On this day in Ueno. I got off at JR Ueno Station, went out from the central ticket gate, and headed straight to the 2nd floor restaurant area of "Atre Ueno". I found the restaurant I was looking for, called "Maika". They offer a relaxing space for Japanese dining, creative Japanese cuisine, their proud kama-meshi, and carefully selected Japanese sake and shochu. I was seated at the counter and ordered a lemon sour for 550 yen, and the dishes I had that day were: 1) Appetizer of rape blossoms for 330 yen, a vegetable-first dish. 2) Bitterballen for 680 yen, a collaboration menu with the Vermeer and 17th Century Dutch Paintings Exhibition. It was like a cream rice croquette and was quite tasty. 3) Sea bream head and raw seaweed kama-meshi dinner set for 2,200 yen, recommended as their specialty. It was a delicious kama-meshi with fresh sea bream, seaweed flavor, secret miso, and three different tastes. It took about 30 minutes to cook, but it was worth the wait. The meal also included red miso soup, chawanmushi, side dishes, pickles, and additional condiments for flavor variation. Overall, the dinner at Atre Ueno was convenient and enjoyable.

Today, after finishing work, I met up with an acquaintance in Ueno to have a meal. We arrived in Ueno around 7:30 PM and decided to check out the situation at Atre in Ueno Station first. Since most of the restaurants had long lines, we decided to leave the station if we couldn't find a place to eat right away. Luckily, we found a restaurant where we could be seated immediately. We ordered various dishes such as rice bowls, water dumplings, horse sashimi, and deep-fried capelin. The capelin, horse sashimi, and rice ball were served one after another. When we had almost finished them, our individual rice bowls were served. I had sea bream and seaweed, while my acquaintance had salmon and salmon roe rice bowls. Lastly, we were served shrimp water dumplings. The rice bowls were small but equivalent to three bowls, so by the time we finished eating, we were quite full. Each dish was delicious. I ordered the lunch menu option of "Tai kama and fresh nori kama rice" and it was incredibly delicious! I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. My friend ordered the Iberico pork kama rice and it was also delicious, so it seems like anything you order here is good. There was one staff member whose customer service was a bit lacking, but the amazing taste made me want to come back again! The atmosphere inside the restaurant is calm and relaxing, perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal.

I visited this restaurant located on the 2nd floor of Atre, directly connected to Ueno Station. I visited on a Sunday, which was the middle day of a three-day weekend. I had made a reservation in advance and arrived around 6:30 PM. The restaurant was about 70% full. I had reserved a private room, but the walls were thin and the noise from passing trains was quite loud, so it wasn't a very quiet atmosphere. I ordered a variety of dishes including meat, fish, and salad. However, by 7 PM, most of the sashimi was sold out, and even dishes like seafood hitsumabushi were also sold out. Finally, the restaurant closed completely at 9 PM, leaving me dissatisfied with things other than the food. As for the taste, it was not bad, but the portions were a bit small. The sashimi was thickly sliced, and the thick grilled egg had a good balance of sweetness and saltiness. Overall, the prices were reasonable, the variety of dishes was good, but due to the atmosphere and the high rate of menu items being sold out, I would give this rating.

By the way, there is a restaurant street on the second floor of Ueno Station, but I've never been there, so I took a peek at what kind of shops there are. They have sushi, tonkatsu, soba, Western food, and more. I decided to visit the restaurant at the very back, which was a kamameshi (kettle rice) shop. They had about 5-6 types of kamameshi. I ordered the Iberico pork and mushroom kamameshi. It takes about 30 minutes to cook, so I also ordered some fried chicken. - The fried chicken had a crispy coating that was delicious. The texture was like no other, almost like a snack. It was refreshing with lemon squeezed on top. The meat inside was also firm and tasty. - The kamameshi arrived in a set style. It was filled with plenty of ingredients. Mixing it with the rice paddle revealed some crispy rice at the bottom. The rice was dyed brown with sauce and tasted delicious. I appreciate the delicate, elegant kamameshi, but I still prefer a stronger flavor. Both dishes at this restaurant were a hit. Thank you for the meal.

