"Tsukiji Sandai" in Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho. An oyster bar run by a Toyosu wholesale market with the same series as Tsukiji "Chika no Iki". The location is about 10 meters on the right after entering Naka Street from Shinjuku Station direction. The interior of the restaurant has about 10 counter seats. The main menu includes a daily selection of 8 types of fresh oysters and grilled oysters. The food menu also includes 3 simple snacks. The fresh oysters start from a "2-region comparison set" for 980 yen. After ordering a set, you can order from 460 yen per type. Drinks include draft beer, soda, sake, white wine, whiskey, and more. The appetizer is 300 yen with cream cheese crackers, and the cream cheese is quite delicious. Choosing from the 8 types of fresh oysters can be difficult, but each one's characteristics are clearly listed. Also, the recommendations from the president and the store manager are written. "Hokkaido Benten" & "Iwate Akasaki" for 980 yen are the president's recommended 2 types, served freshly opened after ordering. Both are big, glossy oysters. "Benten" has a particularly rich aftertaste. Born in Akkeshi and raised in Akkeshi, but different from "Akkeshi" born in Sanriku. "Akasaki" is relatively refreshing with a good natural saltiness. "Hyogo Murotsu" & "Hokkaido Shiriuchi" for 980 yen are the store manager's recommended 2 types. Murotsu is small, so it comes in 2 pieces. "Shiriuchi" is quite rare near Hakodate. It has freshness, sharpness, and even a fruity taste. "Murotsu" is small but has a wonderfully rich umami flavor. They recommend trying one without lemon, as it is rich and intense. "Grilled Oyster as is" for 500 yen is from "Iwate Yonezaki" and is grilled rare, big, and juicy. The umami of the oyster becomes even richer when grilled, especially when paired with sake. "Hyogo Murotsu" for 460 yen is the favorite and ordered as a single item. They suggest finishing with Tabasco if it's the last one, and a jar of green Tabasco with jalapenos is placed. Squeezing lemon and adding Tabasco to the rich "Murotsu" creates a perfect combination. This combination is so delicious that you'll want to go back for more. On this day, I also ordered a "Gin Soda" for 500 yen and a "Lemoncello Soda" for 500 yen, spending just under 5000 yen for a one-hour stay. Considering the location, it's more of a place for starters than lingering, but the quality of the oysters is quite amazing. About 10 years ago, when I visited Tsukiji "Chika no Iki", I had a somewhat expensive image, but I was very satisfied. The lively conversation with the brisk female store manager was enjoyable, and if you want to enjoy Omoide Yokocho and oysters, it's highly recommended.
