A small coffee shop with only a counter at the Tsukiji Outer Market. I had always wanted to visit it someday, but it seemed to be closed. However, I saw someone who had visited it recently, so I decided to check it out. "Coffee Amikane" is a cafe located along Harume Street in the Tsukiji Outer Market. The entrance is very narrow, so you might miss it, but there was a lovely sign outside. Inside, there are about 6 counter seats in the small shop. When I asked the owner about the opening hours, I was told that they are open around 8:30 am to 12 pm on Thursdays and Saturdays. The menu consists of coffee for 250 yen and toast for 250 yen. For breakfast, I ordered coffee and toast. The toast came with a choice of jam - blueberry, apricot, or plum. The coffee for 250 yen was acidic and had a rich flavor. It tasted even better when enjoyed at the counter. Many customers were ordering refills of coffee while I was there. I chose the plum jam for my toast, which was a unique option. The plum jam had a tangy sweetness to it and was delicious. The toast was crispy on the outside. The clientele seemed to be mostly regulars who work in the outer market, but the owner was friendly and chatted with me even though I was a first-time visitor. This cafe is perfect for a quick coffee break after dining or shopping in Tsukiji, but make sure to check their opening days and hours beforehand.

On Saturday mornings, my recent weekly routine includes having breakfast at Tsukiji Outer Market. After eating sashimi set meal at Honma-san, as we walked around the outer market, we were surprised to see that Coffee Amikane-san was open, which is usually closed. My wife and I felt incredibly lucky as we shouted, "Wow, they're open!" and entered the shop. When we asked the landlady about the pronunciation of the shop's name and its origin, she said it's pronounced as Coffee Amikane (Amikane). The shop was established in 1955, so it has been in business for 67 years. We ordered a coffee for 250 yen. Actually, there are only two items on the menu: hot coffee for 250 yen and toast for 110 yen. As we sat near the entrance with two other customers, the hot coffee was served promptly. There were two other customers who arrived before us, and we heard that Tsukiji ranked first in the most livable town ranking. When we asked the landlady, she mentioned that due to the current situation after COVID, the shop is only open on Thursday and Saturday mornings from 9 am to 12 pm. Even though we come to Tsukiji every week, we might not have noticed it. The shop has a very high threshold for entry. As for the hot coffee, it had a tangy and flavorful black coffee taste with a fragrant aroma, which helped soothe the tiredness from walking. I would like to try the toast next time. Thank you for the delicious meal. We will definitely come back!

Inside and partly outside Tsukiji market, there is a coffee stand that I discovered while looking for a place to visit. I passed by the road leading to Hanedera Shrine many times, but I never noticed the stand hidden among the trees in an area prone to congestion. Even though I could see light coming from the ventilation fan, the stand didn't seem to be open at 7 am. When I politely opened the door to inquire, a family member greeted me with a "How are you?" (and it seemed like a dog was about to come out ^^;) and informed me that they open at 8 am. Please be aware that their opening hours may vary. Hot coffee is priced at 250 yen and is served in a white enamel pot placed on a hot water bath, with the cup also submerged in hot water. The coffee is poured from the pot into a cup that has a slightly rounded shape compared to the old-fashioned coffee cups found in traditional coffee shops. The coffee is strong, but there is no burnt smell likely due to the hot water bath keeping it warm. I added some milk to half of the cup, and it paired well with the coffee. The taste is slightly different from the typical coffee shop coffee, but it is flavorful. Currently, the stand operates only two days a week for a short period. Although it may have been reduced or omitted over the years, the dedication to continue what they can do is commendable. This coffee stand in Tsukiji embodies the essence of a traditional coffee shop experience.

There is a coffee stand run by a 90-year-old grandma outside Tsukiji Market. It is only open 2 days a week, from 7am to around 10am, so many people may not even know it exists. The name "Ame-ken" and the sign "Please Speak Loudly" reflect the unique charm of Tsukiji. The stand is small with only 6 seats, so it can get crowded, but turnover is quick. The grandma, who is a bit hard of hearing, serves coffee using a large electric mill as a landmark. The coffee (250 yen) is brewed in a cloth filter and served in a warm cup. It has a smooth acidity and a refreshing aftertaste. Enjoying the coffee while watching the bustling market outside gives a sense of relaxation. The best part is the grandma's smile when you say "thank you" after finishing your coffee. Hopefully, this charming stand will continue to thrive even after the market relocation next year.

