Why did I buy takosen in Tsukiji...?? It's a bit strange, right? (laughs) I guess it was a combination of the time of day and my hunger...? On November 17th (Sunday) in the morning, the day before my birthday... I had to renew my driver's license as proof of identity at the testing center... I was running late because I was taking my time, and then I found out that my eyesight had gotten worse than I thought (-_-;) I failed the first aptitude test because my vision was only 0.4... I couldn't believe it! This year has been full of bad luck for me, with serious illness, surgery, intense medication, treatment, battling side effects and health issues... After finally starting to get back into society, I didn't have much money to spare, so I didn't want to waste it on the renewal fee (T_T) So, I waited a bit and then nervously took the test again, barely passing with a vision of 0.7 (^^;) I already had farsightedness, but due to dry eyes and spending a lot of time on my smartphone, I had to wait a long time in line for the aptitude test... about 30 minutes! I passed the time by playing on my phone, and I wasn't the only one, there were others who failed the first test waiting as well. I thought about going to buy eye drops during the wait, but it was a Sunday and there were no pharmacies nearby, so I couldn't make it to a larger store or station in time for the morning hours... It was a close call, but I managed to pass the test the second time (´Д`)=3 After that, I used the one-day pass for 500 yen on the Toei line to take advantage of a discounted lunch coupon... I had lunch at "Kiyomon" in Ueno Okachimachi, which was very crowded, and then I took the Oedo line around the city... It was already past 3:00 PM, so I thought about buying sashimi at "Uoin" in Tsukishima, but I didn't see any places nearby to pass the time... I didn't really know the distance from the station to the market or the surrounding area, but I decided to take a look at Tsukiji... When I got out of the station, I saw the National Cancer Center right there! It's reassuring to have a specialized cancer hospital nearby in this day and age when one in two people gets cancer and one in three dies from it... The large hospital near my place has a bad reputation, and I struggled with whether or not to file a complaint with my doctor... I thought about it many times... While wandering around Tsukiji, I realized that most of the popular places were closed on weekends or had already finished for the day... (^_^;) That's right... That's the kind of timing it was... So, I ended up passing by the famous takosen shop from Enoshima... Even though I didn't have to eat takosen in Tsukiji... I thought since I was already there, why not buy it... The reviews I read on other people's blogs said that the prices had gone up! And of course, most of the people buying were foreigners... I didn't see any Japanese people buying it... But I bought it anyway (laughs) I bought takosen from the vending machine and handed it to the maker, who showed me the octopus before pressing it, adjusted the size of the takosen dough after pressing it... It was quite large, but it's just a cracker... so I gobbled it up (laughs)
