★8 kinds of vegetables simmered beef Kashmir (small) / 850 yen
★Hamburger / 380 yen
★Spinach / 100 yen
Spiciness can be adjusted in 4 levels. Even if it's extra spicy, it's still relatively mild, around level 3 on the CoCo Ichibanya scale.
★Crunchy potato salad / 130 yen
Satisfying portion size.

In mid-June, around 6 pm on a weekday. I was busy today and missed lunch, so I decided to go out for a meal at this time. I wanted something I could eat without waiting too long, so I was debating between gyudon or curry. I ended up choosing curry and headed to My Curry Restaurant. This place is a curry specialty shop affiliated with the gyudon chain Matsuya. The curry here is quite delicious and they have a wide variety of options, so it's a convenient choice when I feel like having curry. I ordered the Onion Gratin Curry (680 yen) after seeing a new item on the menu. The curry arrived with cheese sprinkled on top, giving it a gratin-like appearance. It looked a bit plain though, and I wondered if it needed some additional toppings. The curry was on the watery side, so the cheese sank when I stirred it. The cheese had a strong flavor, creating a creamy cheese curry. I thought it might have been better if they served it as a curry doria with rice underneath. Overall, the pork cutlet curry (650 yen) at My Curry Restaurant is still the best value for money. Thank you for the meal.

I went to "Maikari Dining" (Ueno branch) for lunch yesterday. It's a familiar place for me. I had a double beef curry with 7 kinds of vegetable toppings, along with a lassi and salad set. I used a PayPay coupon (20% points back) to save some money. The total came to ¥1,660. The food was delicious, with a good amount of meat in the curry, a sweet lassi, and a salad with potato chips. It was a satisfying lunch experience.

Ueno was crowded with cherry blossom viewers and foreign tourists. Originally planning to go to Rokusha, but there was a long line, so I gave up. I was hungry! As I walked, feeling a bit dazed, I suddenly remembered the restaurant I wanted to try this time - My Curry Shokudo Ueno branch. It had been 8 months since my last visit, and this was my third time. When I entered, I noticed that there were more customers than last time, including some white tourists. It felt like things were returning to normal before the pandemic.
I ordered the 7 Vegetable Pork Cutlet Curry, level 2 spiciness, for 770 yen. I placed my order on the tablet screen above the counter, and in about 10 minutes, my order was ready for pick up. The presentation was different this time, with the curry served in a soup curry style container. The well-cooked pork cutlet dipped in the spicy curry was delicious. The curry itself had 7 vegetables, and this time they added one more - snap peas. Each vegetable was tasty, but the tangy cherry tomato and crunchy snap peas stood out. The curry was generous and satisfying, and the addition of the pickles was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the onion pickles I enjoyed last time were not available this time.
I quickly finished my meal and paid using the convenient PayPay system. The quality and quantity of food for the price was reasonable. It was a delicious meal. Thank you for the treat!

I usually go to Matsuno-ya about three times a week, but I found Maikari Dining in Kita-Senju while shopping, so I tried it for the first time. I had the colorful vegetable curry for 650 yen with a 50 yen coupon discount, and it was delicious! It's better than some restaurants, isn't it? The curry had cherry tomatoes, pumpkin, potatoes, spinach, onions, and carrots, and the vegetables were big. I want to go there again, even though there aren't many stores around.

I visited the restaurant in the morning because I was craving for pork cutlet curry. I was happy to find out that they open at 9:00. I stood in front of the restaurant looking at the menu, trying to decide between the original curry and the beef curry. Since it was my first time, I decided to go with the original curry. When I entered the restaurant, there was a notice saying that orders are placed through a touch panel and payment is made after eating. There were no waiters around, so it was mostly self-service. I chose my seat and placed my order through the touch panel, adding spinach to my pork cutlet curry. I also had the option to choose the level of spiciness, ranging from 0 (mild) to 5 (very spicy). I went with level 2 for a bit of a kick. I helped myself to some Fukujinzuke (pickles) and then went to the counter to pick up my curry when the order was ready. The curry had a rich flavor and was spicier than I expected, but not too overwhelming. The pork cutlet was sliced to a perfect thickness of about 1cm, making it easy to cut with the provided spoon. It was a satisfying meal. Next time, I'll try the beef curry.

