Tokyo Metro Namboku Line "Azabu-Juban Station" 4th exit, 3 minutes walk from Toei Oedo Line "Azabu-Juban Station" 7th exit, 2 minutes walk. A popular sweet treat at the Azabu-Juban Festival. Today, I stopped by during regular business hours. Waffle Custard for 200 yen. The moist waffle with a subtly sweet custard is delicious! Instagram ID: kuidaore.8.

This is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located in Azabu-Juban. Established in 1910 as a branch of the main store of Kinundo in Asakusa, this shop is known for its signature products such as "Kinu Senbei" (tile-shaped rice crackers), "Ningyo-yaki" (doll-shaped cakes), and "Waffles" made using the technique of Ningyo-yaki. The current owners, the 3rd and 4th generation of the Suzuki family, continue to make these delicious sweets. The popular "Waffles" were invented by the 2nd generation Suzuki in the 1950s, and they come in regular (apricot jam, custard cream) and seasonal flavors. Some items may sell out by the afternoon, so it's best to visit early. The shop is located about 3 minutes from Azabu-Juban Station Exit 4, along Zoshi Street in a red building on the 1st floor. The shop has a deep interior with a display case showcasing the waffles at the front and Kinu Senbei, Ningyo-yaki, and rice crackers at the back. The waffles come in apricot jam, custard cream, matcha cream, and mandarin orange jam flavors. The service is friendly and efficient. I purchased the following items (prices include tax): - Waffle with Mandarin Orange Jam (200 yen) - Waffle with Matcha Cream (200 yen) - Waffle with Custard Cream (200 yen) The waffle dough is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, enveloping the fillings gently. The Mandarin Orange Jam waffle has a filling made with Shonan Gold fruit peel, while the Matcha Cream waffle features smooth cream with a strong matcha flavor. The Custard Cream waffle is a popular choice with its smooth and delicious custard filling. The waffle dough pairs well with any filling, making it a delightful treat. I particularly enjoyed the Custard Cream waffle, which can last for 2 days, making it a great souvenir option.

While researching for souvenirs at Asakusa, I came across a shop that I had visited before where the waffles were all sold out. This time, I made sure to visit with plenty of time on a Saturday around noon, and I was able to get in right away. The waffles had custard, coffee cream, and a limited-time Mont Blanc flavor. I purchased custard and Mont Blanc waffles for my family. The total came to 2,000 yen for 5 of each flavor. When I got home, we immediately tried them. The custard waffle was not too sweet and delicious. The dough had honey mixed in, giving it a great flavor. On the other hand, the Mont Blanc had a strong chestnut flavor, and the dough was like a chiffon cake. Both were very tasty, although the size was small and the price was a bit high. They might make a nice gift for someone. Thank you for the meal.

When I come to Azabu-Juban, I always stop by Naniwaya for their delicious Ningyo-yaki filled with red bean paste. I love them so much that I ended up finishing the whole box by myself. I also tried their waffles this time, although I originally wanted Mont Blanc cream, which was sold out. The waffles were fluffy with a not-too-sweet cream, and they were really delicious. The staff were very friendly and approachable, making the old-fashioned atmosphere of the place even more enjoyable. #Azabu-Juban Station #Azabu-Juban Cafe #Azabu-Juban Gourmet #Azabu-Juban Kibundo

Custard ¥150: The custard inside the firm and chewy dough is almost like eating a firm and jiggly pudding. The dough is not very sweet, while the custard is slightly sweet with a strong vanilla scent. I really liked the firm texture of the dough.

After having lunch with a friend, we went for a walk and decided we wanted to eat something we hadn't had in a while. Last time we were there, we had the custard cream waffle and were really impressed. This time, we were aiming for the custard again, but we noticed the name "Tsujiri" and asked the owner about it. I felt a bit embarrassed for asking such a silly question, but the owner calmly replied, "We've always been Tsujiri." So, I humbly ordered the matcha waffle (170 yen) and ate it on the bench outside. The matcha cream was perfectly balanced, not too sweet or bitter, and I silently praised it. My friend also had the matcha waffle and was impressed by the matcha cream. After that, we went to another shop, but my friend liked the waffle so much that she went back to buy some as a souvenir. The delicious waffles will definitely be a go-to spot for us in the future. On a side note, there was a poster of the Yakult Swallows at the shop entrance. I'm not sure if the Yakult players favor Azabu-Juban, but it seemed like the whole shopping street was supporting the team. Next time I go, I want to hear the story of Yakult and Azabu-Juban while enjoying a waffle.

In the Asakusa area, there is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop. I knew they sold ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes), but I never expected them to have waffles as well... and these waffles are surprisingly delicious. The seasonal Mont Blanc waffle, with its carefully made chestnut cream, is so tasty! You should try out the other options too.

I visited here in Asakusa, Matsubu-Juuban. In the back of the shop, you can see artisans making ningyo-yaki. I tried the "custard waffle". The way the sponge is baked around it shows the skill of making ningyo-yaki. The custard cream also has a delicious flavor.