I had the Oyama chicken and burdock pot rice. The burdock aroma was almost nonexistent, and the Oyama chicken was tough and dry. I wonder how much broth was used in cooking the chicken. The rice texture was good, but overall, it was disappointing. I'm curious about trying other pot rice dishes. The sashimi platter with 3 types of fish, the tuna was watery, but the salmon was delicious. I might want to try other pot rice dishes.

In Ueno, we wanted something light and casual to snack on and drink. We didn't have any specific cravings that day. I didn't have a good impression the one time I went before, but when I went back after a long time, the service and the food were really good! The grilled local chicken had crispy skin and a delicious aroma, and the meat was juicy! The sauce that came with it was also tasty. My partner, who always wants to finish with rice, ordered the rice cooked in a pot, and it was quite delicious too! Wait, was it this good before? If so, I can definitely come back again! The restaurants in Atre are usually not that great, but now we have more options!

On 6th August 2023, before the LE VELVETS concert at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, my friend made a reservation for lunch at "MaiKa," a restaurant specializing in Oyama Jidori chicken and fresh fish. I arrived a little late, so we met inside the restaurant. We had the colorful course menu which included: Edamame Tofu for the first course, Assorted Sashimi for the second course, Oyama Jidori Chicken and Summer Vegetable Salad for the cold dish, Oyama Jidori Chicken Thigh Yakitori for the grilled dish, MaiKa's Chawanmushi for the steamed dish, Oyama Jidori Chicken Karaage with rice flour for the fried dish, Oyama Jidori Chicken and Sweet Corn Hagi Kama Kettle-cooked Rice for the main dish, Red Miso Soup for the soup, and the dessert of the day. It was a weekend lunch reservation. I chose this restaurant based on its convenient location, no worry about rain, and a variety of menu options. We all chose different kinds of kamameshi. It took about 20 minutes for the kamameshi to be cooked after ordering. Since we didn't have any other plans, we chatted while waiting. I had the sea bream and fresh seaweed kamameshi. I mixed the sea bream meat with my favorite seaweed. The crispy rice at the bottom added a nice fragrance. There were also sashimi and chawanmushi, making it a very satisfying lunch.

I went to have lunch alone. The kama-meshi looked very appealing, but since I was in a bit of a hurry, I decided to go with the sashimi set meal which could be served quickly! It looked luxurious and was very delicious. With the increase in tourists, I was surprised to find such a calm and spacious restaurant in the bustling area of Ueno. The staff were very matter-of-fact. Next time, I will try the kama-meshi. Thank you for the meal, it was delicious! ✨

I made a reservation for a course at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of Atre, so the interior is clean and it was nice that it wasn't too crowded at that time. The food and drinks were decent for the price. It would have been better if the staff's manners were a bit more polite to match the atmosphere...

Ueno is easily accessible from the station and the restaurant is spacious, making it a great place to enjoy a leisurely meal. They have semi-private rooms inside as well. I went with friends and ordered the limited quantity Thick-cut Beef Tongue Stew Set (1980 yen). The meat was tender and went well with the rice, so I ended up getting a second helping of rice. I wanted to top it off with a raw egg, which wasn't on the menu, but I asked the staff and they added it for an extra 110 yen. Putting the beef tongue on the rice and adding the raw egg made it even more enjoyable and delicious.

I used it with my wife. Everything was delicious and it was a satisfying lunch. The seasoning of the simmered dish is a bit strong, so the rice goes well, but personally, I felt it could be a little lighter. I will use it again if I have the chance. Thank you for the meal.

