I encountered Kotooshu Seki (Naruto oyakata) in front of Asakusa Matsuya! He's a very tall foreigner, quite handsome... and then I realized it was Kotooshu! There's a sumo stable, Naruto Beya, located next to Honjo Azumabashi Station, so it's not surprising to see a sumo wrestler in Asakusa, but surprisingly, you don't see many sumo wrestlers in Asakusa. Honjo Azumabashi is known for having many sumo stables, so you have a high chance of encountering sumo wrestlers there. Especially, Takamisakari-oyakata (Furiwake oyakata) rides his bicycle stylishly around (laughs). You often see lower-ranked sumo wrestlers doing their laundry at night at the coin laundry. You can also encounter them frequently at Asakusabashi Station on the Sobu Line. You can easily tell because of the smell of hair oil. Sorry for the long unrelated story... Ueno Seiyoken Asakusa branch is located inside the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Taito Building (Taito Ward Civic Hall). Tourists don't usually go to the Civic Hall, and residents don't visit it often either. So, it's a hidden gem! Moreover, it's a large cafeteria-style establishment, so it never gets crowded, and you can always find a seat. The lunch drinks are self-service with unlimited refills, and they also serve beer, wine, and sake, so day drinking is okay! They also have cake sets, and when you're tired of looking for a crowded cafe and feel like you've lost the energy to search for a place, remember this place. It may not have the Asakusa vibe, but it's recommended. Around 2 pm on weekdays, there are no other customers. I had the whole spacious floor to myself. The male staff is dressed in a classic waiter style with a white shirt, black vest, tie, and black slacks. Wow! That's Seiyoken for you. I ordered the Pork Cutlet with Tomato Sauce (1,000 yen tax included). It was brought to me on a wagon with great care. Did I really order such a fancy dish...? (laughs) As a long-established Western-style restaurant, the taste is guaranteed. But, the knife was incredibly dull! I was worried that I was putting too much force into it and the meat would fly off while cutting... Staff, please occasionally check the silverware. (There were disaster prevention seminars and free tax accountant consultations held on the same floor, so) After 2 pm, a few customers started to trickle in. But still, it was empty. Located along Bado Street. 5 minutes walk from Asakusa Station (Ginza Line/Asakusa Line/Tobu Line), 9 minutes walk from Tsukuba EXP Asakusa Station, and within a 6-minute walk from Kaminarimon Gate.