An elderly lady in her 90s runs a coffee shop alone. The shop has a vintage interior with retro equipment still in use. The small shop only has about 5 counter seats, and the only drink menu available is coffee. The coffee is brewed slowly and tastes delicious, with just the right balance of richness and acidity. The shop can get a bit hot in the summer, despite having the air conditioning on. Foreign businessmen who used to visit the shop in the past come back to see the elderly lady and enjoy chatting with her. Due to her hearing impairment, there is a sign on the wall asking customers to speak loudly. A customer revisited after 22 years and found that the coffee was still delicious. Another customer visited on a hot summer day and enjoyed the coffee in the sweltering heat.

Strolling through the Tsukiji outer market! But I'm starting to feel like sitting down!! That's when Coffee Amimoto-san comes in handy!!! A café where you can sit and enjoy the history of Tsukiji, hosted by a grandmother who has nurtured its history! A few counter seats that spill out onto the street outside!! A nostalgic atmosphere as if time has stopped in Showa era!!! In the fishy streets of the Tsukiji outer market, this atmosphere makes the coffee taste so good!! Now, my spirits are revitalized!! Let's head back to food hunting!!!

This shop is located in an area where shops are clustered after leaving the Uogashi Bridge Gate of Tsukiji Market and heading from Namiyoke-dori to Shin-Ohashi-dori. It was featured in the manga "Tsukiji A Walk" and is only open three days a week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. Sometimes it is open until around noon on Saturdays. The shop has only six counter seats, and an elderly female owner who appears to be over 80 years old manages it alone. The shop has been in business for 53 years in this area, and probably due to her age, the owner operates the shop as a hobby with short opening hours. Inside the shop, there are decorations such as photos of yachts and ornaments made of ropes from yacht sails, given by acquaintances. The menu consists of only hot coffee (250 yen), and I saw a neighboring customer ordering toast, so those seem to be the only two items available. The coffee beans are ground with an old electric mill, and the coffee is dripped into a coffee pot, then kept warm in a pot with hot water on a gas stove. The coffee cups are also warmed up the same way. I was impressed by the nostalgic atmosphere of old-fashioned coffee shops. There is a saying that the best way to extract coffee is from drip to drip, and it seems that this method requires skill. The coffee had a slightly low acidity and a rich flavor, and it tasted delicious as the coffee cups were also warmed up. According to the owner, she had thought about closing the shop at some point, but time passed by and she continued to operate. I wished for her to continue operating a bit longer with good health. If the shop is open, I recommend it for a cheap coffee break during a stroll in Tsukiji. By the way, the phone number is not disclosed. Store registration store, first post store.

Recently, my hearing has been deteriorating, so I have started using a hearing aid for work. There is a classy older lady who serves morning coffee, talking about the blend of beans and how they are ground, but it has nothing to do with the great taste of the coffee. It's a place that truly brings out the "good flavor." With the relocation of Tsukiji (it's still uncertain what will happen), this place might disappear. To experience a part of the Tsukiji atmosphere, be sure to sit at that counter. This is a place that will make you want to visit Tsukiji. I hope this place continues as long as possible while the owner is still healthy.

After having breakfast at "Katou," I stumbled upon this charming little shop. It had a counter that had been there for decades, with tall round chairs for a few customers. The menu only offered coffee. Despite its simplicity, the atmosphere was incredibly pleasant. The entrance was wide, like an adult spreading their arms. There were no doors. I visited in early summer, but I could imagine it getting quite cold by now (late autumn). Inside the counter area, there were cups warmed with hot water, pre-brewed coffee, and an elegant elderly lady. She had a lovely presence, reminiscent of a refined version of a traditional tea master. Even without exchanging words with the regular customers, the shop exuded a delightful ambiance. I hope this dear little shop remains open forever.

The shop is run by a very lovely elderly lady. A cup of coffee costs ¥250. It's small but cozy. I heard she is 90 years old. Her smile is wonderful. I hope she stays healthy and keeps running the shop. Thank you for the meal.