It is located inside Ueno Station Atre. The semi-private room at the back of the store is a hidden gem where you can relax and forget about the hustle and bustle of Ueno. Hello (^o^)/ Life is slowly returning to pre-COVID times. It's been 3 years since I had a drinking party with my seniors. In the evening, we took a leisurely stroll to see the cherry blossoms before the drinking party. My seniors reserved a course with premium all-you-can-drink for 6,000 yen per person. According to my seniors, the course prices have increased slightly. I aimed to conquer the all-you-can-drink sake menu, but out of the 6 types, I only tried 4 ( ´-`) Tokyo Komachi → Tokyo Saketenndo → Koshino Kage Tora → Asa Hiraku φ(..) They were easy to drink and didn't leave a hangover the next day, good sake ( ´∀` )b It's been 3 years, so the conversation flowed and we had a great time (~▽~@)♪♪♪ My seniors are aware of my food log activities, so thank you as always! The course dishes were also generous, with a good balance of vegetables, sashimi, and meat, and we enjoyed them (^o^) The staff's service was smooth, and I thought the organizer had a stress-free experience. We used it with 8 people. There are private rooms where you can relax. The clientele has an adult vibe, which is a good impression. It's different from Ameyoko. The kama-meshi (kettle rice) was recommended and quite delicious. The 6500 yen all-you-can-drink course meal was decent. It's interesting that Dassai sake is included in the all-you-can-drink. I would like to use it again if I have the opportunity. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant around 1 PM on a regular day. The atmosphere inside was calm and relaxing. I ordered the Beef Sukiyaki set meal for 1550 yen. It was served in about 10 minutes. The thinly sliced beef had a rich flavor and was tender, pairing well with the rice. The balance of vegetables and meat was good. The chawanmushi had a light sauce on top. The miso soup had a nice flavor, and overall, it was a satisfying set meal. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

This is my third visit to this restaurant. The course meal included a sashimi assortment, fresh raw vegetables, simmered dish, grilled dish, tempura, steamed rice with red snapper collar and fresh seaweed, red miso soup, and a custard dessert, all of which were delicious. It's convenient being located in the station, and it seems even more user-friendly for large groups. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again on another occasion.

I used the 4,000 yen course with all-you-can-drink option. I thought that for 4,500 yen, it would come with mixed rice, but the dish that came out was a flavorful mixed rice. It was a pleasant surprise. The appetizer, sashimi, and salad all came out at once, but it was fine as they were all cold dishes. The sashimi was surprisingly delicious for a tenant in a station building. The all-you-can-drink beer was Asahi Super Dry in medium bottles, and the sake was Hakutsuru. The drinks were promptly provided when requested, so there was no stress. The only downside was that the restroom is a bit far from the restaurant, being in the shared area of the mall, especially for women (men's restroom is closer). Since it's directly connected to the station, it seems convenient to use in the future. Thank you for the meal.

The restaurant is calm and offers reasonably priced lunch options. I visited after going to the Ueno Museum! I debated between the daily ginger pork and the grilled fish set, but since I hadn't had fish in a while, I chose the grilled mackerel. Considering the atmosphere and quality of the food, I think 1000 yen is reasonable. However, I was a bit disappointed with the small side dishes compared to the samples displayed outside the restaurant. It's a good place for a quiet meal or for meeting up with friends you haven't seen in a while, or for a mom's gathering.

I had lunch in Ueno after a long time. I decided to play it safe and have a lunch in a Japanese restaurant at the station with a 4-digit price, or rather, it was more like being guided by GOTO. Since I made a last-minute reservation, it was difficult to confirm, but I was guided to a counter seat for one person. I ordered the grilled fish set menu for 1100 yen. Today's grilled fish is silver salmon. It was a holiday, so there were people drinking at lunch and groups having meals, but the atmosphere was somewhat upscale and not too noisy. And here comes the dish. It came with steamed egg custard, tofu with thickened sauce, and miso soup. For me, it was quite an elegant lunch. The silver salmon may not be the best, but it was definitely delicious. Being located in the station, I felt a strong sense of reliability that even customers from afar could enjoy without worry.

I had a family lunch at Maika in Atre inside Ueno Station. We ordered the weekly special set meal for 1,100 yen and the Kama-age udon and Teoke chirashi set meal for 1,350 yen. The weekly special, which was salmon marinated in miso, was quite large and had a gentle sweet taste, very juicy. The Kama-age set had a generous portion of Kama-age udon and Teoke chirashi, which was so filling that even sharing with my child left us feeling stuffed. It was a surprising hidden gem! We enjoyed our meal today as well.