When it comes to traditional Japanese sweets in Asakusa, taiyaki is famous, but in our house, we love the waffles from Kibundo! My mother especially enjoys them. It's amazing that they have been in business for 111 years. With many shops closing due to the pandemic, I hope they continue to thrive. The atmosphere inside the shop is nostalgic and comforting, making me smile secretly. Often when passing by later in the day, the glass case is empty, indicating the waffles are sold out. But on this day, around noon, I was lucky to find waffles available! The apricot jam was out, so I ordered the classic custard, matcha cream, and purple sweet potato paste. They mentioned they could bring out the apricot jam from the back, but I decided to try something different this time. (In the end, my mother lightly complained, "But apricot jam is my favorite!") I accidentally served them to my family before taking a photo of their beautiful appearance, but the purple color of the sweet potato paste and the green of the matcha cream were both lovely. The matcha cream was less sweet than I expected. The custard cream had its reliable flavor, and the purple sweet potato paste had just the right amount of sweetness.

・Waffle (custard) ・ Waffle (sweet potato) The waffle batter is very fluffy and has a gentle sweetness. The custard itself is also mildly sweet, with a light texture. The sweet potato filling was dense and hearty. I thought it was meant to be eaten cold, but they actually made the waffle fresh to order and filled it with cream or sweet potato paste. (Maybe because I went right at opening time?) I was able to confirm that it is a beloved sweet treat that has been enjoyed for many years.

Kibundo is located on a side street off Azabu-Juban Dori. They have been in business since the 23rd year of the Meiji era and specialize in hand-baked goods. When I visited on a Saturday evening, their stock was running low. I tried the waffle with apricot jam, recommended by Terumon Jimon. The waffle had the letters "AZABUJUBAN KIBUNDO" on it, and the apricot filling was sweet and sour, complementing the soft dough. I also tried the chocolate waffle, which had a delicious chocolate cream filling that was not too sweet. I look forward to trying their ningyo-yaki and senbei next time.

(*^▽^*) Blog ⇒ [Riding on the Flowing Clouds♪] Once upon a time, I used to live around here. It was a very poor and miserable life, with barely enough to eat. I struggled to get by with daily part-time jobs and truly faced extreme hardship. Azabu-Juban is a neighborhood where the affluent should live! I think so now, even though I lived there. The reason I lived in Azabu-Juban was because I shared a room with multiple people. So, the rent wasn't that much of a burden, but the quality-price ratio for everything was poor. Especially eating out was particularly bad in terms of quality-price, so I mostly cooked for myself. Therefore, I used to go to Daiei late at night to hunt for discounted items. I had no money to move out, so I had no choice but to live in Azabu-Juban... but I would pass by Eikichi Yazawa on my way back from shopping. You wouldn't experience that in a residential neighborhood (^^;) If it was Kageki Shimoda, I would pass by him every day... Azabu-Juban is full of such charms (← Really?) It has been over 10 years since then, and now, I can at least eat out. But most importantly, it's not easy to visit if I move away from Tokyo. So, I decided to set up a "Azabu-Juban Rediscovery Week"! I will patrol all the places that have changed and those that haven't changed♪ Azabu-Juban has many long-established shops, and among them, there are many traditional Japanese sweets shops. I think "Azabu-Juban Kibundo" is one of the representative shops. The words "Thanks to you, 110th Anniversary" on the storefront are divine. However, the signboard in front of the shop states that it was founded in the 23rd year of Meiji. In that case, it should be the 130th anniversary... (^^;) I was curious, so I looked it up and found out that it was actually founded in the 43rd year of Meiji. And that settles it! (← Is it really settled?) (laughs) So... (← I don't know what that means) (laughs) As written on the signboard, this is a shop that sells ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes). Currently, the fourth-generation husband and wife run the shop. Despite their looks, the couple exudes no sense of being a long-established shop! They are a very stylish young couple! However, their customer service is just like that of a traditional shop. The crucial ningyo-yaki also has a taste that gives off a sense of tradition. If you visit Azabu-Juban, be sure to stop by. A long-established shop founded in the Meiji era that will surely survive even in Reiwa! ☆━━━...‥・ Twistman's Room ・‥...━━━☆ Service: ♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪ Food: ♪♪♪♪♪♪♪ CP: ♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪ ※ If there are 10 ♪ in a row, it's a perfect score! Before I knew it, the chestnut Mont Blanc, coffee cream, and ningyo-yaki that I was eyeing were all sold out. However, I love apricot jam, so I decided to go with the apricot jam waffle. I also picked up some cute blow-up treats as a year-end gift for my colleagues. The apricot jam and waffle were delicious as always. Thank you for the meal.

