Just a minute's walk from the north exit of Kizukawa Station stands "Manfukutei," a well-known sake bar among those in the know. The exterior of the place is a rusty wooden building that may seem unwelcoming to first-time visitors, creating a strange atmosphere. It is located on the basement floor. Inside, the place is very stylish, with two 6-person tables near the entrance, an L-shaped counter with 7 seats, and two 2-person tables, making it quite compact. When I visited around 6:40 pm, the place was packed, so I had made a reservation and was seated at the counter in the back. I started with a bottle of beer to quench my thirst and since there is no menu, you have to either choose from the large plate dishes in front of you or ask the regular customers for recommendations. I had done some research beforehand, so I ordered the sashimi platter. The appetizer was dried young sardines tempura, which had a strong fish flavor and a nice texture. After about 10 minutes of waiting, the sashimi platter arrived, featuring various types of fresh sashimi like tuna, bonito, marinated mackerel, and conger eel, all placed beautifully on a wooden geta. The freshness was top-notch and delicious! After finishing my bottle of beer, I ordered a kabosu sour for my second drink and added the "potato butter" and the famous "croquette" that a regular customer had ordered. The kabosu sour had a tantalizing sourness from the kabosu fruit. The potato butter came with salted cod roe, a perfect combination for a drinker like me, and it was undeniably delicious! Lastly, the croquette came with curry for some reason, which gave off a simple and nostalgic taste that was heartwarming. The atmosphere created by the owner and the regular customers was simply irresistible, making you want to become a regular yourself. If you're curious and thinking about visiting, muster up some courage and give it a try! (There are various reasons why you might need to be brave when visiting this place...) --- [Menu] - Appetizer: Unknown - Sashimi platter: Unknown - Potato butter: Unknown - Croquette: Unknown ************************ - Kabosu sour: Unknown ---

I discovered an amazing bar. I was meeting with colleagues in Shibuya and wanted to choose a fun place since we were all close. This place was right in front of the Kamiyama station exit. When we went downstairs, it was incredibly lively and had a fun atmosphere. There were various dishes lined up at the counter. The regular customers were bantering, and the master and mistress were working efficiently. I immediately knew it was a great bar. There was no menu, you just point to what you want to order. We had macaroni salad, fried natto wrapped in pork, tonkatsu, assorted sashimi, ginger pork, tsukune with skin, bottled beer, and about 4-5 lemon sours. The bill for two people was around 7500 yen. It was a blissful experience. I love this kind of place! I want to go back again!

Manpukutei, Shibuya-ku, Maruyamacho 16-8 When you go down a narrow staircase and enter the semi-basement interior, you will find a retro Showa-era bar. Regular customers tend to sit at the counter alone, while groups of two or more people sit at the tables. The counter seats about 12 people, and there are four tables. There is no menu, you just order what the chef is making. It's like ordering side dishes. This time, I ordered: - Okra with sesame dressing - Tamagoyaki (Japanese omelette) - Deep-fried natto - Skewers (pork neck and tsukune) - Salmon sashimi All the dishes were delicious, especially the okra with sesame dressing which was exceptional. And the best part is that this place is very affordable! Since it was my second stop of the night and the place was full, I left early to make space for others. Next time, I will make sure to start my night here.

The restaurant opens at 5pm on weekdays. When we first arrived, we were the only ones there, but it got pretty crowded later with regular customers. There are large plates of food lined up on the counter, and if you ask for something, it comes out right away. All the snacks were delicious, with some unusual ones like pickled garlic. It's also convenient being close to a live house in Shibuya! There's no menu, so all the prices are unknown, but I ended up spending around 3000 yen per person after drinking quite a bit. Will definitely visit again!

I have been to Kansen Station a few times, but I didn't know there was a shop right across the tracks. The interior has a nice atmosphere with a traditional feel. There is no menu, so you can either choose from the obanzai dishes on the counter or ask the owner to make something for you. We had 2 medium-sized beers, 1 glass of sake, sashimi platter, shrimp and green pepper chili sauce, mapo tofu, menchi katsu, curry, tsukune and hormone skewers, all for 4900 yen. I'm not sure how much each dish costs, haha. Smoking is allowed, so it was a bit smoky for me as a non-smoker. The food was decently delicious, and it was a nice atmosphere. The dishes were quite sweet with a lot of sugar.

I entered the underground shop right near Kansen Station after 7 pm. The place was almost full, but I managed to slip into a table. The atmosphere was very Showa era, which I personally enjoyed. The soft and friendly female waitress really stood out to me. I ordered a bottle of beer and a few side dishes. The sashimi portion was quite generous, although some types had a slightly strong smell, but overall it was okay. Everything else was delicious, and the conversation flowed easily. The regular customers at the counter seemed to know each other, with people of various ages enjoying drinks together. The atmosphere and food were just great, but as a shochu lover, I was disappointed by the very weak carbonation. It might just be a problem with the carbonation machine, so I will come back to check again. I will definitely come back, thank you for the meal.