I don't list basic chain stores, but since it's my first visit, I'm including it as a memo. Located near Ueno Station Panda Exit, along the Metropolitan Expressway, it's a somewhat quiet location. It's a curry specialty shop affiliated with Matsuya, and it's completely self-service. The most important thing is the taste of the curry, which I really liked. It's not trying to be fancy, just a classic taste, but it's really good. At a reasonable price, I am very satisfied with this taste. It's much better than the largest curry chain. The vegetables are also quite large and satisfying. The only disappointing thing is that I couldn't figure out when to use the coupon on the app.

I have a weakness for soup curry, so I visited My Curry Shokudo as they released a limited-time soup curry. It had been about 4 months since my last visit. The major change was the addition of touch panel devices at each table. You can order your food from the screen and then pay at the end. I tried to order the soup curry, but it said it was not available on the screen. I asked the staff and they confirmed they had it, so I paid at the register and waited at my table. The visual presentation of the soup curry was different from the menu photo, as usual. The soup was spicy but delicious. The unique spoon provided made it easier to eat. The ingredients included carrots, cabbage, potatoes, snow peas, sausage, and boiled egg. The standout was the sausage, with a crispy skin and juicy filling. The boiled egg was also very tasty. The onion pickles on the table were a nice touch. Overall, My Curry Shokudo offers delicious curry at a reasonable price. It was a satisfying meal.

It seems to be a curry specialty store from the Gyudon Matsuya series. It gets quite crowded during lunchtime. It's a self-service curry place, so I was curious and decided to try it out. You choose your own seat and order using a touch panel, similar to the Gyudon restaurant. However, the screen initially shows the Matsuya app download screen instead of the ordering screen, which is not very user-friendly. You have to press the screen once to get to the ordering screen. It takes some getting used to. The process is: 1. Order on the panel 2. Wait for your order number to be called out 3. Pick up your order at the counter 4. Eat 5. Pay at the counter afterwards. It feels like they are cutting costs, including explanations. Water is self-service in the middle. I ordered the Rosukatsu Curry (small) for 600 yen. You can choose the spiciness level for free, unlike at Coco Ichibanya. I chose level 2 spiciness, which made it more flavorful. The Crown Ace curry sauce has a strong retort pouch taste, but the impression here is decent. The Rosukatsu is small, but bigger than the one at the nearby Crown Ace. The Fukujinzuke served with the curry is placed in a corner of the store and is authentic. Each table only has sauce and sliced onion pickles in honey. These also go well with the curry. But the Fukujinzuke is the best. Maybe they don't place it on each table to save costs. At Katsuya, a Katsucurry costs around 700 yen. At Coco Ichibanya, it's close to 1000 yen. Coco Ichibanya has astronomical combinations, making it generally expensive. In that sense, My Curry allows for a more customized experience at a reasonable price. Personally, I think it's better than Crown Ace.

I was drawn to visit a restaurant called "My Curry Dining" because of its appetizing name. Inside, there was a food ticket machine and a counter that seemed somewhat familiar. You receive your order at the counter when your ticket number is called. The taste was quite delicious, but it was a flavor that would appeal to everyone without any particularly unique qualities. Thank you for the meal.

A while ago, I had a disappointing pork cutlet curry at a certain restaurant, so I went out in the rain in a revengeful mood. This time, I visited My Curry Restaurant in Ueno. It had been a long time since I last visited, probably since the Mitaka branch. I purchased a ticket from the machine and sat at the counter. It was a bit crowded, but everyone was thinking the same thing. You pick up your food and drinks yourself, so I chose a seat close to the serving area. When your number is called, you go pick up your order.
I ordered the spinach pork cutlet curry for 630 yen, opting for the spicy version. The dish was divided into half curry with spinach and half rice with pork cutlet. The curry had spinach mixed in, which is a common ingredient in Indian curry and is nutritious. The spicy flavor was great, giving a nice kick. The rice was cooked well and tasted good. The pork cutlet was the usual quality you'd expect. The combination of curry and pork cutlet was delicious. The water dispenser was convenient as it also had ice, making it easy to stay hydrated.
For 630 yen, getting a meal like this is truly a great deal. I finished my meal by adding some pickles and thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely be coming back.

It was a restaurant chain called Matsuya Foods. It is located near Ueno's Iriyaguchi and the interior of the store is also clean. The [Western-style] colorful vegetable & chunky chicken curry costs only 680 yen, and they also have bottled cola, so I couldn't resist ordering it.

