On holidays, I naturally find myself heading to a soba restaurant these days. I visited this place in Shimokitazawa, which I had been eyeing for a while. It's about a 10-minute walk from Inokashira Line's Ikejiri-Ohashi Station. Although I have driven by before, walking through the quiet upscale residential area was quite overwhelming. The restaurant is located on the opposite side of the temple, with a well-maintained courtyard that made me forget I was in Tokyo. What a wonderful location! Unfortunately, it was fully booked, with a waitlist of 3 groups ahead of me. They even provided insect repellent, which allowed me to relax and enjoy the surroundings. I entered the restaurant after about 15 minutes. The first floor was almost full, so I took off my shoes and went up to the second floor tatami seating area. Other customers seemed to prefer the course or sudachi soba, which is understandable as it's seasonal. I wanted to try some appetizers, so I ordered the following: plum wine, zaru tofu with green chili soy sauce, dashimaki tamago two kinds mori, and cold beverages (I resisted sake this time). The plum wine by Ibooru was delicious, with a balanced sweetness and mild acidity. The zaru tofu, initially seasoned with salt, allowed me to savor the sweetness of the soybeans. Adding the green chili soy sauce provided a spicy kick that complemented the dish well. The dashimaki tamago was a classic style, not too sweet, with just the right balance of grated radish and soy sauce. After savoring these appetizers, I moved on to the Saitama Miyoshi soba, starting with salt seasoning. It had a subtle aroma and sweetness, suitable for everyone. The second serving was Ibaraki Hitachi soba, which was sweeter than the first one. I finished both servings quickly with salt and soba dipping sauce. Although I was tempted by the sudachi soba, I was dining alone this time, so I decided to end my meal there. I'll have to come back during the summer season to try it. I had known about this restaurant for a while but was hesitant to visit due to its location. The second-floor tatami seating area was only half full, and it seemed that the restaurant focused more on providing a relaxed dining experience rather than quick turnover. The staff were polite and attentive, creating a leisurely dining atmosphere. When settling the bill, they apologized for not seating me on the first floor, but I actually preferred the second-floor tatami seating. Although the transportation to the restaurant in Daizawa is not the most convenient, the fantastic location and delicious soba made it all worth it. The relaxed atmosphere felt like a soba restaurant in a summer resort, evoking nostalgic memories of my childhood. The restaurant has been open for 17 years, not exactly a long-established place, but it proves that delicious soba restaurants can be found even if they are not steeped in history. It was a very pleasant walk and a rewarding dining experience before heading to work. I enjoyed it so much that I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
