Ueno has regained its liveliness. At night, all the shops are bustling, and Gokumiya is also very lively. I visited around 6 pm. It's a place where you can easily stop by alone after work. I started with a draft beer and raw liver sashimi. The crunchy raw liver with sesame oil and salt was a moment of bliss. I ordered grilled hormone skewers with crunchy parts, cow's tongue, and raw liver. It's great to have a charcoal grill at the table. The cuts are large and a bit tough, so be careful not to overcook them as they can become even tougher. The hot sake was served piping hot and to my liking. The location of the restaurant is excellent. The vibrant atmosphere and energy in the city gave me a boost of vitality.

The Gopchang was juicy and recommended! The seasoning was perfect, goes well with rice! The Dakgalbi was as expected, no disappointments. The Namul and Kimchi were a bit lacking in flavor, maybe they were freshly made? I wish they had more aged flavor. I ate too much.

I went to a yakiniku restaurant, but since they had outdoor seating available, I decided to sit outside where they don't cook the meat. Outdoor seating is great this time of year. I ordered a healthy assortment of cold tomatoes, namul, and edamame as snacks. The green tea highball was strong and seemed good for the body. After that, I went to another restaurant, but the photos alone were not enough to judge.

We used it for a banquet. We had a leisurely banquet in a private room on the second floor of a hormone shop under the guard from JR Ueno to Ameyoko area. Ueno is quite crowded, so having a relaxed time is valuable. The fact that smoking is allowed was also a deciding factor for our group. Also, I need to study more about the best parts of hormone cooked over charcoal. I'll aim for my favorites next time.

I visited this shop located in Ameyoko, under the railway bridge, after learning that they have counter seats. Upon entering, I ordered a beer and kimchi. The beer was good and the kimchi had a flavor I enjoyed. I ordered the upper tongue and upper harami. The tongue was a bit disappointing for its price of 1600 yen. However, the harami was really delicious. It looked beautiful even before cooking, and the flavor expanded when cooked. It was a blissful experience. I added a little more to my order, had a lemon sour, and the total bill was just over 6000 yen. I may have ordered too much for one person. They have a good variety of hormone dishes, so it's best to order a balanced amount. Thank you for the meal.

Alone at a yakiniku restaurant. ★Wagyu top loin / 1,705 yen ★Top mino / 1,430 yen ★Choregi salad / 605 yen... I picked these along with a few beers and shochu. The Wagyu top loin has a marbling grade of 4 or higher, making it visually appealing and tempting to eat raw. The slices are thin like paper, but I wish they were a bit thicker. The top mino is significantly more expensive compared to other types of offal, but it tastes just average. Even the Choregi salad feels overpriced.

The Ueno yakiniku lunch series continues. The conditions for these reviews are: 1) must be suitable for one person, 2) must be under 1000 yen including tax, and 3) must be available until around 3 pm. On this day, I found a promising restaurant while wandering around like a suspicious person. I asked the lady outside if they were serving lunch and she said it was fine, so I went in. The restaurant for this review is Yakiniku Kiwamiya Ueno branch. I sat at the counter. It seems like this restaurant has two entrances, which is convenient. I managed to resist the urge to have a beer and ordered the following lunch set: - Nakaochi Kalbi set for 850 yen. First, they brought a glass of cold water and a shichirin (small charcoal grill). The shichirin is a common sight in Ueno, but it was a nice touch. The set included the main dish, rice (with free extra serving option), soup, and two side dishes. I started grilling the Nakaochi Kalbi on the charcoal grill and enjoyed it with the dipping sauce. The slightly spicy sauce went well with the meat, and the rice was delicious. The hot soup with plenty of seaweed was the highlight of the meal. The side dishes, moyashi namul and kimchi, were tasty as well. I alternated between the grilled meat and rice, and finished the meal feeling satisfied. The soup played a big part in that satisfaction. Overall, it was a delicious lunch. Thank you for the meal. The yakiniku horumon restaurant where they grill the meat on a shichirin grill has a nostalgic atmosphere. The menu offers a variety of cuts of meat, mostly from the upper part of the animal. As a commoner, I prefer the usual kalbi or gyutan (beef tongue) (laughs). I started with a draft beer, followed by red wine to go with the meat, and of course, some Chamisul soju. I think the more expensive cuts of meat are worth the price as they are delicious. I tried a new type of horumon called "Urute," which had a surprising white and cute appearance. It wasn't tough or chewy, but rather pleasantly crunchy and delicious. In the end, I ended up eating a lot and drinking plenty (laughs). Thank you for the delicious meal.

On this day, I was bar hopping in Ueno. As I visited multiple places, instead of eating a lot at one place, I was trying out different dishes while exploring various restaurants. On this particular day, I stumbled upon a promising hormone (offal) restaurant - "Sumiya Ueno Branch". As the name suggests, it's a hormone (offal) restaurant. I entered the restaurant and was seated on the second floor. While contemplating what to order, something caught my eye - the menu displayed on the wall! The menu had a wide variety of options, all at affordable prices. The down-to-earth vibe was quite pleasing. - Sumiya Lemon Sour (500 yen): I decided to order a drink that bears the restaurant's name. It was a honey lemon + pickled plum flavored sour, which was quite easy to drink and enjoyable. - Sumiya Assortment (1,250 yen): Next, I ordered a menu item that also had the restaurant's name. I forgot to take a picture, but it was a lavish and satisfying dish. With this assortment, I wouldn't have to worry about snacks. I ordered a few more dishes afterward, and all of them were delicious. The quality at this price point was impressive. I didn't order too much, but it was a great restaurant. Whether for a casual drink or a hearty meal, it seems like a good choice. It's conveniently located near Ueno Station and always crowded due to its street-level presence. If I get the chance, I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again.

JR Ueno Station, coming out of the Uguisudani exit, is located a 2-minute walk towards Okachimachi Station along the guard. The interior of the restaurant has both counter seats and tables. The main focus seems to be enjoying alcohol while grilling hormone on a charcoal grill placed on the table. In addition to hormone, there is also a wide variety of other side dishes available, so you can enjoy the restaurant as a regular izakaya as well. - Namul Mori: A mix of bean sprouts, spinach, fiddleheads, daikon, and carrots. The sesame oil flavor and taste are prominent. It's nice that there are different types of vegetables to enjoy. - Spicy Bean Sprout Kimchi: A kimchi namul made with bean sprouts and soybean sprouts. The crunchy texture of the sprouts and beans provides a satisfying bite. It looks spicy, but it's not overwhelmingly hot. - Tofu Salad: A vegetable salad with cucumber, carrots, and two types of lettuce topped with tofu. The dressing is a type with grated onions. The addition of tofu makes it a light yet satisfying salad. - Black Nikka Highball: There is a wide variety of alcohol available. The whiskey highball uses Black Nikka, which has a refreshing and delicious taste. The restaurant is lively with many young people gathering.
