On April 24, 2013, the area around Nakano Station's north exit is quite lively due to the presence of Kirin Brewery headquarters and universities. Students can be seen everywhere. Three senior men entered a restaurant as adults. They started with a toast of draft beer and boiled edamame with salt. The edamame dish was small, with only about 10 beans, and priced at 520 yen, which seemed expensive for the portion and lacked flavor. They switched to Matsumoto sake and ordered a sashimi platter for two at 3200 yen. The sashimi was fresh but the portion was small. The stir-fried squid innards were delicious. Unfortunately, with the increased liveliness around Nakano Station, the cost performance of the food seemed to have decreased. They decided to leave quickly and go to another restaurant.
On September 6, 2012, after a year, three senior men visited the same restaurant again. They were the only customers at 5:30 pm. They started with a toast of draft beer and then ordered a sashimi platter. The sashimi, including saury, tuna, squid, and octopus, was all fresh and delicious. They tried Kanagawa's "Ryu" sake, but found it a bit sweet, so they switched to Kyoto's "Matsumoto" sake, which was refreshing and easy to drink. The salted kombu marinated water eggplant had a unique taste. They also ordered edamame, grilled chicken wings, and simmered golden-eyed snapper heads, finishing with "negima" skewers. The "negima" skewers had a rich broth with tuna (fatty?), tofu, and leeks, offering a unique taste. They ended up drinking a total of 1.8 liters of "Matsumoto" sake among the three of them, which was a good value at around 5000 yen per person. More customers arrived later, all adults, which seemed fitting.
Located in a quiet corner near Broadway at Nakano Station's north exit, this restaurant stands out among the area's calm and mature establishments. Despite the recent trend of chain restaurants creating a subdued atmosphere with dim lighting and private booths, this place is truly a restaurant for adults. The clientele tends to be slightly older. The sashimi and side dishes are all delicious. The Kyoto sake "Matsumoto" served in individual cups is refreshing and easy to drink. Be cautious on the external staircase when leaving.
