At the beginning of 2022, I went to a special buffet of South Indian cuisine for dining out. I saw the menu on Facebook for the special buffet at "Nirvanam," a South Indian restaurant, and decided to visit right away. "Nirvanam" has multiple branches in Tokyo, including Kojimachi, Toranomon, Ginza, and Ariake, and they were open during the New Year period. Each branch has slightly different menus. I usually go to the Kojimachi branch, but since there is one in Ginza as well, I decided to go there this time. The Ginza branch is located on the restaurant floor of Ginza Velvia-kan, where LOFT is also located. When we arrived at the restaurant after 1 pm, there was a long line of people waiting outside, and the place was bustling. Everyone in line, except for my husband and me, were Indian, either with their families or friends, eagerly waiting for a table. It was exciting to see locals gathering at the restaurant during the New Year, and I had high expectations for the delicious food. The conversations around me were in foreign languages, and even the staff members were conversing in a language other than Japanese, creating an atmosphere as if I were dining abroad. The menu for the day was displayed outside the restaurant, featuring a special buffet for the New Year period, with Mutton Biryani being the highlight. After a short wait, we were able to enter as a table for two became available. Lunchtime only offered a buffet, and drinks had to be ordered separately from the menu. Each table had hypochlorous acid water, which was reassuring as some people eat Indian food with their hands. Now, let's talk about the dishes I tried. The buffet included Hyderabadi Chicken Curry, Mutton Dum Biryani, Lemon Chicken Dry, Butter Naan, Mixed Veg Curry, Lobhia Masala, Sambar, Wada, Raita, Green Salad, Pickles, Coconut Chutney, Chili Sauce, Saffron Rice, and dessert (Semiyapaynam). I tried two types of curry, chicken, biryani, naan, and salad. The curries were mild and easy to eat, and the Lemon Chicken was crispy and flavorful. The Biryani was spicy and exceptionally delicious! The naan was a bit disappointing as it was not as fluffy as I would have liked, but overall, I was very satisfied with the other dishes. My wife had Wada and Chicken Curry, and we also tried the Saffron Rice later on. Both were delicious, with the Wada being freshly fried and crispy, and the Saffron Rice having a unique texture compared to the Biryani. Despite the crowded restaurant, the food turnover was quick, and we were able to enjoy the dishes in their best condition. The taste was consistent with the Kojimachi branch, but the ambiance at the Ginza branch, being in Ginza Velvia-kan, was more pleasant. The lunch price was the same at both branches, 1,200 yen, but the Ginza branch was slightly more expensive due to the separate consumption tax. It may be worth checking the menu before deciding which branch to visit. Starting the new year with delicious South Indian cuisine was a delightful dining experience. It felt like saying, "Osechi is nice, but curry is good too" (laughs).
