I casually stopped by a pork bowl restaurant at a Michi-no-Eki (roadside station), and I was very satisfied with the delicious meal! It was my first time trying Hokkaido's pork bowl, and the taste was truly remarkable as expected. I bought some pork bowl sauce near the cash register, so I could make it at home. The cashier kindly gave me some tips on how to make it, so I'm looking forward to trying it out soon!

I came to Hokkaido and thought I should try Genghis Khan at least once, so I decided to stop by for a casual drink at a second restaurant. I ordered a bottle of beer and Genghis Khan. The Genghis Khan was 1480 yen, which was reasonably priced. They set up a table-top stove for an authentic experience. It felt like a single serving portion. If you want to eat a lot, you can get a combination of lamb and chicken, and if you still need more, you can order extra lamb or chicken. However, it seems like they don't offer individual additions of meat or vegetables, so it doesn't seem like they are set up for drinking parties with Genghis Khan. It's more of a restaurant for enjoying a meal, but they also have a wide range of alcohol options, making it a good place to enjoy food and drinks. The restaurant is clean and inviting, with plenty of seating. The staff is also polite. In Shari, Shiretoko, there are mostly small individual restaurants, so a place like this is quite valuable. I would like to visit this restaurant again.

I thought about trying the recommended standing pork bowl at the roadside station next to the slanted road, but decided to have ramen instead since I was heading to Obihiro later. I ordered salt ramen and miso ramen. The food arrived quickly and the staff were friendly, but the noodles were a bit too firm for my liking, especially for older people (laughs). The soup lacked richness and depth in both the salt and miso ramen.

If you walk to the right after leaving Shiretoko Shari Station, you will find it on your right. It is located next to a roadside station. The order includes miso ramen with pork bowl. First, the pork bowl. The pork belly from Hokkaido is just the right thickness, with a sweet and savory sauce that has a hint of garlic, perfectly cooked pork with a nice char, and it is juicy and delicious. The rice soaked in the sauce is also quite tasty. It's like the Tokachi pork bowl style! And then the miso ramen, made with Shiretoko chicken and plenty of vegetables in the soup, which has a rich flavor that doesn't seem like just chicken. However, it's a bit disappointing that the soup is a bit lukewarm. The noodles are made from a wheat called "Koharu" from Shiretoko. They have a firm texture, which can be both good and bad. The Shiretoko chicken chashu is flavorful and quite delicious. Overall, it was a satisfying set menu.

I ordered a set of pork bowl and chicken shio ramen. Both were average in taste. The pork bowl was flavorful but not outstanding. The ramen tasted like typical cafeteria ramen. However, the tables were warm because of the heated floors. The manager was friendly.

Today, the weather was amazing, so we headed from Notsuke Peninsula towards Shiretoko. Our group stopped by Shari Michi no Eki to buy good luck manju. We heard they have delicious pork bowl and ramen, so we decided to have lunch there. We asked the staff for recommendations and ended up ordering the pork bowl set and ramen set. The pork bowl was tasty, but the ramen was a bit lukewarm, maybe they prepared it before grilling the pork. Overall, the pork was delicious and the rice was soft, maybe because we are in Shiretoko. It was a nice experience, even though we didn't make it all the way to Shiretoko Cape. Enjoyable during this sunny winter day.

Shiretoko Peninsula, half-day drive trip. I drove around the peninsula and arrived at the Michi-no-Eki in Shari Town. I had never tried pork bowl even in Tokyo, so I wanted to try it in its birthplace, Hokkaido. A friend told me that in the past, beef was expensive and unaffordable in Hokkaido. Eel was also hard to come by. During those tough times, someone came up with the idea of creating something similar to high-end dishes like eel bowl or beef bowl, which led to the invention of pork bowl. Instead of beef, pork was used, and by mixing eel sauce, they created an original product. The restaurant, Kumausi, was stylish inside. The pork bowl was delicious. Even though I had just eaten a black ham bowl in Rausu before 2 o'clock, I managed to finish the pork bowl as well. This pork bowl is so delicious!

I ordered the following items:
- Pork bowl (mix) [1,130 yen]
- Shiretoko chicken thigh meat [770 yen]
The mix bowl includes both pork belly and loin, and it tastes delicious with the sweet sauce. It's even better when eaten with mountain wasabi for an added kick. The Shiretoko chicken thigh meat is simply delicious.

I returned to the station from Shari in the afternoon, but there were no buses or trains until 4:30 pm, leaving me stranded on a remote island of land. In rural cities like Aruaru in Hokkaido, the JR train schedule is limited, with only 2-3 trains in the morning for commuting and 1 train in the afternoon. For business travelers, missing the afternoon train means waiting until the evening. During the tourist season from January to March, there are buses to Abashiri, but in the off-season in November, they are suspended. I had to wait for about 4 hours before departure, so I decided to visit "Shiretoko Kumausi" next to the roadside station for a meal.
I ordered the recommended dish, the "Pork Bowl," and it was served quickly with a miso soup and pickles. The pork slices were tender and flavorful, and the sauce was excellent. I couldn't help but finish the entire bowl, as the rice was also delicious. The miso soup and pickles were simple but tasty. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, and I would love to visit again to try other dishes on the menu.

"Kumaushi" in Shari, I was done with work and it was time for lunch, so I casually searched for "new restaurant information" and to my surprise, I found it. "Kumaushi" is a popular restaurant in Shiretoko, known for its delicious soba and pork bowl. I didn't have high expectations, but it turns out they are opening on August 8th. I've been to this roadside station many times and even bought fish next door, but I never noticed this building. I've had some bad experiences at this dining place before, so I never considered eating here. The menu doesn't have soba or pork bowl, but I decided to try the salt ramen. The interior is spacious, and the staff is friendly. The nightmare of the past seems to haunt me, but it's unrelated to this new place. The salt ramen arrived in 5 minutes and looked delicious. The noodles were normal, the soup had a mild yet flavorful taste, and the toppings were good. The price of 880 yen seemed a bit high, but overall, it was a satisfying meal."

I landed at Memanbetsu Airport with Peach Aviation and rented a car to head straight to Shiretoko Utoro Onsen. After a nearly 100-kilometer drive, I stopped at a roadside station in Shari for a break. It was past 1 pm, and the place was almost empty. I decided to eat at a nearby restaurant, where I ordered a pork bowl and a half-sized miso ramen set. The pork bowl had a good balance of savory pork and sauce, and the miso ramen was a nice complement. I enjoyed the meal and continued my drive to Utoro Onsen.

I had a Genghis Khan set meal. It consisted of plenty of lamb meat stir-fried with vegetables such as bean sprouts and onions. The sweet garlic soy sauce added a delicious flavor to the vegetables. The lamb meat, which is low in fat and has little odor, was satisfying yet refreshing. It was really tasty.