For lunch, I visited Maikari Curry Shokudo Ueno branch. Even though there are more of them in the area now, I first used Maikari Curry Shokudo on New Year's Day this year. Last night, I had sushi at Takumi Shingo's for my last meal and last drink. So I wanted to eat curry, but I didn't think there would be any curry shops open on New Year's Day, so I came here. Luckily, it was open and not crowded. I ordered the colorful vegetable curry rice with a normal level of spiciness, and I chose the second level of spiciness, which is medium spicy. It cost 650 yen. They call out your order number when it's ready, so I waited at the counter. After about 4 minutes, my number was displayed, so I picked up my tray and also got some water from the self-service station before heading back to my seat. The curry was a bit spicy at the medium level. It had large chunks of potatoes, carrots, onions, fried eggplant, spinach, mini tomatoes, and was very flavorful with lots of ingredients. The rice was firm. I finished my meal and felt satisfied. I heard there are some shops open from New Year's Day, so I will check them out tomorrow.

Yesterday's lunch was at "My Curry Shokudo" (Ueno branch). It's one of my favorite curry restaurants. I had received a 50 yen discount coupon last week, so I used it this time. I bought the "Butter Chicken Curry with Colorful Vegetables (¥690)" at the ticket machine, and used the coupon to pay with PayPay for ¥640. After sitting down, I was called to pick up my order in about 3-4 minutes (it's all automated from the ticket machine, so it's quite convenient). The curry was mild and had chunks of chicken and potatoes in it (see photo). It had plenty of vegetables and felt healthy. I went there after 2 pm and there were only two other customers besides me. Even though it was a Sunday, it was not crowded. Despite being just a few minutes walk from Ueno Station, the restaurant is a bit hard to find, so it seems like a hidden gem. It's part of the Matsuya group and has few branches, but the taste is reliable. It's definitely one of my recommended curry restaurants.

Tonight's dinner was at "My Curry Restaurant Ueno Branch" located a short walk from Ueno Station, towards the Iriya entrance along Showa Street. It was around 7:00 PM on a weekday and there were three customers ahead of me. The restaurant had a bright and clean exterior. Upon entering, I sanitized my hands using the disinfectant provided at the entrance, then purchased a meal ticket from the ticket machine. However, I planned to order using the Matsuya app's mobile order feature, so I went straight to my seat and placed my order through the app. The seating consisted of counter-style seats with transparent dividers between them for splash protection. The entire process was self-service, and I felt a sense of reassurance as spoons and other utensils were provided on the tray when picking up my order. The rice was elegantly arranged, and the curry had a soup-like consistency with bamboo shoots, eggplant, and chicken, with only one bamboo shoot included. The creamy texture with a hint of coconut milk and a spicy kick was quite enjoyable. The chicken was tender and generously sized. It was convenient and quick to enjoy a curry dish like this. Thank you for the meal.

When browsing the internet, I found information about the new menu at Maikari Curry restaurant. Maikari Curry restaurants have been increasing in conjunction with Matsuya recently. This new menu is only available at 8 stores, so I decided to check out a nearby location in Ueno, specifically the "Maikari Curry Ueno" store. This store is a standalone Maikari Curry restaurant, not a Matsuya joint store. I haven't visited these restaurants much since they started opening more locations. I remember going to the Susukino store back when there were only stores in Mitaka and Susukino. I wonder if dishes like Kashmiri curry are still on the menu... However, the main purpose this time was the Keema Curry with cheese sauce on top! The visual presentation seems to be aiming for something like "MOKUBAZA" or "Minoringo." I entered the restaurant and purchased a meal ticket from the vending machine. It's self-service, so when my ticket number was called, I went to pick up my order and took it to my seat. The "Cream Sauce Cheese Keema Curry" for 730 yen... looks a bit different from the poster photo (laughs). The rice is spread out flat with Keema and cream cheese sauce on top, which feels a bit wasteful. Maybe the operation wasn't fully in place because it was the first day of service? On top of the cheese sauce, there were pink peppercorns that added a refreshing aroma when bitten into. The Keema I ordered was a bit lacking in meaty texture. Maybe it's because the rice was spread out flat, so the Keema is also spread out, making the meat thickness less noticeable. But what I personally liked was the plenty of edamame added as an accent with its texture and umami. I also received a complimentary cup of coffee as a happy hour service. As the number of stores increases, it may be challenging, but since it's a curry specialty store under the Matsuya group, I hope to try a more adventurous curry next time. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this restaurant for a late lunch. It is a curry restaurant affiliated with the famous gyudon chain Matsuya. Upon entering the restaurant, you purchase a meal ticket from the ticket machine on the right. The plain curry starts at 390 yen, while the pork cutlet curry is 550 yen. I purchased a meal ticket for the limited-time Pupappon curry (780 yen). You can choose the level of spiciness, and I chose medium. There is no need to hand the meal ticket to the staff, as you can check the cooking progress on the display inside the restaurant. After about 5 minutes, my number was called, and I picked up my order at the counter. They offer free coffee, so I asked for an iced coffee. The curry, despite being medium-spicy, had a strong kick to it. It had a crab aroma and a creamy coconut milk richness, making it delicious. The ingredients included onions, scrambled eggs, and crab legs. The crab legs were just for decoration, as they were not edible. I thought the balance between the rice and curry was good.