A shop located right near Kizukawa Station. It is underground. There is no menu. It is small. Smoking is allowed. The toilet is Japanese-style. You order by pointing at dishes on the large plates at the counter. Beer is available in bottles or cans. The sashimi and tuna cutlet were delicious! (It would be even better if smoking was not allowed and the toilet was cleaner, haha)

While drinking alone at another bar, I received a message from a friend to meet at this second bar. I had already been drinking for about two hours, so I was quite drunk (lol). I arrived after 7 pm. It was a place where they serve large shared dishes like obanzai. The restaurant was crowded and lively with many regular customers. I switched from beer to another drink, but it was already last call. I liked the atmosphere, so I'll try to come earlier next time. Thank you for the meal!

12/05 Sunny Today was my second time in Shibuya. I had a drink alone before heading to my appointment. Then I went to a place not too far away in Jinbocho. It was a half-basement restaurant that I went down to. I was able to sit at the counter. In front of me were large dishes of food. It seemed like there wasn't a specific menu, and I couldn't find a drink menu either, so I asked if they had shochu highball. For the appetizer, I was served oden with ganmo and daikon. For my order, I asked for simmered conger eel, but it turned out to be anago. They warmed it up, sprinkled it with sansho pepper, and served it. The flavor of the simmering liquid was different, not quite like conger eel. The texture was different, but it was similar to flounder. However, I was surprised at how cheap the bill was.

Visited Manpukutei in Kamizawa on a certain day in November. One thing to note is that they do not have a menu. You can order from the various side dishes lined up on the counter. I had a lemon sour, meat tofu, okra with sesame dressing, and stir-fried squid and vegetables. The counter was bustling with what seemed to be regular customers. The meat tofu had a gentle flavor. The counter is small, so it would be nice to enjoy various dishes and drinks with 3 or 4 people at a table. It was a restaurant that made me feel the Showa era. Thank you for the delicious meal ♡

Amidst numerous eateries, this izakaya stands out as a local gathering spot. There are no prices listed, so you simply choose dishes from what's available. Start with a beer and order dishes like okra with sesame, stir-fried squid and vegetables, and mapo tofu. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. The bill is also reasonable, making it a wonderful experience.

An izakaya that was established around 1985 (Showa 60). Everything you eat here is overwhelmingly delicious and inexpensive, making it a renowned izakaya. There are no menus displayed inside the restaurant; instead, you can choose directly from the large dishes lined up on the counter or ask the owner for recommendations. When it gets crowded, the owner, who handles everything from start to finish without a break, is always impressive. Some recommended dishes include assorted sashimi and meatballs.

I finally went to the restaurant "Manpukutei" that I had heard was delicious and cheap. It is located just a short walk from Shibuya Station, about 10 minutes. There are several nice-looking individual shops around this area. The restaurant is located on the basement floor, down the stairs. About 80% of the counter and table seats were taken. Since there were two of us, we sat at an available table for the time being. We were told that we could move to the counter seats when they became available. This place is known for not having a menu, so you choose the side dishes around the counter and order them yourself. The large dishes all looked delicious. We started with a lemon sour drink and the complimentary potato salad was tasty. After about 20 minutes, counter seats opened up and we moved there. As a gesture, the owner gave us a macaroni salad as a service for moving. It was a nice surprise. I like my macaroni salad a bit firm, and this one was recommended. We ordered various large dishes. The meat and tofu dish was a classic and comforting. The fried flounder was not something you would make at home, but it was delicious even with just salt. The assorted sashimi plate had tuna, octopus, salmon, scallop, and mackerel, all of which were tasty. The grilled fish, maybe it was bonito, marinated in miso was also delicious. The vegetable salad had fresh asparagus and was very tasty. I was told by a regular customer sitting next to me that the sake here is cheap, so I ended up drinking a lot of sake. They kept pouring generously. Some people were also eating curry, which looked delicious. There were also solo female diners, so it seems welcoming for all types of customers. With three people, including one who had soft drinks, the bill was around 10,000 yen, which is incredibly cheap. I ended up oversleeping on the Yamanote Line and taking a taxi home, so be careful not to drink too much. I definitely want to go back to this restaurant.

The small shop is always packed and it's the kind of place you want to revisit once you've been there. The obanzai-style dishes are all delicious, including the sashimi. The lack of a menu with prices can be concerning, but there's no need to worry as the prices are very reasonable – you won't spend more than 3000 yen even with drinks. I personally love the barley umeshu, which is not only tasty because of the plum fruit but also because of the generous amount of shiso leaves. This is a hidden gem that I want to keep to myself, but it's definitely a great find!

A very cozy restaurant run by a couple. There is no menu, you choose from the various side dishes lined up at the counter or in the refrigerated case. Two large bottles of beer and two dishes for 2,000 yen. Delicious, cheap. The ceiling is covered with what looks like Buddhist prayers.

The hot water mixed with plenty of red perilla is really delicious. I feel so happy when they put this much perilla in it. The side dishes are always delicious. The restaurant is always crowded. Even though it's Monday, there were so many customers that it was overflowing.