Established 109 years ago, "Kibundo" is a prestigious establishment in Azabu-Juban. Located just off Jujo-dori, towards the patio, with "Kan'ei-do" also nearby where I often buy black bean tea. Many hostesses from Roppongi also live in Azabu-Juban. Some of them, as they age, become mothers. There is a prominent Roppongi "A Mama" who is slightly younger than me, whom I have known for almost 27-28 years. She introduced me to these ningyo-yaki treats from Kibundo, which I have had a few times and enjoyed. The first time I tried them, I was probably a young and inexperienced guy in my twenties, so I didn't think they were particularly delicious. Perhaps it was because I was still new to the world of Edo-style confections. However, as I have grown older, I have come to appreciate the goodness of these ningyo-yaki treats more and more. There is a simple taste and a weight that cannot be expressed in words. These treats are filled with plenty of sweet bean paste, giving them a certain heft. The crispy branding on the thin skin combines with the richness of the bean paste to create a harmonious flavor. The back of the treats also bears the brand names "Kibun" and "kibun." I feel that as the fourth generation takes over, the sweetness has been toned down a bit. They go well with both coffee and matcha. The service is also excellent. I purchased the "Ningyo-yaki" (100 yen/tax excluded per piece) as shown in the photo, along with three popular "waffles," "custard" (130 yen/each), "apricot jam" (130 yen/each), "coffee cream" (150 yen/each), and the pressed "fuki-yose" (100 yen/each). The custard pairs well with tea, the apricot jam has a subtle sweetness with a hint of apricot tartness, the coffee cream combines two delightful flavors, and the fuki-yose allows for a variety of tastes to be enjoyed easily. They are visually appealing and make for a lovely tea accompaniment. This was my first time visiting the shop alone. I usually only visited for souvenirs or received treats as gifts. It was also my first time meeting the fourth-generation owner. While I won't say it's automatically great just because it's an old establishment, there was a certain tension in the air within the shop that I could sense. It was a bit nostalgic. Today, my friend and I decided to visit some bakeries and sweet shops in Azabu-Juban before having lunch. In this area, there are many shops that have been featured in the media and are popular among celebrities, but we chose to visit a shop that was established in 1910 and is known for its hand-baked Japanese waffles. We purchased a "ningyo-yaki" for 100 yen and a custard waffle for 130 yen. The "ningyo-yaki" had a fluffy dough filled with sweet red bean paste, giving it a substantial weight. The waffle had a subtly sweet cream filling, offering a gentle and delightful taste. We wanted to try a variety of treats and it was a satisfying experience. Thank you for the meal.

Today we visited the Azabu-Juban and Koyamacho area. One of the oldest traditional Japanese confectionery shops in Azabu-Juban is "Kibundo," which can be considered one of the oldest of the old in the town. Established in 1910, this shop celebrated its 109th anniversary in 2019. Despite being a traditional Japanese confectionery shop, their popular item is the waffles, which have been featured on TV numerous times. Besides waffles, they also offer ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes), okaki (rice crackers), and senbei (rice crackers). The shop has a nostalgic beige façade and a cozy interior with an L-shaped showcase where you can see the artisans preparing the sweets. The staff, despite the common perception of such shops, were friendly and approachable, especially the young female staff who served us. We tried four types of waffles: custard cream, salted cherry blossom bean paste (seasonal), chocolate cream, and apricot jam. Each waffle had a unique flavor and texture, with the custard cream waffle being particularly light and subtly sweet. We also tried the ningyo-yaki, which were small and cute, with a soft texture and a slightly thick skin filled with smooth red bean paste. Overall, it was a delightful experience.

A long-established shop located a little uphill from Maabu-Juuban Station. You can see the workshop in the back, giving it a handmade feel which is nice. According to the staff, their main sweets are ningyoyaki (doll-shaped cake) and gawarasenbei (tile-shaped rice cracker). They have expanded their lineup to include waffles now. It was close to 4 o'clock, and two out of the four waffle flavors were sold out. Clearly, these are the popular ones. I bought two of the plain cream waffles. They were small and cute. The outside castella cake reminded me of ningyoyaki, and the inside had a cream similar to cream bread. But there was a certain scent to it, and when I checked the ingredients, brandy was the seventh on the list. It has a slightly adult taste. Overall, it felt like an evolved version of ningyoyaki. It's a simple and enjoyable snack.

■Waffles, all flavors. A true Tokyo specialty. There are many shops that sell ningyoyaki (doll-shaped cake), but there are only a few that use the same batter to make waffles, such as Kibundo's few outlets. The branding on the waffle iron seems to vary by store, with this one having "AZABUJUBAN" on it. Custard, coffee, chestnut paste, and apricot jam. Quite a unique lineup. Each goes well with a different drink, which is great for variety. Custard goes well with coffee. Coffee cream should avoid coffee as it cancels out the aroma. Chestnut paste goes well with milk. The lovely apricot jam with strong sweetness goes well with tea. You can wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze them for storage. Natural thawing is fine. I wish they also had red bean paste. Thank you.

This is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop in the Asakusa shopping street. While their traditional Japanese-style waffles and ningyoyaki are popular items, this time I tried their Fuusen! Fuusen is a type of traditional Japanese sweet similar to the one from Kikunoya, and it was delicious with a simple and rustic flavor. The boxed Fuusen came in plain, yukari, ginger, aonori, sesame, as well as colorful sugar candies, making it visually appealing. The gentle plain flavor and the slightly spicy-sweet ginger flavor were especially delicious. In the back of the shop, there were molds for baking senbei lined up, and it was clear that skilled artisans were at work. I would like to try their senbei and waffles next time. Thank you for the meal!