I visited for lunch on Saturday. When I entered, I saw a vending machine on the side, which I'm not good at dealing with (((^^;). Since there was no line, I decided to buy from it this time (((^^;). I selected the size and spiciness of the curry, as well as the toppings, and bought a ticket. Then I found a seat I liked and waited for my number to be called. The place isn't very big, so I wondered if the panel was really necessary. And the panel displaying the numbers reminded me of waiting for medicine at a pharmacy. But then, "Thank you for waiting. Number 134, please come forward." Wait, the panel actually makes a sound and the staff calls out the number at the same time? I was a bit surprised. I ordered the European-style curry, medium spiciness, for 390 yen, with spinach topping for 100 yen. The curry was slightly rich with a hint of sourness, but not very spicy. The spinach topping was surprisingly generous and I was happy about that. They had unlimited servings of fukujinzuke (pickles). The seating was all counter seats with transparent acrylic dividers, making the place bright. Jazz music was playing in the background. At the time I visited, they were offering a free cup of coffee, which made me feel like I got a good deal. I enjoyed my coffee after the meal. Thank you for the meal.

On the day after Sunday and a holiday, knowing that I only have to work for one day before another day off tomorrow makes me feel lighter. Today, I am planning to visit a client in Ueno in the early afternoon, but before that, I decided to have lunch at a restaurant called "My Curry Shokudo" along Showa Street. I recently found out through Rocket News that they started serving my favorite dish, "Poo Phong Curry," so I remembered that there was a branch in Ueno and decided to stop by. By the way, last Friday, which was "Curry Day," was postponed due to various reasons, so today is a good opportunity to make up for that.
I heard that "My Curry Shokudo" is actually affiliated with the gyudon chain "Matsuya," so the restaurant operates on a self-service system, which may feel a bit impersonal, but I first purchased a ticket for the "Poo Phong Curry (780 yen)" that I came for. Additionally, since I thought that having fresh vegetables is a must when it comes to "Matsuya," I also ordered the "Egg Potato Salad (180 yen)." With my food ticket in hand, I took a seat at an available table and waited for my order to be called out on the display screen above.
After a short wait, I received my "Poo Phong Curry" and "Egg Potato Salad." While the original "Poo Phong Curry" is supposed to be a stir-fried dish with crab and eggs, this version is more like a curry rice style adaptation. Trying it out, I found that although it is different from authentic Thai cuisine, it still has a nice flavor and is quite tasty. I chose the medium spiciness level, but it was still quite spicy. Overall, this dish is like a more affordable generic version of the original "Poo Phong Curry" from Thai cuisine (6 out of 10 points).

Morning curry (Western-style curry) with less rice for 380 yen. I visited for lunch when the restaurant had just opened. I'm not sure if they have been open from early morning since then, but I noticed it last week when I was walking around this area, so I decided to go today. I entered at 7:22 am, and there were no other customers, so it was like having the place to myself. I chose the Western-style curry with medium spiciness out of the options of making it "my curry," Western-style curry, or tomato cream curry. I also asked for less rice for a 20 yen discount. The curry was served in about 3 minutes, and it came with a salad, which was a nice addition at this price. The curry had a really authentic flavor and aroma, but it was quite spicy even at the medium level of spiciness. I have a small appetite, so choosing less rice was the right decision. I enjoyed it very much. Used for breakfast on December 3, 2020. Rating: 3.35
