もう中高年デラックス
I visited this Japanese restaurant in Akebonobashi by chance on April 12, 2023. It's a hidden gem that is not even registered on Tabelog, so I decided to register it myself. To find the restaurant, you need to walk from the Akebonobashi Station A2 exit, towards the Ichigo Daifuku origin shop called Daikakutamaya, and then turn right towards Nembutsu-zaka. It's located on the right side next to a beauty salon. The restaurant used to be an Italian place, but it opened as a Japanese restaurant on March 2. It has a cozy atmosphere that feels more like a Western-style izakaya than a traditional Japanese restaurant.
I arrived around 11:30 am and was relieved to see that they had a lunch menu available. The lunch options included Grace Chicken for 1,100 yen, Oyakodon for 1,100 yen, Anago Tamagotoji Don for 1,100 yen, Anago Meshi (small) for 1,650 yen, Nidanjubako Chirashi for 2,200 yen, and Anago Bara Chirashi for 1,480 yen. The Grace Chicken, named after the restaurant, was recommended, but I was intrigued by the variety of Anago (conger eel) dishes. I decided to order the Anago Tamagotoji Don for 1,100 yen.
When I saw the menu, it reminded me of the Anago Tempura Don I had at a restaurant called "Hamaishi" in Ginza 8-chome. The dish came with a salad, small side dish, and dessert for a reasonable price, especially considering the current high price of eggs. The salad was beautifully arranged, with finely sliced daikon that brought back memories of my days at cooking school.
The dish was served in about 10 minutes, and even though I ordered the regular size, the bowl was quite large and filling. The sweetness of the onions combined with the eggs created a light and gentle flavor in the Anago Don. It had a refined taste that contrasted with the traditional soy sauce-based flavor of downtown Tokyo. The delicate balance of flavors was impressive. The dessert sorbet was also delicious.
For dinner, they offer two options priced at 5,000 yen and 8,000 yen, with reservations required. I hope others can find their way to this hidden gem without getting lost on the way from the station.
