On Wednesday around 2:30 PM, I arrived at "Kaeru Shokudo" after a 4-5 minute walk from Kanamecho Station. The sun was strong on the first summer day of the year, making me a little tired. Inside the restaurant with last orders at 3 PM, there was only one customer sitting at the counter seats in front. The counter seats lined up in a row have 7 seats. There are probably two people working at the restaurant, most likely a husband and wife. There are many frog ornaments inside the restaurant. The exterior and menu of the restaurant are also cute in some way.
- Black Tan-Tan Curry (Extra Spicy) 1,000 yen
- Topping: Pork Belly Meat (approx. 30g) 200 yen
- Beer (Ebisu 350ml) 450 yen
(Total: 1,650 yen)
With this heat, I felt like having a beer, and I chose the Black Tan-Tan Curry with extra spiciness. The spiciness of the curry can be adjusted with the amount of cayenne pepper (free) added, ranging from 0.5g (spicy) to 1g (medium) to 2g (extra spicy) to 4g (extremely spicy). I received the Ebisu canned beer right away. The small and cute glass for the canned beer was also chilled, and I gulped it down.
About 5 minutes after ordering, the Black Tan-Tan Curry with pork belly meat topping arrived. There is a round portion of rice at the edge of the plate, and the curry is spread all over it. There seem to be various vegetables in the curry. The large sesame seeds and small black peppercorns are present throughout. Due to the variety of vegetables and spices, the curry does not feel thick and has a smooth consistency. I start eating. I can taste the flavor of sesame seeds, and the spiciness is just right. It's not just spicy, but you can also feel the richness. The pork belly has some chewy parts like beef tendons and some meaty parts, along with various vegetables such as sliced taro resembling potato fries, green peppers, or lotus root-like pieces, offering different textures. However, the well-balanced spiciness, sesame seed flavor, and various spices and ingredients provide a good combination of spiciness and richness, making me keep eating more.
Next time, I might try the Chicken Curry with 3 wings that can be easily removed from the bone with just a spoon, or the option between Vegetable Mushroom Curry or the Mix Curry with 2 wings and vegetables. Thanks for the meal. It was a perfect curry for the hot day.
