rice. Chirashi has additional ingredients like lotus root and shredded omelette, giving it a different feel. By this standard, this dish was definitely a seafood bowl. It was delicious, as I had mentioned earlier. I added another beer and managed to finish everything. I was extremely full. I made it back in time for the train. Thank you for the meal.

On the 3rd day of revisiting my hometown, we went to Furano with my wife and our little one to pay respects at the family grave. Our second son couldn't join us as he had a training session. After visiting the grave, we had lunch at Fukuzushi. Originally, I had requested my grandma to take us to Yui Godokon for their curry. However, my grandma told us, "Jiji (grandpa) wants to take you to Fukuzushi because he wants your wife to try their seafood." She added, "Let's prioritize the place the person near the afterlife wants to go to (laughs)." My wife burst out laughing in the car, and I was scolded for it. It was another sunny day. We were guided to the second-floor tatami room, and it felt like a private dining experience. Jiji ordered 2 pieces each of Otoro and Uni, which turned out to be quite expensive... His order alone exceeded 5,000 yen. Just two days ago, we had eaten plenty of delicious Uni in Iwanai, so I thought the Uni at Fukuzushi might be too much... But we ended up ordering Nama-sushi and Jyo-sushi each. Baba had Ebi Tendon, while our little one had... Unagi-don? Are you having Unagi again? What a luxurious elementary schooler. But it looks so thick and delicious. It's probably from China, but at 2,200 yen, it's a great deal. Jiji enjoyed his beer in a mug, quenching his thirst and savoring the Uni and Otoro. Everyone ate what they liked freely. We are truly grateful that both of my parents are healthy and well. Jiji, keep enjoying your favorite foods for a long time. Thank you for the meal!

Banana Man's "Sekkaku Gourmet" large portion special feature was being re-aired. They serve jumbo-sized sushi with fresh ingredients sourced from Asahikawa Market. The sushi is 2.5 times larger than usual, which is astonishing! During the location shoot, Nippon was eating a piece of salmon for 550 yen, a piece of sea urchin for 1200 yen, a button shrimp for 1000 yen, scallop for 400 yen, and snow crab for 500 yen. I thought I couldn't eat a lot of individual pieces of sushi, so I ordered the "Jou-nama sushi" for 1900 yen. In Hokkaido, sushi is called "nama sushi." They asked if I wanted wasabi, so you can order it according to your preference. The "Jou-nama sushi" was super jumbo-sized with tuna, scallop, salmon, surf clam, herring roe, button shrimp, and salmon roe. Each piece was about 10cm x 4cm, so it was too big to eat in one bite. The fish was coated with vinegar, so you can eat it without soy sauce. The lukewarm sushi rice was slightly sweet and matched well with the fish. There was a lot of rice, so I was satisfied and full after eating. It was a satisfying sushi experience. Thank you for the meal!

In the town of Furano, not a seaside city, there is an old sushi restaurant that has been around for a long time. Their selling point used to be the large size of the sushi, but in the past, the prices were reasonable and the quality of the fish was average. However, when I stopped by after more than ten years, the store had changed completely. I decided to order one portion of nigiri sushi and two pieces of squid with a friend, as I couldn't finish a portion by myself. The total bill came to 2,700 yen. Despite not having high expectations to begin with, the quality of the fish was worse than what you would find at a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. I was shocked by the prices of the rice bowls, even though I didn't order one. I was left wondering how they view the presence of tourists, as it is a nationally famous tourist destination. I probably won't be going back there again.

I'm collecting dam cards, so after visiting Niitani and Kanayama, I stopped by Furano for lunch. Before heading to Taki-sato from here, I decided to grab a bite to eat. When it comes to Furano, it's all about the jumbo-sized sushi at Fukujusushi, right? But, well, it's a holiday afternoon so it's pretty crowded. Even though there were seats available at the counter, they wouldn't let me sit there (laughs). Maybe because I was wearing a rider jacket? Oh well, that's fine. So, I was guided to the second-floor tatami seating. But, man, it's pretty expensive! Should I go for medium-quality sushi or high-quality sushi? Since I wanted to eat a lot, I chose high-quality. I added mackerel because it wasn't included. It cost 350 yen. Expensive!! Now, time to eat. The sushi is just huge. It's not impossible to eat in one bite, but it really fills your mouth. The toppings are pretty standard, I guess? Not particularly fresh, but they match the size of the rice. As for the tuna, is it albacore? I wish they had served real tuna here (laughs). As albacore, it's tasty, but still. Well, it's probably good for tourists or foreigners. The noteworthy thing about this place is the deliciousness of the rice. The rice is just so good. The right amount of firmness and sweetness. Just one bite and you think, "Wow, this is delicious!" kind of level. If I happen to pass by Furano again, I might consider going back here. The bill came out to just under 2400 yen. But, since each piece is almost like two pieces, I'm not sure if it's expensive or worth the price, but it's delicious, so it's fine!

We went on a drive to Furano. We left in the early afternoon and were feeling really hungry. We arrived around 1:30 pm and luckily it wasn't too crowded. We ordered the assorted sushi for 1,242 yen and the premium chirashi sushi for 2,268 yen. When asked about the size of the sushi, we chose the normal size. However, when the sushi arrived, it was huge! It was even bigger than a rice ball that a 3-year-old child could hold. We couldn't even pick it up with chopsticks, so we had to eat it with our hands. Despite the size, the sushi tasted delicious with perfectly seasoned rice. The asparagus roll was a pleasant surprise and very tasty. The premium chirashi sushi had large pieces of fish including salmon roe, sea urchin, and salmon roe, making it a great value for the price. The jumbo nigiri from Fuku Sushi was definitely jumbo-sized!

I visited the lavender fields in Furano and heard about a giant sushi in Furano, so I decided to try it. The size was even bigger than I expected, almost two bites worth. I love sea urchin, so I was very satisfied. I initially thought of the sushi as more of an attraction, but it turned out to be really delicious.

Fukuzushi in Furano is famous for its big sushi! The prices are a bit high, but not too expensive compared to other sushi places. I went there tonight and it was quite lively with a lot of people. We sat at a table and ordered. I got the Battera, which is a favorite of mine. My wife ordered the Nigiri. The portions were quite large, which was nice. The Battera was delicious, with a perfect balance of acidity and sweetness. It's not a common choice, but I highly recommend it. The Zangi, a fried chicken dish, was also very good. It's a favorite of a famous sumo wrestler. Each piece was big and juicy. The Nigiri was not pictured, but it was also delicious with large pieces of fish. Fukuzushi also changes their tea cups every year, and this time it was a cute and healthy-themed design. Overall, it was a bit pricey but definitely worth it for the quality and experience at Fukuzushi.

I ordered the Chusho Sushi. It comes with simmered soy sauce spread on top of the sushi. This place is known for its jumbo-sized sushi, and they even used to have TV commercials in the 1970s. Although it's not written on the menu, the sushi here is smaller than the typical sushi you'd find at other restaurants, but you can choose between jumbo or small sizes. While I would like to try the Chirashi, Inari Sushi, and Norimaki in jumbo size, the jumbo option is only available for nigiri sushi. I've heard that the sushi used to be the size of onigiri, but I think that would be too unbalanced in terms of the ratio between the topping and the rice. They also serve rice bowl dishes like Ebi Tendon and Katsudon, but I'm curious about the Jagadon. I'll have to save that for next time. I really want this teacup.
