Visited a bar in Ueno called "Umiiya Shinpachi" for some morning bar hopping. It's a 24-hour izakaya that focuses on affordable and delicious food and drinks. The spacious interior has 68 seats, and it was already bustling with people drinking in the morning. I sat at the counter and ordered a variety of dishes to go with my highball. The simmered tripe was incredibly tasty, and the bacon and eggs came with a generous portion of cabbage and two perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs. The thick fried tofu was crispy and fluffy, and the crunchy fried burdock was spicy and addictive. I wish there was a bar like this near my home. Close to Ueno, right next to the main street of Ameyoko. It's a lively alley crowded with casual drinkers. This is my first visit here. I felt like having some yakitori, so I ordered a mixed plate. Hmm, it's not that great. The liver is dry and tough, which is fine for me since I don't like liver anyway. I wish I had mentioned that I don't like liver. Overall, the meat is tough and there's a bit of a smell. Even the boiled squid has a strange smell. Maybe they should lay off the mayonnaise seasoning? The squid is undercooked, drowning in mayonnaise, grated radish, and green onions... it's tough. The tongue is supposedly their specialty, so I thought it would be delicious, but it's incredibly tough and tasteless, with a slight smell. The atmosphere of the restaurant is dim, and I won't be coming back here again.

Visited with a colleague around 9 pm on Thursday. The place was crowded, so we ended up standing while drinking. There was a smoking area next to us, and we chatted with the people nearby. They recommended the house specialties, so we ordered the Chicken Karaage Tower (1400 yen) and the Stir-fried Local Chicken (980 yen). We didn't check the prices beforehand, but they turned out to be quite expensive. The Karaage Tower had a huge portion, suitable for 4 people or more. The taste was nothing special. It was interesting how we ended up getting along with a man who was smoking, and he treated us generously. We had planned to leave after about 2 hours but missed the last train. We were invited to continue drinking at a hotel, but we had work the next day, so we politely declined and headed back to our accommodation.

Normally, izakayas like this rely on phone reservations, so this is a plus. I made a reservation for 6:00 pm and it was still available. Despite the pandemic, this restaurant is open 24 hours, which is its selling point, making it difficult to refrain from going out. By around 8:00 pm, there was a line of customers looking for a second round of drinks. I was surprised!

I chose this restaurant in Ueno that accepts GOTO eat. I made a reservation the day before for around 10 am. When I arrived, there were two other customers already there. Reservations aren't necessary at this time, but I wanted to earn GOTO eat points. The draft beer was around 298 yen during the day, so cheers with a beer! The drinks overall were cheap. The food was a bit on the pricey side. The yakitori was around 150 yen each. We ordered yakitori, liver fry, ham katsu, horse sashimi, draft beer, highball, and sake, and it came to around 3500 yen for two people. Thank you for the meal.

Ueno's bar that stays open until morning offers Asahi Super Dry large bottle for 388 yen! With tax included, it's 424 yen. The cheapest price I knew of before was 400 yen with tax included, but that place closed down. This bar has set a new record. The bacon and eggs dish was delicious, with a slightly burnt surface which I liked. It came with sauce, but I prefer soy sauce. The terrace seating was very pleasant.

The state of emergency was extended, so I arrived at the restaurant early. The interior of the restaurant had a casual pub-like atmosphere. It seemed busier than other nearby restaurants. I ordered various skewers, stuffed bell peppers, grilled beef tongue, boiled pork tongue, tofu with miso paste, and whole grilled squid. The tofu with miso paste had pickled ginger on top and was quite delicious. The whole grilled squid had a generous amount of mayonnaise, making it satisfying to eat. Overall, the cost performance was good. The only downside was that the restroom was a bit dirty.

We only ordered 2 dishes, so we talked the whole time. I had about 4 or 5 drinks in total. If I had 5 drinks and shared 2 dishes, it would cost around 1735 yen per person, which seems reasonable. You can just have one drink and leave quickly, or enjoy eating and drinking slowly. I felt like I found a great place to hang out. Y-san left at 9 pm to meet his friends, but I was completely drunk and ended up making a lot of phone calls to my friend Saki. Draft beer, beef tripe stew, chicken breast, chicken skin, bonjiri (chicken tail), asparagus bacon roll. I stopped by in Ueno to kill some time and had a drink. Having beer during the day is the best. Since it wasn't lunchtime, the place was not crowded. I enjoyed my time reading a novel on my phone. The grilled chicken was crispy and delicious. The beef tripe stew was also delicious as expected! And the asparagus, too. Why is asparagus so tasty? The way they poured the beer wasn't that great. Maybe it's because of the server machine. The menu also had beef tongue, which seems to be one of the specialties of this place. I'd like to try the beef tongue next time I come here.

I used it for a second party I had in Ueno, and the menu was rich in both fish and meat. I thought I was full, but ended up eating more. I especially recommend the boiled tongue. Boiled tongue is recommended over grilled tongue, I think. It's also a good deal to drink at a high rate.

Recently, I went to my favorite Ueno drinking spot on my day off. My friend was running late, so I decided to have a drink by myself first. I went to this place that I had been curious about before because it is open 24 hours. I started with a white hoppy set for 450 yen and a small plate for 220 yen. Later, I had a shochu highball for 496 yen. For food, I ordered anglerfish tempura for 450 yen, cartilage meatball for 248 yen, and grilled cartilage for 162 yen. The anglerfish tempura was processed without bones, which was fine but I still wanted to try the part around the bone. The yakitori was small and slightly overcooked. The shochu highball was served with the shochu and the mixer in separate bottles. It was easy to visit this place alone.
