無芸小食
This is "Kanda Godai," an udon izakaya along the Nihonbashi Street owned by the Honjinbo Group. The Honjinbo Group consists of eight companies including Ikuma Consultancy Co., Ikuma Enterprise Co., Ajikan Co., Tokiwa Co., Honjinbo Co., Kamekura Co., Yukiko Co., and Shichifuku Co. The group started in 1978 with a counter-only shop in Shinbashi Umon Street and now has over ten stores in the Tokyo metropolitan area, with dozens of apprentices nationwide. In the Kanda Minami area, following the openings of Kanda Honjinbo (2010), Kanda Ajikan (2012), Kanda Manmaru (2015) -> Uotomi, Uosho (2016), Kanda Godai opened in 2017. Later in 2018, Yuto Gyoko also opened. According to the websites of Akariya and Kosen, who trained at the Honjinbo Group, it is mentioned that "President Ikuma Yamamoto is an apprentice at his uncle's shop (a soba shop next to Hirabayashi Temple) under the guidance of his mentor, Tomosho Katakura." I visited during the weekday lunchtime. The restaurant has a total of 28 seats with 2-4 person tables. Lunch is basically around 1,000 yen. There are set meals, udon and rice bowl sets, tempura udon, duck udon, and special tempura rice bowl on the menu. I was a bit indecisive, but I chose the special tempura rice bowl (1,000 yen). There was another menu item called "upper tempura rice bowl," so is the special one better than the upper one? The special tempura rice bowl includes fresh conger eel, 2 large shrimp, eggplant, pumpkin, and egg tempura. It comes with a side dish, pickles, and miso soup. The crispy tempura with sweet and savory sauce was consistently delicious. They also have drinks like Kokuryu, Juyondai, and Joknow, but it may not be the best for casual drinking.
