A thousand yen lunch of Gapao rice♪ The taste was authentic and delicious. The restaurant had about 3-4 counter seats, one table for 4 people, and around 3 tables for 2 people each. For a thousand yen, you could choose from about 6 options, and it came with salad and coconut milk tapioca pudding.

Located in Hamadayama, Suginami-ku, Tokyo, this Thai restaurant opened in November 2021. The nearest station is Hamadayama Station on the Keio Inokashira Line. It is situated along the station platform and tracks. It takes about 3-4 minutes on foot from the ticket gate, as you need to walk around and cross the railroad crossing. While the local trains are not too noisy, the sound and vibration from the express trains passing by give the restaurant a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere. During my visit around noon on a weekday, there were six customers already seated (including a group of four mom friends) and one customer who came in later. The interior of the restaurant is quite compact, and it seems like it could get crowded with around 10 people. The staff, consisting of three Thai women, create a homely atmosphere similar to being in a Thai household. After placing my order verbally, I tried the Tom Yum Ta-chan set for 1,080 yen, which came with rice, salad, and dessert. It was described as a Thai countryside-style ramen. Instead of the usual sour and spicy Tom Yum, it was made with thin Sen Lek noodles. The dish included minced chicken, fried wontons, fish balls, coriander, daikon, dried shrimp, chopped green onions, and more. The soup was a light chicken broth base, so adding condiments like Krung Phung (chili vinegar) was necessary to adjust the flavor. I finished off the meal by mixing the rice into the remaining soup. Most of the other customers ordered the Gapao set, which seemed popular. I'll have to try that next time. Overall, it was a delicious meal, and I would consider revisiting this cozy restaurant. #Hamadayama #Thai cuisine #Homely atmosphere #Thai curry #Sound of passing trains #Takeout #Gapao is popular #Likelihood of revisiting: Yes

With my family, we decided to have lunch in Hamadayama and chose this place based on an Instagram survey that said it serves authentic Thai cuisine. It's only a 2-minute walk from the station, and the interior has a counter seat in the front. We were greeted by the energetic "Kopunka" and then led to a table in the back. The slightly colored tea had a mysterious sweetness to it. Our orders were as follows, and though the portions seemed a bit small, the taste was incredibly delicious: - Khao Man Gai 780 yen - Shrimp Fried Rice 780 yen - Poo Phong Curry 1200 yen Thank you for the meal! I would love to come back to try different dishes next time.

Located a 2-minute walk from Hamadayama Station on the Keio Inokashira Line, "Thai Cuisine Tha Chang" is a restaurant along the Inokashira Line that I visited for the first time during lunchtime in mid-December. The interior of the restaurant has a few counter seats in the front and four table seats in the back room, and I was guided to a table for two. The lunch menu offers a variety of Thai-style curries, noodles, and rice dishes, with a total of 8 options. On this day, I ordered the "Tom Yum Ta-chan Set" (980 yen) which comes with salad, mini rice, and dessert. First, the salad arrived promptly, followed by a short wait before the ramen was served. The noodles in the "Tom Yum Ta-chan" ramen were white rice noodles. The dish included minced meat, fish balls, dried shrimp, Thai-style fried wontons, coriander, and more. I tried the soup first by taking a sip. Despite expecting it to be similar to Tom Yum Kung, the soup did not have the strong lemongrass and galangal flavors typical of Tom Yum Kung, instead offering a rich and moderately spicy soup reminiscent of Thai Sep Lek noodles. I used to frequent a Thai restaurant in Nippori where I enjoyed Sep Lek noodles, but it closed down a few years ago, so I was thrilled to taste a similar flavor after a long time. Lunch at Thai restaurants usually consists of popular dishes like Pad Kra Pao, Khao Man Gai, and Khao Pad, which are often adapted for Japanese tastes. However, it was refreshing to see a restaurant serving authentic Thai flavors and offering menu items beyond the usual staples. The rice noodles had a smooth texture typical of rice noodles, making them easy to slurp. The minced meat added a delicious umami flavor, and the variety of textures from the dried shrimp and fried wontons made the dish enjoyable. I finished every last drop of the soup and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the delicious food.

I heard that a new Thai restaurant opened, so I came to check it out. It's located near Hamadayama Station at Maula, just a short walk away. The staff's Japanese is a bit lacking, so I can't help but expect authentic Thai cuisine. The lunch menu includes various set meals like Khao Man Gai, Gapao, Pad Thai, Green Curry, Tom Yum Kung Ramen, Tom Yum Tar-chan, and Kuay Teow Kai, all priced at 980 yen each. Since it was my first visit, I decided to try the staff's recommended Kuay Teow Kai set! The food arrived surprisingly quickly! The noodles were decent, but overall, I'm not sure if I would want to come back again. I'll try something else next time.
